It's a bigly Trump thread. Another beauty. But you don't need to know what's in it. I don't have to tell you. So there.

Had you considered that maybe they had calmed him down? Smile

I used to really enjoy watching the US Apprentice. Might as well get that out there. DT came across as a typical rather blustery business type with an off beat sense of humour and very little common sense. It's obviously my own ignorance at play but I never once realised that he could be so unhinged and dangerous until he became the republican nominee.
I wonder how many American voters feel the same.

peaceout · 17/02/2017 00:41

I feel that some sort of scoring system might be useful...someway of quantifying the sheer 'out there'-ness of Trump related events.

Perhaps a logarithmic scale like the Richter scale, rather than a linear scale, otherwise things may well just go off the chart too quickly?

Events could be scored according to how, amusing, alarming, surreal they are?

Or some kind of 'map' to get through this, some idea of what stage we are at and what other stages we might have to go through?

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 00:42

It never really was funny, Hate.

HateSummer · 17/02/2017 00:55

Yes it was never funny. But this is insane. People are laughing at his hands, his tan, the way he talks...what's the point? with every word he speaks he's more dangerous. We're just another pawn in his tacky global reality show...

AdoraBell · 17/02/2017 00:58

Can't help it cozie, soz

The way he spoke to Jon Sopel of the BBC was, I felt, quite chilling. He asked who he was, then did the whole "I know you" thing. It reminded me of the Trump official who said she'd be "taking names." Despite the fact Trump's audience was those he couldn't see, what type of idiot tries to belittle a journalist, with jokey little remarks, in a room of, er.... journalists?

I still can't get over his one or two State remark. When he said he was liking the look of the one State. I've made more informed decisions when choosing a new brand of mascara ! "So, there's black, brown/black and clear? I'm liking the look of clear".

And yy to the earlier poster about Gorka on Newsnight tonight - what a sinister little toad he is. You could see Evan Davis was finding it hard to frame his questions in a neutral BBC way, because the correct question was could you stop spouting utter shite and actually give a straight answer. I think it may have been you Ginger who highlighted the badge he wore/wears, some questionable organisation ? I kept peering at the screen, he was definitely still wearing something on his lapel.

Cozie Re the dam; The evacuation order has been downgraded to 'advised' from 'mandatory'. They've made emergency repairs (read jerry-rigged) to the emergency spill way and have been able to release enough water to lower the lake level below the expected inflow from the storms we expect over the next few days. Officials are still keeping a close eye on the approaching storms and the lake levels. So, so far so good!

AcrossthePond55 · 17/02/2017 01:44

On the Trump front, DH has changed the channel (it's 'news hour' here)at least 6 times in the last 10 minutes, each time shouting 'No fucking TRUMP!!!'. Grin

Someone mentioned it up above, but I would love, love, LOVE if we had the equivalent to PMQT. Problem is, no Dem would be able to get a word in. It'd end up in a Trump/Ryan/et all 'love feast'.

I really enjoy PMQT. Especially because the MPs pull no punches. Lots of grumbling in the background at unpopular statements and MPs saying "My Rt Honourable Colleague is an idiot!" when they disagree.

Watching Newsnight tonight, I really missed Paxman, he wouldn't have let weasley Gorka gaslight him!

Article about the badge he was wearing

nicenewdusters · 17/02/2017 02:22

Thanks for the link about the badge Destiny. I agree about Paxman. He had that studied air of intellectual menace about him. I like to think he would have taken Gorka's assertions apart.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 02:22

Thanks for that info about the dam, Across. Better news. Smile

I felt this too. I actually thought he really didn't know too much about it and hadn't formed a position of any kind; so, quite easily led by his advisors and Israel.

amispartacus · 17/02/2017 06:03

Wow - recommend that Newsnight interview - it's very strange.

Just deflecting and attacking any question as fake news.

The claim about the win.

He 'guessed' it was the biggest win....

And that response to a rise in anti-semitism. Just WTAF.

I do think the debate on Monday in Parliament will be interesting. Does May see herself in his responses - avoid the answer

The response to the Jewish reporter - I don't think he understood the question. He just jumped in:

I haven’t seen anybody in my community accuse either yourself or anyone on your staff of being anti-Semitic,” Mr. Turx said. But, citing bomb threats against Jewish centers, he said, “What we haven’t really heard being addressed is an uptick in anti-Semitism and how the government is planning to take care of it.”

Mr. Trump bristled, taking it as a suggestion that he was anti-Semitic even though the reporter specifically said the opposite. “I am the least anti-Semitic person that you’ve ever seen in your entire life,” Mr. Trump said.

Mr. Turx protested that he was not suggesting otherwise. “Quiet, quiet, quiet,” Mr. Trump said. “See? He lied. He was going to get up and ask a very straight, simple question.” Instead, Mr. Trump said, the question was “repulsive” and “very insulting.” He later accused Democrats of posing as supporters and holding up signs at his rallies to smear him.

President Trump clearly misunderstood my question. This is highly regretful and I'm going to seek clarification. #TrumpNewsConference

Clearly misunderstanding Hmm

That's dangerous as the President of the United States

Each day I think things can't get crazier and then they do.
One little ray of light , this must be reminding the world of the critical importance of strong journalists.
