To any smokers out there, have you noticed any difference in the cigarettes in the new packaging to the old packets?

Paddy that's one of the saddest stories I've ever heard on here.

They are cunts and I hate that word Angry

I'm so sorry Flowers

paddyplaistow · 20/02/2017 23:35

Thanks, Unborn. My faith in human nature (as in people being basically good) has been dented.
But - DH has no idea.
They get no more money from us. I still buy the paper - but he has the correct money. No choice, and DH loves going to the shop to see his "friends". Heartbreaking.
Cunts indeed (hate it too)
No more cig money, Better in my pocket.
My post scattato. Dh wittering all the time hard to concentrate.
Apologies for hijacking folks.
As we were ...

thoughts scattered. ye gods (puff puff)

MountainDweller · 21/02/2017 00:08

My friend smokes. We live in an eu country which borders Switzerland. The cigarettes you buy in Switzerland are in the old style packets. So only the EU one kill you, right? Hmm

Also lots of the packets say smoking can make you infertile. My friend is 65. Bit late for that.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 21/02/2017 07:31

Paddy I would want to avenge them . Really ! Can you do a sting and then name and shame them , video them (without your husband knowing ) - even a visit from the local police should shit them .
Ugh in your behalf

TheSnowFairy · 21/02/2017 09:16

paddy I like scattato Grin

Crazyvaperlady · 21/02/2017 11:37

I vape... and the TPD is absolutely ridiculous for us vapers! Smokers have absolutely got the fat end of the deal IMO

UnbornMortificado · 21/02/2017 12:06

Crazy what's the TPD?

gamerchick · 21/02/2017 12:46

So basically... stockpile.

UnbornMortificado · 21/02/2017 12:47

Oh that's really shit. I was looking into vaping but it's not advised in pregnancy so I just did the patches.

You would of through the government would be backing vaping.

gamerchick · 21/02/2017 12:53

Why would they? It's not as if they get a chunk of the money they do fags. Well not yet they don't.

UnbornMortificado · 21/02/2017 12:58

Gamer I was just thinking the saving the NHS money side of things, never thought of it that way.

I see your point.

gamerchick · 21/02/2017 13:02

Ah but you don't think like a Tory... which is a good thing Grin

Gottagetmoving · 21/02/2017 13:05

I thought this thread was about the cigarettes in new packets but as usual has turned into 'You will get cancer' saga.

Since brands have gone to plain black packs,..some have reduced the size of the cigarettes. They have taken the opportunity to rip people off.

gamerchick · 21/02/2017 13:06

I remember reading when it got to the million mark of people quitting/switching to vaping the government started to get a bit twitchy at the hole in the treasury that used to be generated by smoking. All this was predicted back then. Money gets people shifting.

imjessie · 21/02/2017 13:08

I just googled , shocking images but then I guess that's their objective .. I hate smoking it's so grim but luckily I never started as a youngster . As said before lots of things can kill you!!

splendide · 21/02/2017 13:13

I don't understand your point gamerchick - the government is doing quite a lot to reduce smoking, including this packaging.

Gowgirl · 21/02/2017 13:27

The government is losing revenue when people switch to vaping. What is hard to understand about that?

PencilsInSpace · 21/02/2017 13:28

TPD is EU regulation. There is evidence of lobbying by pharma companies during the negotiation of the ecig rules. Quite a few scientists signed a letter complaining to the EU about the misuse of their research.

It's taken a long while to get UK public health to understand what's going on with vaping and to stop seeing it as another threat. They get it now but it all happened a bit too late for the TPD.

splendide · 21/02/2017 13:41

I am saying they don't seem in any other way to be trying to stop people cut down on smoking (quite the opposite) - why would they particularly care about vaping?

PencilsInSpace · 21/02/2017 14:05

For a long time public health thought vaping was a Big Tobacco plot, splendide. This is a great read from a couple of years ago. We've come a long way since then but as I said, too late for the TPD.
