Trump can't serve more than two terms? Let's hope he accepts that eh?

Trump and his administration are everybody's business, what they do potentially affects the whole world.

I agree with pp, Trump, Brexit, the rise of the rights across Europe, all part of the same moment/movement.

CussingQuim · 21/02/2017 07:37

Trump's team ignoring journalists purposefully says the Washington Post.

(Saw this on the attached unpleasant pro-Trump tweet, retweeted by one of the accounts Trump follows)

AndHoldTheBun · 21/02/2017 07:37

A month has been a LONG time, can you imagine 8 years?!

AndHoldTheBun · 21/02/2017 07:40

Merry, I'd say Trump is a product of that movement, not the cause of it (lol, not giving him the credit for that!).

merrymouse · 21/02/2017 07:48

I agree Bun, but I think he is very happy to take credit.

What I was thinking too.

GingerIvy · 21/02/2017 08:07

The thing we need to remember about Ivanka Trump is that she has no actual position in this government. She is not an official. She is nothing more than the president's daughter, however much she involves herself. Any statement she makes is not an official statement of any kind.

And sadly, I suspect she is cut of the same cloth as her father, she just hides it better. Her businesses have had H&S issues and human rights issues, from what I've read, and she has been involved in shady business dealings right along side her brothers and her father. And from what I've seen about her "Jewish conversion," reports are that she is very strict in some instances but ignores other rules of the religion. I think, like her father, she likes to choose what rules apply to her. I think she is more careful about her public image - but still makes some incredible blunders that show you where her thought processes are.

woman12345 · 21/02/2017 08:07

Trump, Brexit and Le Pen are linked, but the irony is they are being propelled by such a small number of rich white men.

What do women have to do to have their words printed in newspapers? Shame on the Guardian, shame, Tulip Suddiq was great.

GingerIvy · 21/02/2017 08:09

Also, her husband (Kushner) is eyebrow deep in all the Russian stuff (as is she from what I've seen). The only people I would say are remotely removed from the swamp are the two youngest children - Barron and Tiffany. Barron because he is too young and Tiffany because she's been estranged from them most of her life and raised by her mother.

Trump cant serve more than 2 terms. How about we focus on our own issues

What happens in America affects us all..Aside from the obvious propaganda tool he is giving to ISIS, he is helping develop racism and enable bigots.

I think it must be hard for people to understand this IF they haven't been affected by bigotry - and ALL the repercussions of that.

Yes, there are people who aren't affected personally who do get it.
Yes, there are people who will be affected by it but still felt left behind so voted for Trump.

But there are many people who are affected by bigotry who are concerned about Trump and the rise of the influence of people who are bigoted.

It can't have been a coincedence that the overwhelming amount of MPs who spoke in favour of Trump's State visit and who seemed not to have any concern over things he's done were white males.

Erdogun was elected to serve normal terms, he's changed law to stay in power indefinitely. www.politico.eu/article/recep-tayyip-erdogan-pursues-his-plan-for-even-greater-power-turkish-president-akp/
Turkey was an equal rights for women, European style country in the 1920s under Kemal Ataturk.

Trump was democratically elected. We had no say in his election. Not our country, not our decision to make and not any of our business.

*Trump cant serve more than 2 terms. How about we focus on our own issues.

As an American living in the UK, I can point out that

  1. I did have a say in the election, but my vote was not for Trump.
  2. It IS my country, and it IS my business.
  3. 2 TERMS?? He's caused this much chaos in a month. 8 years is an eternity when he is ruining lives NOW.

How about we focus on our own issues?

Who the hell do you think you are?? Did you even stop to consider that actually a number of us on this thread actually ARE American, therefore this directly affects us. Some are not American, but have family and/or friends in America, therefore it affects them.

Most of us are politically aware enough to realise that when one country that the UK is looking at dealing with is literally dismantling their government and Constitution before our very eyes that it affects ALL of us at some point.

The Independent mentions Caroline Lucas

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/donald-trump-state-visit-mps-us-president-cancel-westminster-hall-flynn-a7590621.html

Telegraph - a short article but it mentions Dianne Abbot

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/02/20/thousands-protest-donald-trumps-state-visit/

And as for the Daily Mail

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4243736/Scrapping-Trump-visit-hurt-Britain-help-Putin.html

ONLY quotes the Conservative male supporters - whereas everyone else was described as opposing MPs

Personally, I care, particularly about how present shitstorms in UK, US, France are affecting fellow mothers and their children. As the women's marches showed, we care about each other, wherever we are.

Lweji · 21/02/2017 08:21

What do women have to do to have their words printed in newspapers?

That's easy. They just need to... oh, wait, you said words!

Probably, start a thread on MN. That will give you DM print space. Or is it just the site?
Or act like a major cunt. That covers Katie Hopkins.
There's the Queen and the PM.

woman12345 · 21/02/2017 08:23

ami it's been on its way for a while now, noted on other threads, but looks like the handmaid's tale is the attempted normal now. Those papers have all made dubious sorts of editorial choices on reporting gender. This thread is the media now Grin I'm going to email support to the labour women MPs today.

Lweji · 21/02/2017 08:24

How about we focus on our own issues?

In fact, think where the last financial crisis started, with sub-prime mortgages, and then let me know how much we, in Europe, have nothing to do with the US.

amispartacus · 21/02/2017 08:30

It is just so obvious when you watch a debate. If you got a child to write a report on that debate, you'd probable get them quoting all MPs and trying to get a flavour of what happened.

Then - get a more cynical exercise: watch the debate and report what happened so it appeals to your readers and suits your agenda.

Naming the Conservative male MPs and describing the opposition as a 'opposing MPs' - in other words - 'them', a mass is pure and simple othering.

I would think that would make a great article. But the other papers are just as bad.

How many political commentators or journalists are women? Don't have time now, but that would be an interesting analysis too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2017 08:37

We have never tried to create a 'special relationship' with those leaders. The US is somewhere that very many go on holiday to, have business with. It used to be a pretty reasonable country, of course we are going to stand up and say that we don't want it to go down the route that other countries are in. When we have British school teachers being removed from planes while taking pupils on a school trip, then yes we are going to stand up and protest.

Lweji · 21/02/2017 08:39

Actually, quick Google and a bit older now, but
www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-politics/9787362/Where-have-all-the-women-political-journalists-gone.html

GingerIvy · 21/02/2017 08:43

Lweji - I follow a few journalists on twitter that are women - I actually found them from the feeds of male journalists that highly recommended these women for good info.
