It's a bigly Trump thread. Another beauty. But you don't need to know what's in it. I don't have to tell you. So there.

There was a press conference. It was interesting.

He doesn't understand that press have a bias.

I think you meant a "brain" there.

Bias or not, anyone with more than a brain cell can see he's not good for the US or democracy.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 08:32

“I am the least anti-Semitic person that you’ve ever seen in your entire life,” Mr. Trump said.

You know what he really means when he makes these over the top declarations, don't you?

Like nobody respects women more...

Megatherium · 17/02/2017 08:35

As he's the least anti-Semitic person we have all seen in our entire lives, that makes him less anti-Semitic than, for instance, Jewish people. Interesting.

reup · 17/02/2017 08:39

I saw a link on twitter to this survey in his website. I entertained myself filling it in to skew the results but you have to make up an email address and a zip code. I particularly like the gun violence question - so ridiculous.

The MSNBC website has lots of interviews with talking heads on this situation, including an analysis of how Kelly Ann Conway evades answering questions. Morning Joe is refusing to interview her any more, it's that frustrating!

TheNorthWestPawsage · 17/02/2017 08:48

Just caught up with the press conference...Good Grief! (To quote Charlie Brown) I'm now rocking in my corner with Linus's blanket! The language he used/uses is extraordinary. I really think his "staff" have taken to briefing him with kindergarten flash picture cards - the point and repeat type! It's the only explanation. I wonder what the picture for 'uranium' is??

Bensyster · 17/02/2017 08:50

Place marking - loving these threads, maybe a bit too much!

merrymouse · 17/02/2017 08:52

kitten completely agree re: anti semitism.

The reply was indefensible and frightening.

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 17/02/2017 08:56

DS and I just watched the 5 minute "highlights" version of the presser on the Washington Post site. DS: "It's like something a child would say" (DS is 8). Then "he's like [the school bully - who is one of these kids who pushes everyone around, then if the other child defends themselves, goes running to teacher] - only grown up and with lots of power". DS has just added that he's mad and makes him think of George III on Horrible Histories (unfortunately, he's making me think of HH's Caligula Sad).

The anti-semitism and Congressional Black Caucus comments stood out as particular low-points. (That's the wrong way of phrasing it - minimises the sheer horror of listening - but I can't think of the right words.)

God, I hope someone finds the smoking gun that connects him to Russia.

DeviTheGaelet · 17/02/2017 08:56

I think this "FAKE NEWS" craziness is deliberate because they are a fasc8st government. Read this

Another day and another placemark. Unfortunately have nothing to add except to say how can this be happening. Why didn't people see through the lies of Trump and the Brexit campaign.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 08:59

That survey. Grin

I've replied with a suggestive name and email, as well as Trump Tower's postal code.

I think lots of fun can we have. :)

badkitten
I know. part of me is proud that he is becoming politically aware.
part of me is worried that I've talked about it too much
(we've viewed a few of the America First / various countries second vids on youtube, though I've screened them first as some are okay and some have a lot of bad language)
But I remember being very aware in the early/mid 80's of the end of the cold war / going on CND marches, so maybe it's not so bad?
Interestingly, ds, who is VERY dyslexic himself remarked on Trumps vocabulary when he saw a speech clip on BBC news last night.
He said: 'Mum, he speaks like a Y6 would'.

He is not wrong.

MsHooliesCardigan · 17/02/2017 09:00

Does anyone remember 'The President's Brain is missing' from Spitting Image about Reagan? I'd love Spitting Image to come back but, on reflection, it would be hard to make him look more ridiculous than he actually is, he's become a parody of himself.
I predict that, within the next month, his advisors will be chasing him round the WH with a tranquilliser gun.

pinboard · 17/02/2017 09:04

MostlyBowling

x posts.

Interesting how the children are calling:
"The Emperor has no clothes on" isn't it?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 17/02/2017 09:05

This is a fake thread. FAKE THREAD.

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 17/02/2017 09:07

Funny how things come full circle... my earliest memories (I'd be about the age DS is now) is of my parents getting very agitated about Watergate. I didn't understand what was going on but got this sense of really momentous things happening and I can still remember that feeling now.

But absolutely, pinboard - children can read people very accurately.

thickgit · 17/02/2017 09:07

Place marking. Thank you for keeping me up to date.

Roussette · 17/02/2017 09:17

Spitting Image oh yes... but agree hoolie the real Orange One is far far worse than any puppet could possibly be.

My DD has a theory she ran past me this morning. She said how much DT and Spicer et al are pushing the Flynn apologising to Pence on and on. That being the reason he resigned, nothing to do with Russia connection, just the naughty little fib to Pence, because Pence deserves more than that. DD reckons they (i.e. those behind the scenes) are keeping Pence whiter than white with little exposure so he can step in when Orange One is carted off for whatever reason. Good theory I told DD

pinboard · 17/02/2017 09:22

MsHoolie
now, that's a weird x post.
I was explaining this to ds last night.
told him about Spitting Image / Presidents Brain joke.
Told him that it was later discovered that Regan did in fact have a degenerative brain disease and that early signs might have been there then.
Explained it's possible with Trump.
Reassured him that, despite 'Protect and Survive' years, I am still here, we are all still here. Trump will NOT start WW3.

Then, we went and played Robocraft together Grin

woman12345 · 17/02/2017 09:23

Cake ami thanks

pinboard · 17/02/2017 09:25

Crikey, Rousette how old is your DD to be making such detailed comments?

CussingQuim · 17/02/2017 09:30

I don't know if this will be articulate or even what I'm trying to say, but the thing is, it's already yesterday's news; his supporters online are saying he's valiantly battling an oppressive media who are out for themselves.

There are no "rational" adults in the White House in the way we define them. An old man has taken over America, tried to wipe out liberties; already wiped out the checks and balances that would have protected the poor; enriched his cronies; and vacationed a lot while blustering at anyone who questions him. It's going to get worse in terms of challenging everything we thought was orderly and progressive.

Like Farage and Johnson, when he won he looked like he didn't really want the job. He's depending on the "grown ups" elsewhere to be the mature ones and avoid wars while he blusters around and looks cool to his fans.

We don't even know how many fans he has - twitter and fb are flooded with fake accounts and bots. He denies polls, and polls have got things wrong before. The only measure is in the ballot box and they're not going to have a re-election now, and by the time they do this will all be so entrenched.

In one way it's quite life-affirming: we should all stop worrying about the consequences and go for it more often. Look how far he's got after all while being openly offensive and horrendous in every way.

In another, it's terrifying as it's the end of "society" as we know it - one with attempts at rules and consequences and right and wrong and education. It's anarchy / dictatorship in action.

There's every chance this is just the way things are now - this big resurgence of The Right manipulating the masses.

CussingQuim · 17/02/2017 09:31

Did any of that splurge make sense?

I hope I'm just being a pessimistic cow and I'll be wrong.

CaveMum · 17/02/2017 09:33

Saw this on Twitter, I'm really not sure it's even English Hmm
