What on earth is this? (Found outside my house)

Yesterday came home to find a bit of folded-up paper wedged in a crack in the fence wall bit (pavement goes right past it). Opened it up to find 2x2p coins inside unrecognisable writing - see pic!

It does look like its upside down but don't recognise the alphabet its written in (if it even is one). Strange though. I do know someone who liked to write cryptic notes and post them in odd places for people to find. Perhaps its something like that.

shggg245 · 10/02/2017 23:39

Is it written with a pen, it's very neat? How peculiar. Weird.

SilverBirchWithout · 10/02/2017 23:39

Looks like a type of spell to me.

Have you crossed any witches recently? Grin

SalemSaberhagen · 10/02/2017 23:39

Perhaps it is diseases, and I am double bluffing you. Now, to inhabit Gordy again!

brooklyn66 · 10/02/2017 23:41

The paper was folded all around the 2p coins and folded in half and wedged into a big crack in the concrete at the bottom of our railings. I thought probably just kids trying out code writing or something! We do get school kids going past.

Anyway probably not much to report as this was yesterday afternoon and it was still there this afternoon.

Nursery gave us a red envelope with a chocolate coin in it for Chinese New Year so did wonder if it was something to do with that! But bit of a stretch...

We need Jonathan Creek

I've googled it and can't find anything? Very strange!

Maybe ask a neighbour if they know anything about it, has anyone in your area seen anyone do it/cctv etc?

SquarePegRoundHole · 10/02/2017 23:42

Is it one of those Geo stash things where people search for buried treasure'?

coffeejunkie123 · 10/02/2017 23:42

If you turn the page by 90 degrees it looks like a very fluently written oriental language written top to bottom. The words are in the middle of the lines.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 10/02/2017 23:42

It looks like it's been written right to left, as the words begin neatly on top of one another on the right hand side. I wonder if it's cursive handwritten Hebrew?

starsorwater · 10/02/2017 23:43

It looks Russian, I think

TooSmittle · 10/02/2017 23:43

Oooh intriguing. Can you take a clearer photo of the writing? Just a small section might be easier. I've no idea what it might be but I'd like a better look, see if it's in any sense decipherable or recognisable.

coffeejunkie123 · 10/02/2017 23:43

Nursery celebrate New Year? Are you in a strongly Far East area?

peaceloveandbiscuits · 10/02/2017 23:43

Having said that, I agree with coffee and the coins and it being Chinese New Year do add up.

Onemorewonthurt · 10/02/2017 23:44

It looks like the same sentence over and over to me Confused

PhilODox · 10/02/2017 23:44

That looks like Ethiopian writing... pretty hard to tell, as picture is vv small on my phone.

Keeptrudging · 10/02/2017 23:44

Is it shorthand? There are particular long lines/loops/short lines which remind me of it, people develop their own particular style.

PossibiliTea · 10/02/2017 23:45

It's odd if it's kids though because it's neat, in paragraphs and looks like they are some sort of words it looks like it's got a meaning.

Watch now it's going to turn out to be nothing, someone blocking a hole in the fence or something lol

LittlePear91 · 10/02/2017 23:45

It looks like the same thing written over and over again- look at the beginning and ends of each line!

Intrigued, hope someone can shed some light!

Weird! It couldn't be shorthand could it? When my mum writes with it it looks like total gobbledygook!

Amithenormalone · 10/02/2017 23:45

Showed my dh the picture he says it look like some sort of ancient handwriting

brooklyn66 · 10/02/2017 23:46

Nursery celebrate any day, we had a koala and kitchen-roll-tube didgeridoo for Australia Day...
I might go and fish it out again and take a better pic.

A lot of crossposting there re shorthand!

BarFlyInThePeanuts · 10/02/2017 23:47

They have written it with the paper upside down. Look where the margin is. Otherwise if you put the margin in the right place the letters are hanging off the lines.

icelolly99 · 10/02/2017 23:48

Mm, how old are the 2p's? Do you think it's been there a long time? Intriguing!
