DH has bought me one as a surprise, it's just a random letter and number followed by my initials (wasn't mega expensive)

But I'm just not sure about it! He thinks it's the best gift ever 😳 But he says we can just not register it and sell it on if I don't want it. I don't want to be ungrateful but what's the general consensus? Are they for twats or not?

OP I think YABU in consulting MN to determine what to make of a gift from your DH. You either appreciate it or you don't.

My DH and DD bought me one for my birthday, it's X?0 ???. DD was delighted to tell me the X was a kiss, with the number representing my age on said birthday, followed by my initials. I love it purely for the sentiment, therefore I do not give a flying feck what anyone thinks of it, it's not intended for anyone else's amusement or enjoyment Grin

We had a car stolen, and when it was replaced DH got his first (£48) private plate to hide the fact it was brand new and so less likely to be stolen. That plate meant something to us and has been passed through many cars since.
I am getting a new car and my initials are going on it too. I didn't particularly want one but it makes DH happier, so I'm joining the naff club too.

Pinkponiesrock · 08/02/2017 18:58

We got not just one but three Grin and virtually every member of both sides of our family have them too. We live in an area of the country that apparently has the highest number of private number plates by head of population. You stand out for not having one round here. I would say almost half the people who park at our school have a private plate.

Astoria7974 · 08/02/2017 19:16

The PAT4L plate a friend was bought and thought naff and so got rid off (her name is Pat her husband is called Len) is worth hundreds of thousands now because it's a decent match to Patel. I'd keep it if I were you and sell it on in a few years.

maisiejones · 08/02/2017 19:17

I drove home tonight behind a car with a woman driver and a number plate that said MILFF. Why the fuck would any woman think it amusing/impressive to go out in public with that label attached?

Astoria7974 · 08/02/2017 19:22

Milff is a compliment around where I live.

BettyOBarley · 08/02/2017 19:24

Yes naff I'm afraid.

I saw one once on the motorway, it was a Bentley and the number plate was U W1SH
Made me chuckle. What a plonker.

RocketQueenP · 08/02/2017 19:25

Yuk at "milf" 😷

Y1DS

U W1SH

Seeing as neither of these plates exist, I think you must be mistaken!

bunnylove99 · 08/02/2017 20:19

Ah, a 'vanity plate' debate. I would never by one either but if your OH has gifted you one it would seem unkind not to use it.

BettyOBarley · 08/02/2017 20:31

Well I might have got the combination of letters/numbers wrong then as it was a long time ago but that's definitely what it said !

selfishcrab · 08/02/2017 20:40

DH bought mine years ago and still retains it even though it's not on my car.
Our company vehicles have pp's.
DH's doesn't because the number plate it came with is funny (by pure chance).
A friend had a plate 5exy, she was a 70 plus year old woman with sass and it suited her :)

dazzlingdeborahrose · 08/02/2017 20:43

I have two but there not obviously private plates. Look like normal plates but have my initials and hubby's initials. The second best thing about them is I never have to remember another registration for the rest of my life. The best thing about them is the pain it causes car sales staff when I make them put my twelve year old registration on a brand new car Grin

scrivette · 08/02/2017 20:48

Not only do all of mine match, but one of them is an Audi!

I do have an irrational dislike of the 'powered by fairy dust' signs though and as for the cars with eyelashes... just why? Shock

HughJarss · 09/02/2017 08:58

Might have been YIIDS. I actually took a picture of it but I can't find it, but I assure you it's real. West Essex area.

brummiesue · 09/02/2017 09:02

I have my name, and a range rover, I am neither naff or a twat, just love nice cars Smile

QuinionsRainbow · 09/02/2017 13:15

Might have been YIIDS.
Don't think that one can exist, either.

QuinionsRainbow · 09/02/2017 13:17

U W1SH
Could only be a (deliberately) badly laid out UVV 15 H

Monkeybunkey · 09/02/2017 14:00

Y1 IDS exists, I've seen it around Tottenham on match day.

augustbody · 09/02/2017 14:06

I'm all about a frivolous purchase, but t I honestly don't get the point of personalised number plates. Just..... Why?

HughJarss · 09/02/2017 14:26

That's the one, monkey. Angry

limitedperiodonly · 09/02/2017 14:38

Y1 IDS exists, I've seen it around Tottenham on match day.

I can believe it. A Spurs supporting Jewish friend calls himself a member of the Yid Army. Other Jewish people don't like it. I'm not Jewish and don't use it, but I wouldn't to tell Jews what they should or shouldn't call themselves.

augustbody · 09/02/2017 16:36

I know loads of Spurs supporters, both Jewish and not, who refer to the 'Yid Army'. Didn't the supporters tell the police a couple of years ago that they didn't want supporters to be arrested for chanting it or something, because they were using it 'affectionatly?'

DaveMinion · 09/02/2017 16:59

My DH has one. I think they are a bit twatty lol.

There is someone near where we live with UD03 SUM. That is just gross and creepy.

Wheresthattomoibabber · 09/02/2017 17:11

I saw DW 02 DUD today. Bought with divorce settlement?
