Advert for a local company popped up on my fb, what were they thinking!

Anyone else find this pretty ignorant and offensive
OP posts:
RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 19/02/2017 10:12

Its obviously perfectly ok to be annoyed by it and to 'stick up' for someone else

BertrandRussell · 19/02/2017 10:14

"I'd wager that driving humour out of all aspects of our lives in the name of political correctness will do more harm for our collective mental health than good."

Why do you think that humour has to be "politically incorrect"?

And ncidentally, it't not even funny. Obsessive Cake Desire might be mildly amusing at a massive stretch, but Obsessive Cake Disorder doesn't even make sense.

Emmageddon · 19/02/2017 10:15

I find it hard to find this offensive, but I don't have OCD. I do like cake though

MrsMeeseeks · 19/02/2017 10:16

You don't have to be offended by it to acknocwledge that it may be offensive.

MuseumOfCurry · 19/02/2017 10:20

You don't have to be offended by it to acknocwledge that it may be offensive.

But what we're told to find offensive has become somewhat arbitrary. 'Idiot' remains acceptable despite the fact that it's no different than 'retarded', and so on.

Katy07 · 19/02/2017 10:21

You don't have to be offended by it to acknocwledge that it may be offensive.
Absolutely anything can be offensive to someone. You not spelling acknowledge correctly offends me (my brain is screaming 'it looks wrong, can't cope!') but I don't expect everyone else to be offended too. And I don't need to point it out (but I needed a convenient example & it was handy, otherwise I wouldn't have done). I'm happy for other people to be offended too on someone else's behalf but I detest it when that "offendedness" is forced onto others - the whole 'I'm offended and you must be too'.

ReasonablyIntelligent · 19/02/2017 10:21

I've got OCD and don't find it offensive.
Its a pun on the acronym shrugs it makes no judgement or insult on mental health.
There are plenty of things worth getting offended about.

ThePants999 · 19/02/2017 10:24

So apart from the OP, 4 people on this thread have OCD, and 100% of them don't find this offensive. For those that don't have OCD and find this offensive, either you're taking personal offence at something that's nothing to do with you, which would be plain bizarre, or you're taking offence on behalf of other people (who don't find it offensive), and people doing that particular piece of lunacy are the reason you see councils banning flags of St. George and people wishing each other "happy holidays" on December 25th.

ThePants999 · 19/02/2017 10:24

Wait, now that's FIVE people with OCD, still 100% of whom don't find it offensive.

IateallthePies654 · 19/02/2017 10:28

I have OCD and I love cake , I think it's funny.

WayfaringStranger · 19/02/2017 10:28

I don't find it offensive but it's stupid and in poor taste.

MrsMeeseeks · 19/02/2017 10:29

Apart from the OP, ThePants.

I apologise for the offence caused by my typo.

OurBlanche · 19/02/2017 10:30

Can I ask... those of you who find it in poor taste...

Are you licking your screens? How do you know those cakes taste poor?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 19/02/2017 10:30

thepants

Or a third reason is that they may know someone with OCD who finds it offensive

OurBlanche · 19/02/2017 10:31

And I may have the secret to eternal life....

MrsMeeseeks · 19/02/2017 10:31

But what we're told to find offensive has become somewhat arbitrary.

Who is telling you to find this offensive?

bigearsthethird · 19/02/2017 10:31

I don't find it offensive. If you find it offensive op don't buy the cake?

Herdingcows · 19/02/2017 10:32

Love how my view doesn't matter the pants wouldn't want to mess with your 100% findings Grin

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 19/02/2017 10:34

"people doing that particular piece of lunacy are the reason you see councils banning flags of St. George and people wishing each other "happy holidays" on December 25th"

Oh yes. Don't forget Winterval. And at some state schools they actually say "herstory" because "history" is sexist. Can you believe it?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 19/02/2017 10:36

"people doing that particular piece of lunacy are the reason you see councils banning flags of St. George and people wishing each other "happy holidays" on December 25th"

I missed this, for goodness sake Hmm

StealthPolarBear · 19/02/2017 10:37

I am wrong. OCD is clearly something to aspire to and all the "sufferers" just like a clean kitchen

ForeverLivingMyArse · 19/02/2017 10:37

It's not funny and it's unnecessary. I'm not offended however I think the overuse or the term OCD to describe people that like to clean or like things in a certain order etc completely minimizes and undermines the condition.

This rubbish advert adds to that.

StealthPolarBear · 19/02/2017 10:38

And people with depression and /or anxiety just need to pull themselves together, bracing walk in the fresh air.

Toysaurus · 19/02/2017 10:38

I have OCD and I'm not offended. But then if you substituted the Obsessive for autistic for example I would be offended which proves the point the OCD jokes are fair game when they shouldn't be. There is nothing funny about having OCD at all.

EggsEleven · 19/02/2017 10:39

But the advert makes no reference to cleaning? It's about being obsessed with cakes.
