When dh has Cereal he drinks the left over milk from the bowl after he finishes. Aibu to think that it's discusting and It's not right or is he to think it's OK and normal to do it?

Topseyt · 13/02/2017 21:52

I find drinking it from the bowl extremely civilised.

NotInMyBackYard1 · 13/02/2017 21:57

Its bad manners to drink milk from the bowl, along the same lines as licking the lids of yogurt pots and cutting bread rolls with knives. All from the etiquette guide of my Mother & Grandmother. It's ridiculous but I cannot avoid complying

AskBasil · 13/02/2017 21:58

YANBU

It's repellent.

If he must do it, he should do it in secret.

And feel shamed and soiled afterwards.

Like people who lick leftover gravy/ custard/ ice-cream

BumWad · 13/02/2017 21:58

The left over milk tastes soooooo good. Slurppp

Naicehamshop · 13/02/2017 22:00

Oh my God. I would kill him.

bouncydog · 13/02/2017 22:01

Totally gross and very bad manners! Would he behave like that in a hotel? If no, then why does he think it's o.k. at home. YANBU.

ijustwannadance · 13/02/2017 22:02

I put extra milk on so there is even more to slurp once the cereal has been eaten.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 13/02/2017 22:03

Fairly standard. You'd get on well with my DH who glares at me if he catches me doing it. I do it anyway as I'm such a rebel.

m0therofdragons · 13/02/2017 22:03

In France they have bowls with handles. When I stayed with a family in the alps, they would eat breakfast then pour chocolate milk into the bowls and everyone drinks from them. Genius, why make extra washing up?

londonrach · 13/02/2017 22:09

Indian...me too. No milk on cereal, never realised i wasnt the only one

StillSmallVoice · 13/02/2017 22:09

Mine does that but he generally has pretty high standards (he ALWAYS puts the toilet lid down. Lid. Not seat.) So I guess it must be OK.

Having said that he waited till we'd been married about three years.....

GerdaLovesLili · 13/02/2017 22:10

Left over milk is the best bit of the whole cereal eating thing. Yum Grin

Oldraver · 13/02/2017 22:18

What he needs is one of those freebie bowls Kellogs give out occasionally. They have a built in straw so you dont spill any of the milk

Chloe84 · 13/02/2017 22:19

It's not really gross, as in that milk that coated your cereal does not suddenly turn gross because the cereal has finished. But I know what you mean OP, I don't like left over cereal milk and I don't like to watch someone slurp it. I always have 2:1 cereal to milk ratio to avoid cereal milk.

Athome77 · 13/02/2017 22:21

Noooo you put the bowl on the floor for the cat and dog to share! It's the only time they drink out of the same bowl! If You don't let them have it they look all sad.

haveacupoftea · 13/02/2017 22:21

Its fine if he only does it in front of his family. At a hotel breakfast buffet or something ok YANBU

Verbena37 · 13/02/2017 22:30

It really annoys me when people pour more milk than they're prepared to drink, in the bowl then leave it in the bowl after eating mainly only the cereal. What a waste!
I drink the milk, having let my cereal go soggy, I usually drink it with a spoon, but occasionally from the bowl if I'm on my own.

Verbena37 · 13/02/2017 22:31

And crunchy nut cornflakes cereal milk that's all lovely and nutty is the best.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 13/02/2017 22:49

Why on earth would drinking out a bowl be considered "gross"? It's not great manners but unless you don't wash your bowls regularly, why is it any less hygienic than drinking out of a mug or a glass?

KoalaDownUnder · 14/02/2017 00:54

By 'gross', I meant manners. Not hygiene.

It's like licking your plate clean.

Ohdearducks · 14/02/2017 01:21

Knowing it's 'bad manners' just makes me want to slurp it even more and maybe even lick my plate too.Grin

isupposeitsverynice · 14/02/2017 01:28

It's only acceptable if the cereal in question is coco pops, otherwise it's just crumby warm milk and that is rank

ElderDruid · 14/02/2017 01:35

I'm with the drink is from the bowl group, there's nothing wrong with that as I assume the bowl will be washed after.

kiwigeekmum · 14/02/2017 01:48

My DH does this, and he's taught the DC to do it too. I think it's bad table manners, but not worth picking a fight over.

I put just enough milk in to only have a spoonful or two left over. (Unless it's cocoa pops, then I might make an exception, bad manners or not).

Topseyt · 14/02/2017 02:14

Of course it is fine at home and OK to do there.

I relax at home and do as I want. I don't have to behave there as I would if I were in a hotel and nor do my family. Yes, it is totally fine and not at all disrespectful.
