To think that there MUST be a beatles song for everyone

Quite a few people have said on here they don't like the Beatles music. But surely with songs ranging from the likes of Hey Jude, Let it be, The long and winding road to In my life, And i love her, I wanna hold your hand and countless countless more there's got to be something for everyone.

I'm prepared for people to say they hate their music but it's so varied and diverse that i struggle to understand this. Aibu.

Super your post is exactly what this thread is about. You "hate" the Beatles music, but it's so diverse, this is what i don't understand. Please don't think i'm being arrogant. You're perfectly entitled to dislike them. But i just wonder...is it the sound of their voices, or their harmonising?. I could understand it if all their music was the same, but it isn't. Ive put up the list of 409 of their songs, are there really none that you like?, because they're so different. Smile

Nope, don't like them. Can appreciate they were very talented and original, groundbreaking for their time etc. But I just don't like their songs.

SuperBeagle · 18/02/2017 22:56

It's a combination of things for me, OP. I find John Lennon and Paul McCartney's voices grating, and I can't stand their personalities on top of that. That might be an irrational reason to dislike a band, but love it or hate it, a band is the members. Their music just isn't to my taste. I think most people either prefer the Stones or the Beatles and I would take the Stones any time, as I think their music is better, more diverse, much better live, and I think the members are much cooler and less wanky.

SuperBeagle · 18/02/2017 22:57

And with all due respect, I'm not going to listen to 409 Beatles songs when I've heard many and the only one I like is HS. It just isn't worth my time.

They're not the only popular band I don't like, just the only one that seems to cause people to stare at me in disbelief when I tell them I'm not a fan. Grin

acornsandnuts · 18/02/2017 22:59

Loved John Lennon stuff after the Beatles . Disliked all Beatles music. It is diverse I agree but not one song hit me in the right spot.

I really really can't watch any performance without wanting to throw things at McCartneys wobbly dog head. Ridiculous. But there again I can play Mull of Kintire on a recorder without wanting to kill someone so maybe I'm just fickle.

RhodaBorrocks · 18/02/2017 23:00

I for one am named after a Beatles song, so I know which one is my song! Grin

BikeRunSki · 18/02/2017 23:00

On if my first memories is lying in bed listening to my uncle play "Here Comes the Sun" and "Let It Be". Smile

LordPercy · 18/02/2017 23:00

I get the same look when I "confess" that I can't stand Elvis either! 😂

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 18/02/2017 23:08

I was born in 1959. Growing up you were either a Beatles fan or a Stones fan.

I am old enough now to appreciate both.

But Paul McC grinds my gears.

Hotfuzzed · 18/02/2017 23:10

They didnt release any grime of afrobeats numbers so no, nothing for me.

By the way that was definitely a joke.

Runny · 18/02/2017 23:12

See I think the Stones are shit, and they also look absolutley pathetic these days. Mick Jagger is just a grubby old perve Imo

Different strokes I suppose. I do take issue with the idea that all Beatles songs sound the same though. Of course they fucking don't!

SkyLucy · 18/02/2017 23:12

YABU. I'm not a golden oldie but I've loved them since I was a child - I even travelled to California at 5 months preggers to see Macca! (And the Stones, whom I actually prefer these days...) And I guess my username's telling....however, no of course there isn't a song for everyone! And they really weren't that diverse! Groundbreaking yes. Innovative yes. But diverse enough to attract everyone?! No! That would be bizarre. If you're a fan of heavy metal, prog rock, hip hop, punk, rap, techno, dubstep, ska, etc.....then you might struggle to find a Beatles number you like. And that's okay!

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 18/02/2017 23:21

My fave is 'I Want You (She's So Heavy). It's a lot sexier than most Beatles tracks IMO. They can lack a bit of edge sometimes. Not on this track.

seagazer · 18/02/2017 23:21

Yes but sky i'm talking about music Grin. With all due respect i would never describe punk and rap as music. I'll admit that many people do like it but let's be fair, none of that stuff will still be getting played in 50 years time. You can be a fan of all that stuff but a true music lover should surely appreciate other stuff even if it's not really their cup of tea.

ollieplimsoles · 18/02/2017 23:21

I love the Beatles, I'm 27 and the songs remind me of being in art school, I'd listen to them every day and they gave me so much inspiration.

My favourite songs are 'Penny Lane' (my dd's song), 'I wanna hold your hand' and most of all- 'Anna (go with him).
Mick Hucknell's live cover at Abby Road for the 'Please, please me' documentary was just perfect, not to mention Beverley Knight's amazing cover of 'twist and shout'

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 18/02/2017 23:25

You lost me when you were so unnecessarily rude about punk and rap.

Rap/Hip-hop has already endured for almost 30 years and has huge cultural relevance. It may not be to your taste but you lose credibility by discrediting other types of music.

Don't be such a terrible snob.

SuperBeagle · 18/02/2017 23:30

OP, a lot of those bands from the 60s/early 70s said the same thing about punk enduring... yet, here we are.

EggsEleven · 18/02/2017 23:31

With all due respect i would never describe punk and rap as music. I'll admit that many people do like it but let's be fair, none of that stuff will still be getting played in 50 years time

How long do you think punk and rap has been around for OP? Quite a long time and it still gets played and still influences many current musicians/bands.

seagazer · 18/02/2017 23:34

I wouldn't call it being snobbish. But even if it is whats the difference when people discredit Beatles music? If that is acceptable then i'm within my rights to say how i dislike punk and rap. People are saying they don't like the Beatles, i'm saying i don't like punk. What's the difference?

OP posts:
SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 18/02/2017 23:42

You didn't say you dislike it, you said it's not music.
Snobbish

SuperBeagle · 18/02/2017 23:44

But you said punk is not music and that it won't be played in 50 years time. None of us non-Beatles fans are saying that about the Beatles.

Punk has been around since the 70s and bands like The Clash are routinely listed among the greatest bands of all time. It's fair play to say you don't like them, but to discount them as music is thoroughly inaccurate.

MintChocAddict · 18/02/2017 23:45

Two of them featured in my wedding (Beatles songs that is - not the actual Beatles Wink - Take note Gary Barlow Hmm )

Here Comes the Sun and In my Life

seagazer · 18/02/2017 23:49

If it's snobbish for me to say i don't rate punk and rap as music then so be it, i'm a snob. It's snobbish to say Beatles music is crap too.

OP posts:
SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 18/02/2017 23:53

You don't say you don't rate it as music, you said it's not music. That makes you sound like a judgemental twat.
You're missing the distinction here.
