Yesterday came home to find a bit of folded-up paper wedged in a crack in the fence wall bit (pavement goes right past it). Opened it up to find 2x2p coins inside unrecognisable writing - see pic!

It mentions me?

dowhatnow · 11/02/2017 00:11

Somebody must be able to decipher it. Come on powers of mumsnet.

PhilODox · 11/02/2017 00:11

Can you say whereabouts you live? And what ethnicities people are that live in the area?
the 4p is somewhat strange, but maybe it's a child?

brooklyn66 · 11/02/2017 00:13

coffeejunkie123 I think you must be right. Reading 'top to bottom' makes most sense as that's more how you could naturally write, iyswim, and the letters all stay within the lines.

It isn't shorthand. Not Pitman shorthand anyway.

TyneTeas · 11/02/2017 00:17

Teeline shorthand...?

This could be a a geocache? If you google it should tell you all about it! Long shot but worth a try :)

CondensedMilkSarnies · 11/02/2017 00:21

It's got pin holes in the paper

MommaGee · 11/02/2017 00:21

Ooh definately dont read it out loud!!

Solo · 11/02/2017 00:23

Can you scan it and try google translate?

DJKKSlider · 11/02/2017 00:23

My vote....

Its a contract for a killing and the 2ps were to cover the eyes of the victim to pay the boatman to cross the river styxx.

Lock your doors op...

PennyPickle · 11/02/2017 00:25

Its definitely not a geocache. Very strange though and now I cant sleep. My brain is in overdrive....Thinking.....thinking

Timetogetup0630 · 11/02/2017 00:27

Anyone here who works at GCHQ?
Or the British Museum ? ( Rosetta Stone)

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 11/02/2017 00:27

Looks like a penance with the repetitive script and the money. Have you had anything broken randomly/recently? Don't know the language though, definitely not Kurdish as a pp suggested. Hope you find out soon, I'm intrigued!

brooklyn66 · 11/02/2017 00:29

inner-city area (UK), lots of ethnicities, beginning to think it's elaborate doodles though.
Not geocache but that does look intriguing!
Sorry to dump and dash but need to go to bed now - wifi keeps acting up anyway!

I'm sure I can read ... Let our __ for a sign..... how strange!!

Timetogetup0630 · 11/02/2017 00:30

Going to ask my nerdy son 17.....

PossibiliTea · 11/02/2017 00:32

I'm too intrigued. "What did you do sat night? Well...."

Rhayader · 11/02/2017 00:32

I've been a geocacher for many years and it is not a geocache.

PossibiliTea · 11/02/2017 00:33

Even though it's Friday night. Sorry. Tired.

girlelephant · 11/02/2017 00:33

This is so strange! Hmm

brooklyn66 · 11/02/2017 00:34

(I think if you rotate picture 2 180 degrees so the looping 'L's are at the top and read vertically top to bottom it looks most like doodles.) (Hope I haven't offended a nation by describing their language as such!)

SemiNormal · 11/02/2017 00:35

Maybe post it here www.reddit.com/r/languagelearning/

Ladybirdbookworm · 11/02/2017 00:35

Blatantly place marking

It's like an episode of Only Connect

ReapAndSow · 11/02/2017 00:36

Maybe some sort of east European language?
