To not get these Pearl Parties

I see these 'pearl parties' on Facebook live all the time... I don't get it but people seem to be going nuts for them?
How does it work? Do any of you do them?

So when you climb higher up the pyramid, do you necome the Mother Of Pearl?

Danniejade76 · 16/02/2017 21:03

I am an admin on one of these facebook live pearl businesses and I fully understand why people may be suspicious of them or want to know a little more about them. The business I work for (for free) is run single handedly by a mother of three in west yorkshire as she 2 years ago couldnt leave her home due to social anxiety disorder and agoraphobia, so she set a goal to build her own business, confidence and believe in herself. Her business is registered and she is a UK tax payer. She wanted to still be able to look after and be there for her children while earning a full time wage. This lady is a member of a UK wholesalers where she can buy the genuine akoya oysters and stamped sterling silver jewellery out of her own pocket. All of the items she buys are made exclusively for this wholesalers and there is only a limited amount of memberships allowed. What happens is you go to her website and purchase an item of jewellery of your choice, from rings to neck chokers and many others. You then go to her facebook page and when she is next live she will notify you that your oyster(s) will be opened. You then choose which oyster you want and she will open it live to reveal the genuine akoya pearl or pearls (if you are lucky enough to get twins) and give you a rough value estimate depending on size and luster from between £20-£80 - this is for free to add value to the item of jewellery that you have purchased. This lady will then drill or set the pearls to the item of jewellery depending on what item you have purchased. All items are then shipped out within 14 working days.
I can see a lot of people arent too happy with these pearl parties and are saying that they are a 'scam' or 'fake'. While this may be true for a small amount of pearl parties, I can assure you that most of these businesses are run by genuine people trying to make a living.
All of the akoya oysters from this business are certified real with authentication.
This lady is a genuine lady trying to make a living for her and her family, the same as many other of these pearl ladies and gents.
This lady doesnt see her customers as just customers, she sees them are friends too. Lots of people do not purchase for whatever reason but still watch every party from start to finish because they enjoy joining in with the laugh that we all have. This lady is an amazing person and is there for anyone and everyone, and also runs a facebook support page for people with mental health disorders who need a friend. I understand that these pearl parties arent for everyone, but maybe some people are too quick to judge without hearing what these parties are all about.
As you can see I have not mentioned the name of the business as this is not about advertising - just giving people a bigger idea as to what they are about.

CaoNiMa · 16/02/2017 21:20

No, Danniejade. It's a pile of oystery bullshit.

OrangeIsTheNewPop · 16/02/2017 21:22

May I please steal "Oystery Bullshit " as my whatsapp status?

TinySalmon · 16/02/2017 21:25

Alright dannijade, pull the other one love.

Talidinozzo I think the fact they have to say THIS IS NOT AN MLM COMPANY says it all 😂

CaoNiMa · 16/02/2017 21:27

There's nothing else for it, Orange!

RubbishMantra · 16/02/2017 21:28

So it's a sort of charidee then?

BBTHREE76 · 16/02/2017 21:32

Wow! Sad you don't understand something - someone explains it to you and you call it "oystery bullshit". The OP said she didn't understand pearl parties so people have tried to explain it. Just cos you don't like something or don't get it doesn't mean it's bullshit.

1bighappyfamily · 16/02/2017 21:33

I'm with Orchideous

Drivel. Who buys into this bullshit?!

Danniejade76 · 16/02/2017 21:37

I seriously pity the people who are seemingly unable to read comments properly or refuse to acknowledge the point being made Confused

BBTHREE76 · 16/02/2017 21:40

Danniejade - Ditto!!! I can't believe you have gone to the trouble of explaining something which people here (including me) clearly don't understand yet still people have to have their comment

FuckOffDavid · 16/02/2017 21:42

I love it when the Bots show up.

JoanofNark17 · 16/02/2017 21:45

Sooooo, its NOT an MLM, just a regular business, but you work for free? People don't tend to do that with legitimate businesses?

jaggythistle · 16/02/2017 21:46

"Oystery bullshit" 😂😂😂

BBTHREE76 · 16/02/2017 21:46

Sorry if I look like I am ranting but I see it time and time again on Mumsnet (particularly AIBU obviously). There are 1001 things that I "don't get" and probably never will, but if someone takes the time to explain it then fair enough. I still might not get it, but I wouldn't attack them just for trying to explain what they feel.

BestZebbie · 16/02/2017 21:50

So, pearl oysters are usually farmed by implanting them with something to start off the pearl, then harvesting them a couple of years later and reseeding them to grow the next pearl. Several pearls can be taken from one oyster over its lifetime. Only a few pearls are actually valuable, most break even and a good portion are total rubbish.

Is this basically a way to get extra money out of the batch of oysters that are being harvested for the final time (perhaps on the assumption that they are less likely to have the valuable pearls/would have a higher percentage of the useless ones anyway)? If so, it is pretty smart marketing, as people will take away the waste product of the actual spent oyster for you too (as pearl oysters are a different animal to eating ones).

Danniejade76 · 16/02/2017 21:55

I work full time during the day then work for free a few evenings a week for live pearl parties that I was already watching for months beforehand and would have continued to watch anyway. Unlike some people I support small businesses and don't mind lending a hand to a lovely lady who is doing her best to provide for her family whilst having her own stuggles.

Danniejade76 · 16/02/2017 21:59

All akoya oysters from many of the businesses die a natural death after roughly two years and are then used. No akoya oysters are used twice as they only produce one or two pearls.

JoanofNark17 · 16/02/2017 22:08

I seriously pity the people who are seemingly unable to read comments properly or refuse to acknowledge the point being made confused

I think what you mean is that you are pissed off that we can see right through the bullshit and are warning people who otherwise might have bought your gubbins.

You can buy a bag of these dead oysters with planted freshwater pearls on ebay for less than 3 dollars each, and you are telling people they are worth up to 80 pounds.
It's fraud, plain and simple.

Bahh · 16/02/2017 22:09

There's a woman on my Facebook who is obsessed with it, she shares the streams five times a night every night (I assume there are competitions and you get a chance per share or something) with comments like 'OMG So excited to see what happens tonight 😍'.

It's an oyster luv, there's gonna be a pearl in it Hmm

Then she shares things like this

To not get these Pearl Parties
Bahh · 16/02/2017 22:12

Also wetting my pants at oystery bullshit. Brilliant.

PopGoesTheOysteryBullshit · 16/02/2017 22:14

You called?

Bahh · 16/02/2017 22:21

😂😂😂😂😂😂

BBTHREE76 · 16/02/2017 22:27

Wow! (Again)
Does the whole of Mumsnet think everything you don't understand must be "fraud".

To clarify - I haven't got a Facebook account and haven't seen a pearl party, but I don't like to see posters coming on here to give more info and be basically called conmen. I don't "get" organic veg - shall I go on a thread where people are explaining the benefits of it and call them all conmen? No issue with the OP, they said they didn't get it, but just don't get why the posters who given their view are made out to be fraudsters.

Danniejade76 · 16/02/2017 22:28

Freshwater pearls and akoya pearls are completely different 😂 try educating yourself before commenting and going out of your own way to look on ebay.
