Crisp sandwich - normal, right?

itwillbegrandsure · 23/02/2017 14:26

I LOVE a crisp sandwich. Especially with salt n vinegar crisps. Was thinking I'd love one earlier (but no crisps in the house) and then remembered a friend thinking I was totally bonkers for having crisps in a sandwich.

Anyone else? Or is my friend right and I'm totally bonkers...?!

On that note, any other 'out of the norm' sandwich fillings you all in enjoy?

I have always loved crisp sarnies but recently hit on a variation - smoked cheese, beetroot and plain crisps - food of the gods.

venusinscorpio · 23/02/2017 16:48

Yes they still make Heinz sandwich spread, I bought some the other day out of nostalgia! It's great with cheese and ready salted crisps in a white bread roll.

cushioncovers · 23/02/2017 16:48

Every sandwich, irrespective of filling, is improved with the addition of Crisps

I agree

seagazer · 23/02/2017 16:57

Cheese and onion with ham. Dh likes cabbage butties. Shock

notangelinajolie · 23/02/2017 16:57

Crisp baps are the best. Lunch times at school we would buy a buttered barm and a bag of s&v crisps from the shop down the road and sit eating them on the hill at the back of school. boys playing rugby in the field below added entertainment Heaven.

Longdistance · 23/02/2017 17:01

Fish finger butties with a fried egg inside 😋

WritingHome · 23/02/2017 17:04

Oh yes I love a crisp sandwich - cheap white sliced pan very fresh, heavily buttered with real butter, tayto cheese & onion crisps mmmmmmmmm

I have one about once a year or so!

I am also very fond of same white bread, same butter, heavily loaded with very salty & vinegary chipper chips

Or same white bread, same butter with good raspberry jam - could easily eat 4 slices of this but don't let myself v often

I blame a 70's/ 80's upbringing!

MusicToMyEars800 · 23/02/2017 17:09

MrsHathaway now you are talking my language!! that is one of my favourite sandwich fillings, the salt and vinegar crisps have to be punchy strong flavour though.

MusicToMyEars800 · 23/02/2017 17:11

another one of my favs is a slice of buttered bread topped with plain doritos top with grated cheese and put under the grill until the cheese melts then add the other slice of bread.... (salivating) sarnie heaven!

DaisyQueen · 23/02/2017 17:13

Cheese and onion crisps in buttered white bread with mayo. Can't argue with delicious-ness

EsmeeMerlin · 23/02/2017 17:14

I love crisps in my sandwich now and again. I like ham and cheese and onion crisps. Has to be white bread as well.

itwillbegrandsure · 23/02/2017 18:02

I am now desperate for a crisp sambo!

It's funny how so many of you specified white bread as to me that's also a given!

@hollyisalovelyname & @RiversrunWoodville - re: reference to Tayto, you've got to be fellow Irish cailíns?! Smile
I so very rarely come across anywhere that sells Tayto anymore (Tesco near me stopped). Sad times.

I had a roast beef and ready salted crisps sandwich for lunch today.

My ultimate guilty pleasure though is a tub of Philadelphia and just scooping it out with BBQ hula hoops

minionsrule · 23/02/2017 19:00

I thought it was just me all this time. I don't do butter though but has to be Walkers Cheese and Onion on White (very fresh) Warburtons toastie - not the crust though (I save that for toast)

RiversrunWoodville · 23/02/2017 20:35

@itwillbegrandsure guilty Grin Northern Ireland farmer

anyoldname76 · 23/02/2017 20:38

my favourite is a corned beef with cheese and onion crisp sandwich

Iwantamarshmallow · 23/02/2017 21:52

Crisp sandwiches are ok but what I really love is a Popcorn Sandwich .... It's amazing try it.

SuperBeagle · 23/02/2017 22:00

I don't like it... But DH does this often and it shits me when he pinches all of the best salt and vinegar chips from the bag, leaving me with the dregs.

I'm a fan of a hot chip sandwich, personally. In fact, I think I've just decided we'll be having fish and chips for dinner tonight.

DesolateWaist · 23/02/2017 22:00

Perfectly normal.
Only a few weeks ago I was yacking to a few parents at nursery about the joys of a crisp sandwiches as we blissfully ignored the children..............I was the teacher.

SuperFlyHigh · 23/02/2017 22:01

I don't often have one but when I do I remember how nice it is.

Completely unrelated but have noticed eg when I eat a kit Kat and then plain crisps (eg hula hoops plain) not together but one after the other it tastes nice. yes I'm weird!

White bread, salty crisps, ham, cheese and butter. So good.

venusinscorpio · 23/02/2017 22:06

I had a chip butty for tea, partly inspired by this thread. On soft white bread with lots and lots of real butter.

redheadlady · 23/02/2017 22:07

Love a crisp sandwich! White bread, plenty of butter and definitely up for a bit of cheese in there too! Also been partial to a pot noodle sandwich in my time.... I'm sure some will say it's pure filth but it's sooo good!

venusinscorpio · 23/02/2017 22:14

Egg mayo is great with salty crisps or those fancy ones with black pepper.
