It's a bigly Trump thread. Another beauty. But you don't need to know what's in it. I don't have to tell you. So there.

There was a press conference. It was interesting.

Yay! I knew my really obscure MA would come in handy one day Grin

GingerIvy · 17/02/2017 15:01

Just catching up, but in case nobody's posted it yet. This is just laughable.

Thank you for all of the nice statements on the Press Conference yesterday. Rush Limbaugh said one of greatest ever. Fake media not happy!

MsHooliesCardigan · 17/02/2017 15:05

What happened to claig? I'm pretty sure she said she was a woman. His/her silence is deafening.

Roussette · 17/02/2017 15:07

Oh blimey, I called claig a 'he', I made that mistake addressing her too. I meant 'she' I think

BiglyBadgers · 17/02/2017 15:08

fakename that is a very interesting post and thank you for putting your experience up here. It has been mentioned before how his tactics are very similar to those of abusive spouses and i see the same behaviour in many of his ardent followers. You hit the nail on the head though with the dilemma of how to deal with with. The general advice when dealing with any kind of abuser is to leave as soon as possible and not engage, but how can you do that when it is the president of the united states? What do you do when it it literally impossible to walk away or ignore this person?

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 15:11

It all boils down to the nukes, doesn't it? Sad

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 15:13

Well done that reporter. 'Going back to basics', indeed.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 15:16

If you can't walk away, it pays to stand firm and not take any shit. Remain calm and consistent. Not to rise to any provocations and stay focused on what matters. Only reply to what matters.

Example, he starts going on about "fake media". You don't respond. Just ask your question. Insist on it (Paxman style), or ask for clarification of the reply so that they can't escape it.
Say, you ask about Russia links. He diverts. You follow up with: so, are you saying that you never contacted Russia pre-election? Repeat as necessary.

As for his minions in the WH and Congress, they need to stick together and exchange notes. They need a united front.

Everything you need to know about Alexander Acosta, Pres. Trump's new labor secretary nominee: abcn.ws/2lZI9bJ

TheMysteriousJackelope · 17/02/2017 15:20

GreenGinger Many people in the US are incensed. I live in a Southern state that is largely Republican. An activist group started up in my city. They held their first meeting and expected maybe 40 or 50 people to show if they were lucky. 400 people turned up.

MsHooliesCardigan · 17/02/2017 15:20

It's really hard for normal human beings, which I think most of us are, to encounter someone who is completely devoid of empathy or reason. In RL, if I disagree with someone, we can usually have a reasoned discussion about it. There are hundreds of things I have changed my mind about over the years as a result of conversations I've had, books I've read or programmes I've watched. I see being able to admit that you were wrong about something as a good thing, not a weakness. Has Trump ever publicly admitted to being wrong about anything? When you are a normal human being who is able to care about others and respect that others may have a different opinion, it is really uncomfortable to be confronted with someone who so clearly doesn't care about anyone except himself. It's like the normal rules of human behaviour don't apply.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 15:22

I've just found this truly bigly account of what really happened on Inauguration day.

For some light relief.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 15:25

Acosta is interesting.
The first Latino nominee for Trump.
Dodgy deals with Epstein.
But defended Muslims. I wonder if he'll have something to say about the ban.
And has some experience on a Labor board.

GingerIvy · 17/02/2017 15:26

Speechless. Utterly speechless that it was even considered.

Memo obtained by AP shows Trump considering mobilizing the National Guard to round up unauthorized immigrants.

GingerIvy · 17/02/2017 15:27

The nice thing is that while they're apparently still considering it, governors of each state can nix it. I know a few right off the bat that would say no.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 15:27

He really is as bad, or worse, as we think, isn't he?

GingerIvy · 17/02/2017 15:30

I think if he calls out the Natl Guard to assist in rounding up undocumented people, it will not go over well with some of his fan base. Some will like it - but each time he does something stupid like this, it chips away at his support base.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 15:32

Thanks, Lweji. A rare moment of chortles for me there.

Yes. As we think, indeed.

klassy · 17/02/2017 15:32

Yes FakeNameChangePeople, my mum's the same too - DH and I have been talking about it a lot, the exact same tactics and attitudes and dynamics.

It's very baffling to watch someone trying to do it to the whole world though! I thought it was limited to tiny dysfunctional groups as SURELY no one would take these people seriously professionally.

Too early for Wine anyone?

SanFranBear · 17/02/2017 15:33

I'm wondering if it's me... am I just not seeing something and he can't be as bad as I think he is?

This thread is great in that I find like-minded people who bring me comfort. BUT - I wonder if we're the ones in the wrong? Are we so far to the left we're as blinded as The Emperors supporters.

I don't think we are.. but the fact there is still so much support for him - even for that diabolical press conference Shock

I've tried Googling to see if I can find such scathing media reports from the first few weeks of the Obama presidency and am not finding any... but surely there were?

Argh - my head is a mess Sad

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 15:33

I think it's Gin time, klassy.

Chippednailvarnishing · 17/02/2017 15:34

Can't wait for SNL's take on this week.
They could literally just read the transcript of yesterday's press conference and they would have a show.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 15:36

SanFran

I keep as my lodestone, the utterance of a previous incumbent. 'not fit to serve' were the words used, I think?

GingerIvy · 17/02/2017 15:39

Dear God, he's going to be doing a weekly address. FFS.
