Crisp sandwich - normal, right?

I LOVE a crisp sandwich. Especially with salt n vinegar crisps. Was thinking I'd love one earlier (but no crisps in the house) and then remembered a friend thinking I was totally bonkers for having crisps in a sandwich.

Anyone else? Or is my friend right and I'm totally bonkers...?!

On that note, any other 'out of the norm' sandwich fillings you all in enjoy?

White morning roll, cheese spread on both surfaces, honey roast ham and co-op Chardonnay vinegar and salt fancy crisps on top. Mmmmmmmm!

I'm full of the cold /cough virus that is decimating the country and most things taste like shite. However, I'd happily give a crisp sandwich a go now, yum yum!

On the subject of different fillings, we had sugar sandwiches when I little. Another thing that is glorious is fruit bread, butter then condensed milk as a filling. Bloody lovely.

In my university town, the best chip shop did a very good chip butty in a toasted pitta.

Sliced along the long edge, stuffed with chips, doused in ketchup and mayonnaise.

Eat chips with fork. When finished, eat saucy pitta.

Voila: no hangover.

We used to have sugar bread - fresh white bread cut from the loaf, thick butter and thick sprinkling of granulated sugar Confused When we visited family in Ireland the toast was always buttered before going under the grill, lovely! I don't know if they still do that there, I'll have to ask one of my cousins

White bread, loads of butter (no substitute for the real thing!) thick ham and tayto cheese and onion
(Prawn cocktail will do in a pinch)

TeaCake5 · 23/02/2017 15:47

crisp sandwich with frazzles is great

hollinhurst84 · 23/02/2017 15:49

Cheese, onion and mayo sandwich with ready salted crisps. Amazing

heartisshattered · 23/02/2017 15:54

I like a tiger stick from Morrisons with walkers Thai sweet chilli and red onion Grin

highinthesky · 23/02/2017 15:55

The only way I would eat ready salted crisps as a child was in a cheese sandwich. Not revisited since but neither am I repulsed by the idea.

redlittlesquirrel · 23/02/2017 15:56

Crisp sandwiches are amazing! I usually put crisps into a sandwich anyway, depending on the filling, but if I'm going for a proper crisp sandwich, it's got to be salt and vinegar crisps and cheese spread on white bread. I had one for the first time in ages at the weekend and it was so good.

Chip butties are great too, not sure how anyone could have not at least had one in their life.

sarebear1983 · 23/02/2017 15:57

My lunch yesterday consisted of a ham and ready salted crisp sarnie….. you just can't get a better sarnie in my humble opinion!

cricketballs · 23/02/2017 16:01

white bread, loads of real butter and bacon crisps is the only proper crisp butty!

Goldenhandshake · 23/02/2017 16:02

Very soft white bread (warburtons farmhouse is a good option), thick butter and walkers salt and vinegar crisps. Best thing ever.

McCoys flame grilled steak crisps in a sandwich is also amazeballs.

Binkybix · 23/02/2017 16:10

Chip sticks and coleslaw!

Sunnysky2016 · 23/02/2017 16:16

Thick white bread, salted butter, Heinz sandwich spread and any flavour crisps.......

applesareredandgreen · 23/02/2017 16:19

Yes to crisp sandwiches - any kind of bread, any flavour crisps, butter or no butter
Yes to cheese and jam sandwiches, and yes to peanut butter and jam but this needs to be 2 pieces of toast put together as sandwich.
Also yes to mashed potato sandwiches - these need salad cream or mayo.
Sorry but how can anyone have reached adulthood without having had chip butties?????

crawlingonallfours · 23/02/2017 16:20

Dairylea with walkers cheese and onion. Mmm.

applesareredandgreen · 23/02/2017 16:22

Heinz sandwich spread - do they still make this? Must have a look in Asda .....

Shadowboy · 23/02/2017 16:22

Crisps are MADE as sandwich fillings. My fave is tuna mayo with salt and vinegar crisps or beef and horseradish with ready salted crisps.

hollyisalovelyname · 23/02/2017 16:24

Crisp sandwich
Food of the Gods.
But the crisps have to be Tayto and the bread white sliced pan.

hollyisalovelyname · 23/02/2017 16:25

Oh
and Irish butter.

SaucyJack · 23/02/2017 16:28

White bread, mayo, Frazzles, lettuce and tomato. Washed down with red Coke.

''Tis the ultimate cure for the hungover vegetarian.

Mulberry72 · 23/02/2017 16:29

Not quite the same but when I was pregnant with DS, I used to lay Frazzles out on a tray (multiple packets) and top each Frazzle with a spoon of coleslaw! I still do it now occasionally Grin

TheFlyingFauxPas · 23/02/2017 16:38

YY @shadowboy I was about to say tuna sandwiches with salt and vinegar crisps Smile
I also used to enjoy a dairylea and ready salted hoolahoop sandwich. Had one recently and something was wrong. Don't know why!
I also like a b q beef hoolahoop in a cupasoup Grin

Willow2016 · 23/02/2017 16:38

Definately food of the gods.

Butter of course!

Chip butties are also awesome with hp sauce.

Baked bean toasties are fab too, cheap and easy. (as are 'fried egg toasties'!)
