Advert for a local company popped up on my fb, what were they thinking!

Anyone else find this pretty ignorant and offensive

Hmm
I'm a little bit schizophrenic this morning.

OCD is seen almost as a badge of honour.

Katy07 · 19/02/2017 09:43

*Herding are you being offended on behalf of people with OCD?

Cos that is equally offensive... should you wish to find ways to be offended!*

This reminds me of a post recently where the OP used the term epileptic to describe her friend and got slated because apparently she should have used person with epilepsy. No-one bothered to ask what the OP's friend called herself. Or bothered to say that actually it was a personal choice. I have autism but I describe myself either as having Asperger's (I was diagnosed with Asperger's officially) or as autistic. I'd say I'm Aspergic only the word doesn't really exist. So people trying to decide what I should be called or what I should find offensive really pisses me off.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 19/02/2017 09:44

Just makes them look thick.

Herdingcows · 19/02/2017 09:46

Herding are you being offended on behalf of people with OCD?

No, I have OCD
I'm offended on behalf of myself, If that's allowed Confused

CallingGloria got it in one Wink
I love mumsnet a bit too much but Jesus wept, a large percentage of my fellow members are so highly-strung and appear to enjoy being offended that it's even a bit too much for me (who usually finds the professionally offended a little bit funny).

yorkshapudding · 19/02/2017 09:52

Not sure why the OP is getting such a hard time. If you don't find it offensive then that's fine, but OP does so why shouldn't she express that? It's not up to you to tell people how they are allowed to feel.

fuckingwall · 19/02/2017 09:52

It's in poor taste in my opinion.

OurBlanche · 19/02/2017 09:53

If you have real OCD, not the fashionable version that seems to be so popular these days - and utterly undermines, ridicules and truly offends people who really do have it - then feel free to be offended.

There. Now what else would like to happen?

Oh, and DSis, who has OCD, the real thing, finds that funny, even quite clever, as it has keyed into her need for symmetry, which that picture does NOT have. She finds the chocolate cake, bottom left, particularly offensive and has one solution, eat it, then she can't see it!

And no, I am not joking. And I suspect my DSis has a happier handle on her OCD for being able to see round it!

rainbowstardrops · 19/02/2017 09:53

I have had OCD since childhood and I'm not remotely offended if I'm honest.
There again, I think that the world is going a bit bonkers with being offended by everything and the PC brigade where you get to the point when you worry about opening your mouth without fear of saying something politically incorrect or offensive.
The world is going mad

zippey · 19/02/2017 09:54

OCD isnt the only mental illness people think it's ok to make fun of. I can give you depression and scizophrenia as others offhand. I'm sure there are plenty others.

fuckingwall · 19/02/2017 09:54

I certainly wouldn't give that company my custom.

MrsMeeseeks · 19/02/2017 09:54

It's twatty and ignorant. I don't know why people treat OCD as a subject of ridicule.

rainbowstardrops · 19/02/2017 09:55

The world is going mad

I've probably offended someone with that statement without even trying.
I'll get my coat

kittybiscuits · 19/02/2017 09:55

It's completely unfunny, very badly done and in really poor taste.

MuseumOfCurry · 19/02/2017 09:57

No.

scaryteacher · 19/02/2017 09:57

Has the last word been 'desire' instead of 'disorder' , but still using the acronym, would you still be offended?

Katy07 · 19/02/2017 09:57

rainbowstardrops Grin

fueledbybacon · 19/02/2017 09:59

Are you also offended by AA? Towing company are clearly being insulting to alcoholics Hmm

QuiteLikely5 · 19/02/2017 10:00

I think it's a very unique idea, however the word police will be out in full force on MN!!!!!

BertrandRussell · 19/02/2017 10:00

I don't think it's offensive exactly- but it is pretty ignorant and rude.

Incidentally, do people really think you can't be offended on behalf of somebody else? What about racism?

HerOtherHalf · 19/02/2017 10:01

They're obviously not seeking to offend so why take offense? I'd wager that driving humour out of all aspects of our lives in the name of political correctness will do more harm for our collective mental health than good.

JanuaryMoods · 19/02/2017 10:04

Mildly amusing. No offence intended.

BertrandRussell · 19/02/2017 10:08

"I'd wager that driving humour out of all aspects of our lives in the name of political correctness will do more harm for our collective mental health than good."

Why do you think that humour has to be "politically incorrect"?

MrsMeeseeks · 19/02/2017 10:09

I always wonder about people who complain about others being offended and talk about the 'PC brigade'. Why the indignation about something that offends others and not yourself? A difference of opinion is an opportunity for discussion, not something to be sneered at.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 19/02/2017 10:10

Agree with lumpy

It really isnt the only one

Especially the belittling
