It's a bigly Trump thread. Another beauty. But you don't need to know what's in it. I don't have to tell you. So there.

More from The Guardian

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/feb/16/donald-trump-press-conference-media-criticism-not-funny

Of course, the American version of The Office was set in Scranton, Pennsylvania, so maybe there’s something to that argument. Much like the epic mockumentary, it’s clear that President Ricky Gervais has no idea how unintentionally funny he is. The only difference is that this boss is armed with uranium and he has no idea what to do now. Which means the joke is really on us.

cozietoesie · 16/02/2017 23:40

Oh it's frightening all right, Bore. Just get it out of your system here and keep smiling in other places. Smile

SenecaFalls · 16/02/2017 23:40

Might I ask any US residents who are posting or reading, what they or their friends and family thought of the presser?

I thought it was very alarming and I was already about as alarmed as I thought it possible to be.

cozietoesie · 16/02/2017 23:42

Or as my DBro said, 'Nothing's happened yet'.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/02/2017 23:44

cozie not my words, unfortunately, was a quote from the article.

Surely though, surely after that performance he can't be allowed to continue?

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 16/02/2017 23:45

I'm watching Question Time on catch-up. God it's dull, especially when there is a crazy on the loose in the White House.

cozietoesie · 16/02/2017 23:47

Bore

You have to remember just how big the Office of President is in the States. HUGE.

Clnz4fun · 16/02/2017 23:52

Thanks cozie I had watched about 15 min of the press, he is just plain insane.

MayhemandMadness01 · 16/02/2017 23:54

How much longer do we have to listen to him?

coldcanary · 17/02/2017 00:06

Blatant place marking Grin
Had a discussion with DS (16) about this whole shit show earlier. He feels all big brotherly towards young Barron at the moment - "it can't be easy having that twat as a father" were his exact words. I felt the need to gently tell him off for his language while agreeing with him at the same time...
(Note: we're in the NW. Twat is not a word to be used lightly here)

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 00:09

Keep smiling though, cold. Youngsters may appear grown up when they really aren't.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 00:11

Too long I fear, Mayhem. (Personally, I'm considering becoming - and staying - lightly drunk.)

Destinysdaughter · 17/02/2017 00:14

"Hundreds were hospitalized durin' Trump's press conference today after playin' the ill-advised "fake-news" drinkin' game."

SenecaFalls · 17/02/2017 00:14

Apparently, Trump is kicking off his 2020 campaign this Saturday in my very own swing state. As we say in the South, Lord have mercy.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 00:15

Might I ask - Across is it? - how things are going with the dam problem?

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 00:17

Ah Yes, Seneca. His 'feelgood' rally.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 00:21

Feelgood or money grabbing?

If he's campaigning he can ask people for money.

Megatherium · 17/02/2017 00:25

People moan on about alleged BBC bias, but the problem is that with performances like that press conference no-one has to be biased to show the bad side of Trump; all they have to do is show the plain unvarnished facts. There is no way to spin any of that into a good news story short of outright lies.

I'm picturing what was going on behind the scenes when it started so late. I suspect there were frantic attempts to calm him down and persuade him to try to say something sensible, but eventually they thought "What the fuck, there's nothing we can do, he'll just have to go out there and hang himself".

BagelGoesWalking · 17/02/2017 00:26

security expenses for Trump family protection

HateSummer · 17/02/2017 00:26

I don't think this is funny anymore. When the hell is the world going to wake up? I thought his press conference with the savage Israeli prime minister was bad enough. This press conference was just horrifying.

coldcanary · 17/02/2017 00:29

I'm right with you on the lightly drunk cozie, it just helps.
Is it a coincidence that BBC4 is showing the nazis a warning from history at the moment?
I've ditched FB for Twitter and keep coming across American tweeters upset about the fact that 'the world is laughing at them' or judging them. What # could we start to let them know that we just want to give them an understanding hug?

BagelGoesWalking · 17/02/2017 00:31

The sad thing is that so many Israelis don't support Bibi, but the more left wing parties don't really have any good or charismatic leaders who are going to win elections. The small (extreme) religious parties hold the balance of power because of the proportional representation system and will always go into coalition with the right wing not the left wing.

It's such a shame because there are many, many people who would go a very different way to Bibi's way.

Israel's "alliance" with Trump is going to end very badly, I fear.

PausingFlatly · 17/02/2017 00:32

Mm, just read one of the CNN pieces linked above:edition.cnn.com/2017/02/16/politics/donald-trump-press-conference-amazing-day-in-history/index.html

The journalist takes very short Trump sound bites, and writes an article around them so that they appear to make sense.

Is this what's been happening with The Apprentice editing - and indeed much news editing? In their urge to write something coherent rather than leave their audience struggling with gibberish, are journalists and editors inventing a Trump speech - one which is more rational and palatable than the man's actual speech?

Dunno. I have someone in my family who - while not on a scale of Trump - churns out a certain amount of crazy. It's always a fair bet a person relaying a message from her has amended it to sound significantly more rational: repeating what she's really said is too embarrassing, and too unlikely to achieve the errand she's sent them on. She used to use me like this, too; one day it dawned on me that I was inventing stuff to try to make her sound better. And I swore she'd never make a liar of me again.
