One little ray of light , this must be reminding the world of the critical importance of strong journalists

I liked the CNN question about the first amendment. I do wonder what the views are in America. What the actual country thinks.

I haven't really come across anyone pro-Trump in the UK so far, or Ireland, where I work fairly frequently. Working abroad again this week in a non-EU country and I've met my first real life Trump supporters, quite a confusing experience (and not USA) ConfusedConfused

Yup, someone's grabbed his phone again.

When I see Trump , I shake my head in utter disbelief. It's obvious that he understands very little about foreign politics and really can't be bothered to learn.
As another posters has said, the whole thing gets even more crazy.
God help us.

amispartacus · 17/02/2017 07:39

He has no idea about race relations, foreign policy etc - he is out of his depth. Look at his response to questions on Chicago, the rise in hate crime, Iran, Russian provocation - not a clue,

Perhaps he will be so busy campaigning that he will have to delegate doing any actual Presidential stuff.

GreenGinger2 · 17/02/2017 07:56

That news conference anti CNN BBC rant scared the shit out of me. It's like seeing a dictatorship. His attempt to bully Jon Sophel.Shock

Are Americans seriously not incensed as an entire country? They just seem to passive,as if they're just sitting there in shock, letting him do what he wants. It's crazy. I just don't get it. He's surely not going to last a month in that job.

blueskyinmarch · 17/02/2017 07:56

Good morning you beautiful people. Another day in Trumpton awaits us. What will unfold today?

CaveMum · 17/02/2017 07:58

Thanks for the new thread ami. Some great work, just beautiful.

The question of (perceived) BBC bias has come up on the threads again recently and I maintain that because I've heard people on both the Left and Right complain about BBC bias that actually they are doing something right. If both sides are complaining about you favouring "the other side" then you are obviously presenting balanced arguements.

echt · 17/02/2017 08:02

Having not RTFT, I apologise bigly, but what struck me about the quotes from Trump in this:

is how he can't actually speak cogent English, not just the misapplied words, but grammar and sentence structure. This isn't a grammar pedant rant; I think there's something not quite right in what, for want of a better word, I must call his brain.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 17/02/2017 08:03

From today's Guardian:

Trump said he wasn’t “ranting and raving” during his press conference, and that was correct. The president was confidently unhinged as he spent more than an hour berating the press and boasting without any real basis that “there has never been a presidency that’s done so much in such a short period of time”.

Confidently unhinged sounds spot on.

coldcanary I have a very bright 12 year old who is just becoming politically aware.

What with Brexit, and now THIS we are talking politics a lot in our house atm

He got up at 11pm last night looking really worried and said:
'Mum do ANY of the adults know what they are doing'
It was hard to sound convincing Sad

Roussette · 17/02/2017 08:07

Wonderful title, thanks for thread ami.

I go to bed shaking my head in disbelief, and wake up doing the same. How long can this go on I say to myself...

An important point made on Sky this morning... DT doesn't understand how the press works, he wants everyone to say how wonderful he is. He doesn't understand that press have a bias. One way or the other. That's democracy and a free press.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2017 08:08

The reply to the question about anti-semitism was probably the single worst bit of the presser for me. I'm astonished that the reporter was treated that way, I'm also astonished that he so wants to give Trump a chance that he was willing to give Trump a chance.

I think what he was looking for was for Trump to denounce those of his supporters who are anti-semitic in a clear way, believing that they don't represent Trump. Only what he recieved was another green light, another incitement to anti-semitic acts.

helzapoppin2 · 17/02/2017 08:11

Hi y'all!

Lweji · 17/02/2017 08:22

The president was confidently unhinged as he spent more than an hour berating the press and boasting without any real basis that “there has never been a presidency that’s done so much in such a short period of time”.
He reminds me more and more of the former Venezuelan leader Chávez. Looking forward to several hour long mandatory TV speeches.
As well as isolation of the country, impoverishment, and forceful removal of political opponents.

Roussette · 17/02/2017 08:22

And kitten he blamed the other side, said it wasn't necessarily his supporters.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2017 08:23

your poor lad pinboard :(

morning helza.

chartreuse · 17/02/2017 08:23

When he was elected lots of commentators said that the system of checks and balances the US is so proud of would stop him from doing anything crazy. But everyone seems to be just standing back, saying nothing, doing less. Is that the strategy do you think? Letting him hang himself? When is Paul Ryan going to step in?

Deadsouls · 17/02/2017 08:24

Batshit crazy press conference!
Why oh why is still on about the amount of votes he got?!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2017 08:24

true Rousette, amongst his ramblings I missed that. What would have been wrong with a simple denouncement?
