To any smokers out there, have you noticed any difference in the cigarettes in the new packaging to the old packets?

Smokers are a friendly bunch.

Live and let live.

Gowgirl · 19/02/2017 18:56

Ahh, its been a while! gamer hi thereGrin,
See we have a tutor already nods to skerry
are we all being round up and shot yet for the sake of the children?

UnbornMortificado · 19/02/2017 19:05

Pidgey it's rude. You wouldn't go up to someone in public and say that for fear of a (probably deserved) smack.

I'm not even a smoker anymore and I still hate the rudeness.

averylongtimeago · 19/02/2017 19:06

I am not a smug anti smoker. I watched my darling mum die of smoking related illness. As a child I frequently had to nurse her when her emphysema was bad. Her health was ruined by smoking, yet her addiction prevented her from quitting.
So I hate smoking, I don't want to see it, or smell it.
I don't hate people who smoke, just wish they didn't.

gamerchick · 19/02/2017 19:08

It has Gowgirl we didn't even have to wait until the spring 'we want to eat outside but vile smokers are there' threads Grin

Graphista · 19/02/2017 19:09

Are non smokers not allowed to post here then?

As for revenue - smoking and alcohol abuse cost more than is raised in revenue, that myth was debunked some time ago I believe.

ProudBadMum · 19/02/2017 19:10

Oh god yes the outside thing. We are fine in winter when they don't want to be there though..

My nanna smoked over 20 a day? You know what killed her? Falling down the stairs...

Probably on her way for the cig though so hmm

Susiesoap7 · 19/02/2017 19:11

They taste different or mine do, they are stronger. I asked the newsagent and he told there isn't the demand for tobacco anymore so they are putting old crap in them!!

My issue was someone directly telling another poster they stink.

I'm not the thread police at all and everyone is entitled to an opinion, I just think it's easy enough to put your point of view across without personal insults.

Gowgirl · 19/02/2017 19:13

It was rather warm today though....maybe this is the warm up.....Wink

Non smokers always post on these threads, they are always welcomed because we are a very friendly bunchgrabs fag and giant wooden spoon

ProudBadMum · 19/02/2017 19:17

I try an e-cig and it was ok but then I went out on the piss and proper cig was needed.

I smoke menthol now as a way of stopping slowly. I like to think I smell like toothpaste Wink

Understood, the habit is disgusting not the addicts.

Curious though, I understand to a degree my parents and grandparents STARTING smoking as the dangers then were either not known or in dispute

Is it ok to ask - those of you that STARTED after it was clearly known, why?

As well as the asthma I'm quite risk averse health wise and don't like the smell so it's never appealed to me, even at school when there was peer pressure.

expatinscotland · 19/02/2017 19:22

Oh, yy, the pub gardens in Summer brigade. 'All the smokers were there.' No, shit, they're there all year.

Andrewofgg · 19/02/2017 19:24

FFS, if the government cared that much, they'd ban it, but all that lovely tax revenue.

Or perhaps governments, even the less competent and desirable, have enough insight into the Art of the Possible to know that banning tobacco would be like Prohibition, which has never worked anywhere and never will.

Graphista · 19/02/2017 19:25

Pidgey

A I'm allowed an opinion and to post it (within guidelines)

B I'm also entitled to the same respect re personal insults, I haven't insulted anyone and I haven't been sanctimonious

Saucery · 19/02/2017 19:27

It's a really interesting question, Graphista and one I asked myself quite a lot when I smoked. Didn't start until I was 22, ffs. Never even tried it before then as my parents smoked until I was 10 and I saw first hand how much healthier they were when they did. They thought, rightly, I was Fucking stupid to start smoking.
There's a kind of disconnect you have as a smoker, particularly a younger one. You think you'll give up before it has any health impact, you always think you are not going to be one of the statistics and I can't see grim photos on packaging bursting that bubble.

Saucery · 19/02/2017 19:28

*that should of course, say how much healthier my parents were when they gave up!

UnbornMortificado · 19/02/2017 19:28

Graphista I don't know, I've used it as a crutch I think. I've had bi-polar since I was a teen, I don't drink, take drugs or binge on food anymore.

I don't know if there is any truth to that "addictive personality" saying but I seem to develop bad habits incredibly easy.

Graphista · 19/02/2017 19:29

Saucery thanks for your response, I get the cognitive dissonance, but what actually attracted you to smoking? After all it's far less glamorised now isn't it?

UnbornMortificado · 19/02/2017 19:30

Proud I'm sure you smell foremost of rum, I wouldn't worry too much Wink

Graphista · 19/02/2017 19:31

Unborn thanks another interesting answer

I come from a family of addicts (tobacco/alcohol/drugs/gambling/
Food) and am very wary of developing addiction myself as I (in some aspects) take after that side.

I also have mh issues.

Saucery · 19/02/2017 19:34

I can pinpoint the exact night I started, out with a friend. It just seemed....cool. Plus I could smoke at work then (1990 ish) and cigarettes were cheap. So cheap, in fact, that to hide the fact I smoked I threw almost full packets away on my way home.

UnbornMortificado · 19/02/2017 19:36

Graph I do the same to a certain degree, I've never really drank that much as I like too much.

I've kept away from illegal drugs but I've ended up with a diazepam and a codeine problem in the past.

The diazepam problem put me in a coma (I should really be dead) compared to that I (wrongly) see fags as harmless.

Gowgirl · 19/02/2017 19:37

It was cool when I was 14, and cheap, and everyone smoked especially at work! Yep we had the standard bad for you lectures at school, but also a smoking shed Grin
Nowdays I like it!
