Mm, just read one of the CNN pieces linked above:edition.cnn.com/2017/02/16/politics/donald-trump-press-conference-amazing-day-in-history/index.html
The journalist takes very short Trump sound bites, and writes an article around them so that they appear to make sense.
Is this what's been happening with The Apprentice editing - and indeed much news editing? In their urge to write something coherent rather than leave their audience struggling with gibberish, are journalists and editors inventing a Trump speech - one which is more rational and palatable than the man's actual speech?
Dunno. I have someone in my family who - while not on a scale of Trump - churns out a certain amount of crazy. It's always a fair bet a person relaying a message from her has amended it to sound significantly more rational: repeating what she's really said is too embarrassing, and too unlikely to achieve the errand she's sent them on. She used to use me like this, too; one day it dawned on me that I was inventing stuff to try to make her sound better. And I swore she'd never make a liar of me again.
