New packaging on cigarettes

To any smokers out there, have you noticed any difference in the cigarettes in the new packaging to the old packets?

No more 12.5g or even 25g pouches of tobacco anymore.
So you have to buy more, don't anyone kid themselves this is to make it less viable.
The 20 cigarette packets just mean kids are going without dinners as they have to buy a full packet now.
They used to be able to buy 10 at a time which still left them dinner money.

Fivetoomany · 19/02/2017 18:02

Skerry absolutely no need for the attack on smokers. You should be ashamed!!Angry

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 19/02/2017 18:03

skerrywind

Smokers- do you want your kids to smoke?

I've told all 3 of my DC from a young age
"When you're older you can dye your hair any colour you want, get a tattoo, smoke, peirce your nipples, whatever floats your boat...just remember this; NEVER touch drugs, ALWAYS use a condom and ALWAYS respect others."

I've brought my kids up to have minds of their own.

Fivetoomany · 19/02/2017 18:04

Proud, I'm a smoker and I'm certainly friendly!Grin

ProudBadMum · 19/02/2017 18:04

gilly I remember been in school smoking Richmond. £2.50. Put 50p in each for that and a £1 towards alcohol and we had a right night Grin

Nowadays no way can kids afford it

WhatsGoingOnEh · 19/02/2017 18:05

I quit last May because I had to have a tooth removed (because of smoking), and I couldn't smoke for 72 hours afterwards. So I decided to stop altogether. I'm now hooked on the Nicorette quick mist spray, have piled on 2 stone (!!!!) and don't feel any healthier at all.

BUT... I smell so much better. It's only since I stopped smoking that I really realise how awful it smells.

ProudBadMum · 19/02/2017 18:05

Five I made a lot of friends outside pubs from just asking someone for a light

missbishi · 19/02/2017 18:06

My cigs have the foetus made of fag ash in the ashtray. For crying out loud!

Massive well done to the quitters Flowers

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 19/02/2017 18:07

It's a waste of money and I hate what it does to my lungs

But I am addicted - I smoke 5 a day

Even with that I feel the health damage

Anyway ! Cheery !

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 19/02/2017 18:07

The dying man looks so
Much like
My dad when he was dying - I won't buy that pack any more

specialsubject · 19/02/2017 18:09

As long as smokers do it downwind of me and pick up the litter, then good for them for the taxes. At least they aren't spewing in gutters and clogging up a and e.

minionsrule · 19/02/2017 18:11

I hate the one with the woman coughing up blood onto a handkerchief - makes me want to vomit just looking at it - maybe I should buy some white labels to stick over the pics

CakeNinja · 19/02/2017 18:15

I gave up 5 months ago, switching to an ecig.
I weigh a stone more than I did, have more money, smell nicer and feel absolutely no bloody different.
Gave up because I got a new job working with children and was taking me hours to wash/dry and straighten my hair daily so I didn't stink around them.
I feel angry for giving up smoking because I feel the same but fatter Angry
And yes, I'm sure it's better to be fat than a smoker, but I'm still pissed off.

Destinysdaughter · 19/02/2017 18:18

I've been vaping for over a year now. So much cheaper and my health has massively improved! Really worth giving it a go, if you can't give up. I know I couldn't.

PidgeyfinderGeneral · 19/02/2017 18:21

The nannying around smoking infuriates me. FFS, if the government cared that much, they'd ban it, but all that lovely tax revenue. Hypocritical in the extreme. I'm considering going back to rollies.

britbat23 · 19/02/2017 18:22

Hurrah for vile smokers poisoning the air that my children breathe - apparently they're super friendly

RebelRogue · 19/02/2017 18:27

Bat we are...once u get past the vile thing GrinGrin

WashBasketsAreUs · 19/02/2017 18:27

It's a PITA if you work somewhere that sells cigarettes now they've changed the packaging. Previously we've found them easily by colour/pattern etc, nightmare now they're all the same.
I had a particularly unpleasant virus, still ongoing 4 weeks later and I stopped just over a week ago as it was making me worse and tasted foul.

youokayhun · 19/02/2017 18:28

I think changing packets was a waste of time, same goes for hiding them away behind a screen - what blind bit of a difference does it make? I smoke, I wish I didn't but I can't even bring myself to try giving up yet. I would rather my kids didn't smoke but they will do as they please when they're older and unfortunately I'll have no say in it. I do actually think they taste different since the change though but that may just be me.

UnbornMortificado · 19/02/2017 18:35

The smoking vitriol is something else on here.

I'd rather stink (or stunk I'm pg) then be fucking rude.

Graphista · 19/02/2017 18:38

Non smoker here never smoked, grew up with both parents heavy smokers. Dad now has emphysema and on oxygen and mum almost constant recurrent chest infections. Dad had to quit once on the oxygen mum has just quit again but I'm sceptical.

I think uk and other govts doing this kinda stuff are aiming to phase it out of use rather than ban, if they banned I think there'd be riots and a massive increase in organised crime around tobacco products.

Hope they succeed, awful habit that endangers directly not only the smoker but those close to them (my siblings and I all have asthma and had repeated chest infections throughout childhood, my sisters also had cancer twice she's under 40).

However, I also think our poor attitude to alcohol needs to be addressed.

I live in Scotland where special offers on booze are restricted, as are hours when shops can sell and where it can be drunk (not in public areas or on public transport). People don't realise or accept the damage it can do if abused.

But maybe govt tackling uk from a 'one addiction at a time' perspective ?

Birdsgottaf1y · 19/02/2017 18:42

I'm very anti-smoking, I grew up in the 70's.

However I think that the 'behind shutters' thing is ridiculous. Last time I was in the Offy, the Woman was restocking, so it was open.

It didn't tempt me to start. Two of my DDs smoke and I hate seeing the packets. They've watched various members of our family, including their Dad die of lung/cancer, a picture isn't going to make a difference.

PidgeyfinderGeneral · 19/02/2017 18:43

unborn Yes, the smug, rude anti-smoking brigade that leap on every single thread about smoking to tell us how disgusting they find us and won't someone think of the children. As if that's going to make us all give up on the spot. Perhaps if they find smoking soooo vile, they should avoid threads about smoking.

Birdsgottaf1y · 19/02/2017 18:43

""However, I also think our poor attitude to alcohol needs to be addressed. ""

See, I worry about how we are going to run the country, without the revenue.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/02/2017 18:47

You always meet the friendliest people in smoking areas.
