It's a bigly Trump thread. Another beauty. But you don't need to know what's in it. I don't have to tell you. So there.

There was a press conference. It was interesting.

I hold no brief for these stats - but it might make interesting reading in light of some PP's experiences.

25 beliefs

JessiCake: "Of course, it's just possible he's a genius. "

Yes, that's the other possibility. That he's somehow understood that repeating things loudly, using very simple words, has a kind of hypnotic effect on people. That's the only explanation I can think of for the large numbers who seem to think his lies, his aggression, his ignorance are signs of "brilliance".

Your suggestion about every journalist asking the same question until he gives an answer is an excellent one. I think the Trump presidency is going to be a real test of the mettle of the free press: will they stand up to him, or will they crumble?

catgirl1976 · 17/02/2017 11:05

It was terribly written wasn't it? I struggled to understand a couple of the questions.

Literally unbelievable. But them so much of the current situation is and so many people just seem to be normalising it.

Scary!

BaggypantsCrimplesnitch · 17/02/2017 11:05

Not sure if this will work or not - if not I apologise...

It's good to see Obama standing up and speaking out. But could he actually DO anything?

Anybody?

minifingerz · 17/02/2017 11:05

I think people love Trump because he makes something very, very difficult - steering the richest and most powerful nation on earth - seem like a job almost anyone can do, no matter how ill-informed or incoherent. He makes them feel they can understand how the economy works, and how to govern.

originalbiglymavis · 17/02/2017 11:16

He doesn't baboozle by actually explaining anything remotely serious like the economy, international trade or the law. Not sure he actually understands these anyhow bus suspect he and his supporters find them boooooring. He is there to entertain.

He just says 'great', 'best', 'Its gonna be big'.

Arborea · 17/02/2017 11:20

Both the survey and the Obama video appear to be pretty election efforts so of little current relevance!

Arborea · 17/02/2017 11:21

Pre election! Ffs auto correct!

Lweji · 17/02/2017 11:22

Obama can't do anything, as such, but many people respect him and it is important to have as many voices as possible against what this Administration is doing.

'Trump signs bill undoing Obama coal mining rule'

He links to the news that actually says: "The stream protection rule was intended to protect waterways from mining waste"

It's as if he's telling people: I don't give a fuck about your waterways.

MoonriseKingdom · 17/02/2017 11:24

That survey is the most hilariously biased set of questions.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2017 11:24

Well he doesn't Lweji.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 11:28

Well he doesn't Lweji

I know, but in his place I'd try to hide it better. Not state it in a tweet. :)

Lweji · 17/02/2017 11:29

Has anyone noticed how in his still current campaign site, not only he's asking for donations, but if people want to make the donation automatically monthly? Hmm

woman12345 · 17/02/2017 11:38

but if people want to make the donation automatically monthly
I think he's taking a personal financial hit, at least temporarily, by being president. On November 9th he spoke wistfully of the money he's lost doing the campaign.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 11:39

But he decided not to take a salary. And he's profiting from god knows what deals with foreign countries and those stays at Mar-a-lago.

What it is is that he is and remains a con artist.

minifingerz · 17/02/2017 11:39
news: Trump made assertions which were untruths in his news conference.

The comments by angry Trump supporters on the video are priceless.

PausingFlatly · 17/02/2017 11:41

People whose support is based on his emotional schtick of "everyone else is the enemy and I'm your friend" may well continue to support him (until he visibly and directly hurts them; the moment their insurance is refused might do it).

I'd guess for a lot of those people, continued displays of My Man Winning Against Foes are not just acceptable, they're exactly the show those supporters are expecting to tune into.

Refusing to answer journalists' questions is a Win - that showed those foes what for haha. Never mind boring shit like running the country competently.

BTW, this is the schtick I see Farage and fans trying to pull in the UK, too. City Boy Nige is the Working Man's friend. Farage, who said the great thing about no longer being UKIP leader meant he didn't have to deal with menial UKIP officers he wouldn't want to share a pint with. Farage who thought Leave had lost halfway through the night, because the polls and chatter he was watching were from his City chums, not the people he was hoping were his followers.

Natsku · 17/02/2017 11:47

Did the survey - put my name as Donald Trump and gave the White House zip code Grin

PausingFlatly · 17/02/2017 11:52

That Fox video is pre-inauguration, minifingerz, so it's about another news interview where Trump didn't tell the truth.

I'm shocked. Shocked and appalled.

Lweji · 17/02/2017 12:03

I wonder if this guy is right about impeachment:

Lweji · 17/02/2017 12:03

this one, even

pinboard · 17/02/2017 12:04

hmm. no expert, re Cults - but I think similarities in:

Trump’s entire speech is loaded with “end times” rhetoric. He tells a tale of betrayal by the powerful elites — in the GOP, in the media and among the secret cabal of global special interests — who are conspiring to defeat him, the only person who can save our nation from the ultimate catastrophe.
So, a campaign fuelled by personal charisma (and raging narcissim), so it can only be him - the Messianic one.

Most worryingly, he is ALWAYS RIGHT (even when he is not, facts can be changed, Media is wrong, everyone else is a liar etc)

I think this is why his supporters are in a 'bubble' of denial, feeling isolated / separated from the rest of the world / a 'siege mentality' etc.

It's all really worrying.

He was doing this on the campaign trail in Oct. He is still doing it.

woman12345 · 17/02/2017 12:04

PausingFlatly I agree with your post. Resistance needs to be cannier.
