To dare speak about Vaxxed on MN?

thegoodfight · 20/02/2017 14:37

NC for this but a regular.

So I've just watched the documentary Vaxxed. I know how vaccine threads unfold on MN, so I'm ready to be told IABU however I feel like everyone should see this whatever your views - it's about the cover up around studies into autism and MMR

There is an admission from a CDC insider that he worked on the study and hid data which proved a link (a strong an quite frankly astounding one) and the data was sent to an external biologist who saw it for himself. There are first hand accounts from parents, scientists, doctors and politicians. The CDC haven't denied anything or called their lawyers despite it being an allegation of the biggest medical fraud ever (not exact words but something along those lines)

I just can't believe it's not been in the news! AIBU to ask if anyone else is planning to watch it??

OP posts:

That is bumbleymummy's modus operandi. She smarms around, dropping hints, insinuating stuff, adding to people's uncertanty and anxiety. Unsettling people. I've seen it often before. The Uriah Heap of the anti-vaxx lobby.

User1483300717 · 20/02/2017 17:35

Ourblanch- the debate it about MMR causing autism. So wouldn't everyone who's had the MMR cause autism?
Somebody else answerd who understood the question anyway.

FineLookingHighHorse · 20/02/2017 17:36

Yes OP I'm planning on watching it.

why wouldn't I?

I'm not going to become an anti vaxxer unless the evidence contained within the documentary is unequivocally compelling. I'm not going to absorb stupidity by osmosis from simply watching the thing.

Yes, lets see what it has to say.

Why not?

I'm not getting the vehement opposition to watching it.
Are people afraid to give credence to it?

In any case there's always been a very good reason for a cover up IMO.

Litigation.

Dawndonnaagain · 20/02/2017 17:37

bumbleymummy Just put your evidence up for once.
Oh, you haven't got any. Okay let's start with this:
Why was Wakefield struck off?

Dawndonnaagain · 20/02/2017 17:38

Finelooking I've seen it. It's nonsense.

bumbleymummy · 20/02/2017 17:39

Applebite, I don't really care about Wakefield tbh. I think it's worth knowing that the paper didn't say MMR causes autism though. That's not a hint about anything.

Verbena37 · 20/02/2017 17:40

Fayeandme I'm not going to discuss my thoughts on MMR vaccine links to ASD but your posts are quite unfeeling.

As a parent of a high functioning ASD DS, I'm pretty sure you're not a parent of an ASD child....otherwise you wouldn't be saying you'd rather risk autism.

Just last night, having spent 6 hours struggling to get DS to do a 30 min bit of homework and have him ask me to kill him to get rid of his autism, I'm pretty sure your comments are a bit heartless.

bumbleymummy · 20/02/2017 17:41

Evidence for what dawn? I've just posted my 'evidence' that the paper didn't say MMR causes autism - the paper itself.

OurBlanche · 20/02/2017 17:41

Sorry User I didn't follow your thread Glad someone else did Smile

helpimitchy · 20/02/2017 17:42

Why are some people so anti vaccination? Do they know what happened to people who contracted polio and smallpox? How about diphtheria?

OurBlanche · 20/02/2017 17:42

You could answer my "Why quibble" question!

scampimom · 20/02/2017 17:43

I think my opposition to watching it is vehement because it's lending a kind of credence to this evil self-serving fiction, and placing it on an equal footing with proper evidence. It's like when TV or radio programmes have an expert on one side and a ranting lunatic on the other "for balance". It's not balanced, it's hopelessly lopsided!

For the single vaccines, what I was getting at is that the child is still at risk of contracting the diseases they are not yet vaccinated against while they wait for those injections.

And if people want to pay over the odds for a less effective and not-proven-to-be-any-safer option, then OK it's hard to argue that they shouldn't throw their money away spend their money how they like, but there's just no need for it, and, I suspect, precisely what Wakefield wanted/was paid to persuade people to do in the first place

MrsDustyBusty · 20/02/2017 17:44

i think its fine to have a triple vaccine like MMR but if you want single vaccines you should be able to do that too. its about choice and making you feel comfortable with what your doing. I'm sure the rate of coverage would go up if they offered single vaccines.

And then what? Give space for the loonbags to say that they always knew the single vaccine was dangerous and the public was being lied to, otherwise it wouldn't be allowed with then the move to the clear dangers of doing separate vaccinations?

Do you really think there's any satisfying these people?

lljkk · 20/02/2017 17:45

Has everyone seen the news stories about brain scans revealing autism risk in babies? Fascinating. I'd like that line of work to put the vaccine-autism-debate to bed.... or would be fine too, if it established that these kids were the ones to protect from vaccines. Either way, looks like progress.

I guess i have weak BS tolerance. I love different ideas & perspectives, but if people are firmly saying a+c = e, I need a line of solid evidence, not just lots of sensational words thrown around.

helpimitchy · 20/02/2017 17:45

Verbena my youngest son has asd. We've had to withdraw him from school due to bullying. Both his and my life are very difficult, but we wouldn't rather not exist. It's other people who cause difficulties for us.

Both my dcs have had the MMR. I did it without hesitation and I'd do it again if necessary.

Dawndonnaagain · 20/02/2017 17:48

Ahh, Bumbley, you just came on the thread to state that then, is that right? You didn't come on to defend Wakefield or to say that you're an anti vaxxer? Just trying to make things clear because it looks as though you're trying to defend Wakefield and one would rather wonder why.

Verbena37 · 20/02/2017 17:49

I might not saying that imitchy.....I just thought fayeandmes comments were worded rather thoughtlessly.

bumbleymummy · 20/02/2017 17:49

Lljkk, but some people believe that the vaccine triggered their child's regression. So they were perhaps genetically predisposed to developing it but the vaccine was the trigger. I'm not sure that the findings from that study would put that idea to bed.

noblegiraffe · 20/02/2017 17:50

The NHS hasn't got cash to slosh around on paranoid parents. Three separate vaccines are a) not available and b) way more expensive. If they were offered then people would see it as evidence that there was a problem with the MMR. 'Oh, if it's fine then why offer the option, hmmm?'.

OurBlanche · 20/02/2017 17:50

Bertrand I see what you mean... sinuous! Grin

Charlieismydarlin · 20/02/2017 17:51

I don't know what to think.

But like everything contentious - be it immigration or Brexit or whatever - we must not shut down debate.

I am not one of these people that thinks science has all the answers or is closed and finished. I do question the impact on a developing immune system of a triple live vaccine.

I have long wondered whether the huge increase in food allergies is related to the MMR or just the sheer number of vaccines given now. Who knows?

I welcome all open and sensible debate. There are too many parents who swear blind their child was damaged by vaccines and we must respect their views

FineLookingHighHorse · 20/02/2017 17:53

Yes Charlie

My sentiments precisely.

bumbleymummy · 20/02/2017 17:55

Dawn, You can read my posts - they say what they say. I'm not defending Wakefield. I posted because a few people had referenced the paper and what they thought it had said. You yourself mistakenly said that the 12 children who were studied were from his son's birthday party. People think a lot of things about the paper without having actually read it. It's like Chinese whispers at this stage.

I haven't seen this film but I wouldn't have a problem watching it. I watch Donald Trump's speeches - not because I like him or believe anything he says but because I like to know what he actually said rather than reading other people's interpretations of it.

Dawndonnaagain · 20/02/2017 17:55

Lljkk, but some people believe that the vaccine triggered their child's regression.

Despite the fact that there is no scientific evidence for this whatsoever.

CloudPerson · 20/02/2017 17:56

Verbana, I've been there with my ds, it's horrible, but that's not autism that's the problem, it's the school's rigid approach to homework if they're not making allowances when he finds it so distressing. 6 hours over homework is barbaric.
We've ended up taking ds2 out of school because of school's attitude. They simply didn't care, didn't want to support him, and chose not to understand. Which echoes many autistic people"s experiences with society. It's shit!
