To any smokers out there, have you noticed any difference in the cigarettes in the new packaging to the old packets?

No, still nothing to do with you. You can't tell people how to live their lives.

SuperBeagle · 20/02/2017 07:48

This has been in place in Australia for ages now. Statistically, it's working. Smoking rates continue to be on the decrease (helped by massive price hikes and huge taxes).

But I don't smoke, so no firsthand experience.

SleepFreeZone · 20/02/2017 08:10

I was in the play area on the outskirts of a large town last week and a group of tweens walked past each with a cigarette in hand. It looked bloody awful and all I could think was how their parents would feel if they could see them 😁

SleepFreeZone · 20/02/2017 08:12

Just to add I started smoking at about 15 because I decided it was cool and it was an act of rebellion. It went hand in hand with getting drunk and getting a tattoo 🙄

I gave up in my early twenties thankfully and now my main act of rebellion is locking myself in the toilet to take a dump In private (often with the kids desperately trying to get to me 😩)

expatinscotland · 20/02/2017 08:18

Oh, skerry is on a roll here! It/he/she is currently on a thread started by a woman who had a double mastectomy due to cancer expounding on why breastfeeding is so vital - the poor woman is finding it difficult dealing with comments from HCPs asking why she isn't breastfeeding. It's a real font of fucking tact and sensitivity, skerry.

Nospringflower · 20/02/2017 08:28

I just got sent this picture - my partner was buying them for someone! It is horrible!

UnbornMortificado · 20/02/2017 09:46

WTF, she can't see the obvious problem with that?

ProudBadMum · 20/02/2017 10:08

skerry is a troll no doubt.

Gowgirl · 20/02/2017 10:13

You always get one, I'm off out to hang the washinghave a ciggieGrin, double shite parenting I've parked the dcs in front of octanUauts to do so Grin

FourToTheFloor · 20/02/2017 10:33

Anything that makes it less attractive to smoke is a good thing. Each to their own and I don't care if you smoke, I just pity you as I smoked in my teens and gave up in early 20s and it is so much better being a non smoker.

Only thing that annoys me is getting in a lift after smokers and the air is rancid.

ProudBadMum · 20/02/2017 10:36

We could all share things that have happened to family and friends.

My Aunt died from lung, throat and mouth cancer at 42. She didn't smoke and was tee-total

If you are going to get cancer you are going to get it no matter what you do. Sausages give you it apparently now Hmm

Life's too short to worry. I like a cig and a rum. I could quit then get hit by a bus.

Duckyneedsaclean · 20/02/2017 10:54

I quit a year ago. If I was still smoking now i'd probably get a cigarette case. It'd add to the whole experience I reckon.

BlurryFace · 20/02/2017 11:18

We have packs with gross tumoury pics/pics of the sperm we are murdering!!!!!! over here (Channel Islands) and it's not made any effect on the smokers I know, including one whose parent died of a "smoker's cancer" and myself.

I don't think when people start at 14-18 they think "what if I can't give up when I'm in my fifties and have lung disease?" I know I didn't.

I like smoking. I like stumbling outside with the other smokers on a night out instead of sitting inside twiddling my thumbs. I like the taste of tobacco. I like the little head rush if it's been a while since my last ciggy. I like the excuse to sit outside for five by myself or with only my brother when visiting my large, loud family.

I want to quit permanently one day, have done several times for periods of 6 months to a year cold turkey. I just love smoking so damn much.

FourToTheFloor · 20/02/2017 12:20

You don't love it or you wouldn't have tried to quit. You're an addict that's all.

And when I'm out drinking with friends I hardly sit around twiddling my thumbs if I'm not smoking Hmm

Susiesoap7 · 20/02/2017 12:39

Just wanted to say they taste different they are stronger!

BlurryFace · 20/02/2017 15:46

FourToTheFloor, yes I absolutely do love smoking, and I'm an addict - it's both. I'm young enough that I haven't felt any nasty effects as of yet, I have tried to quit because I know in the long term it could kill me and to save money.

When I've been off the fags, if everyone else had gone to smoke I would have to sit inside and wait for them to come back, because otherwise I would crack and bum a ciggy because I missed smoking. I'm not suggesting that all non smokers sit twiddling their thumbs, way to read into shit.Hmm

RebelRogue · 20/02/2017 15:59

Just like with many other things if you hate smoking, don't smoke. Simples.

P.s. Best argument to stop smoking was that it "improves sex life". He did get divorced a few year after so maybe it didn't improve enough. GrinGrin

FourToTheFloor · 20/02/2017 16:02

Well it's what you said Blurry. Way to not explain yourself (added PA face for your benefit Hmm)

And none of my friends smoke so it's the poor addicts who have to trek outside on their lonesome with all the other "fun" addicts.

UnbornMortificado · 20/02/2017 16:04

I'm just surprised smoking addiction hasn't been compared to drug addiction yet.

TeaCake5 · 20/02/2017 16:05

"The friendliest people ever are in fact smokers"

FFS smokers come out with some shit to back up their puffing.

splendide · 20/02/2017 16:06

It is pretty comparable isn't it? Why not?

UnbornMortificado · 20/02/2017 16:11

Smoking doesn't get you high/alter your mood which is usually the aim with drugs.

Comparing smoking to drug addiction just minimises drug addiction.

I've been addicted to fags and addicted to (prescribed) diazepam they aren't comparable.

ProudBadMum · 20/02/2017 16:13

Tea we also know when someone's joking Wink

Alcohol is a drug isn't it? Love is a drug? I'd rather be addicted to crack than love though Grin

splendide · 20/02/2017 16:18

The affect might be different but the addiction is similar. Of course smoking alters your mood, that's the point isn't it?

splendide · 20/02/2017 16:21

sorry effect
