Honest opinion, am I too old for jeans with rips at the knee?

As my username suggests, I am 50. I posted a wee while ago about jeans sizings. I've just got a pair delivered from Next and they fit a treat. However, they have rips at the knees. Would I be a bit mutton dressed as lamb wearing them?

I have it on good authority from my 12 year old that ripped at the knee jeans are soooooo last year.

You need to return those jeans to next and go shopping for "destroyed" jeans.

And stop all this mutton and 50 nonsense. How are you supposed to rock a look when you're anxious about what other people think?

f83mx · 05/02/2017 14:09

nah its fine x

LIZS · 05/02/2017 14:09

If you are not a teen or student then YES!

PleasantPhesant · 05/02/2017 14:10

I wear them I'm in my thirties.
Couldn't give a Phesants' Hoot what anyone thinks

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 05/02/2017 14:11

If they look alright then do what you want.

Magzmarsh · 05/02/2017 14:11

I'm 51 and wouldn't wear them but I actually don't think they look good on anyone.

NataliaOsipova · 05/02/2017 14:11

Are you over 21? Sorry.....but then I wouldn't wear them! (but I am a bit of a frump...)

TheCatsMother99 · 05/02/2017 14:12

Age is just a number. Wear what you want.

Ripped jeans are everywhere at the moment and they're getting more and more ripped as time passes, it's hard to avoid them nowadays!

mickeyjohn · 05/02/2017 14:12

What are 'destroyed' jeans?

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 05/02/2017 14:12

50yo here and wearing them right now !!!!

tricornel · 05/02/2017 14:14

30s here. Ripped jeans (hard earned wear and tear rips - not bought already broken!) and band t shirts are my uniform. I sometimes try to dress like a grown up but feel so daft - like I'm playing at dressing up Grinfuckit. Wear what you want! Bet you look great!

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/02/2017 14:14

2 women in my family in their 40's wear them, one is 48 one 45ish but both look fabulous in them, even the ones with the glittery material under the rips. If the jeans are a good fit i'd personally keep them, although i'd probably stitch lace or some other interesting fabric under the rips to make a different look than just holes. Keep you warmer too :P

bumblebee50 · 05/02/2017 14:17

I do like them actually and think they look ok. I don't feel 50 but then I'm sure no one feels as old as they actually are.

Everyone is too old for "ripped at the knee" jeans. Unless you're too poor to buy new ones Wink

Floisme · 05/02/2017 14:25

I detest ready-ripped jeans, particularly when they're skin tight and it looks as if your legs are bursting through. But nothing to do with age, I just think they look ghastly and if you like them then crack on. But please don't call yourself 'mutton' - women are not pieces of meat.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/02/2017 14:28

I'd wear them, but then I'm currently wearing my teenagers pokemon coat so probably not the best person to advise

olliegarchy99 · 05/02/2017 14:30

jeans are fine - I wear skinny jeans and boots at 70 yo but would never, ever wear ripped jeans unless said rips were the result of wear and tear (as it were).
Personally I don't like to see any age person with ripped jeans when to me it is a symbol of being unable to mend clothes or buy a new pair - a poverty thing - but that is just my opinion. Hmm

pasturesgreen · 05/02/2017 14:32

Yes, you are, sorry!

GrumpyOldBag · 05/02/2017 14:36

yes, sorry.

I'm 53 and wouldn't wear them.

ForalltheSaints · 05/02/2017 14:37

Everyone is too old for them. Horrid fashion if it still is.

Mindtrope · 05/02/2017 14:39

I am older than you OP.

I wear jeans a lot. Most of them have holes at the knees.

I don't give a shit what people think.

AnyFucker · 05/02/2017 14:40

I am in my 50's and stopped wearing pre ripped jeans years ago

I have a couple of well worn pairs that are fraying a bit on the knee and thigh but that seems OK to me

meg54 · 05/02/2017 14:42

Anyone over the age of 6 should not wear ripped jeans.

Ditto furry animals hanging off handbag straps or keychains.

Dontjudgeme1 · 05/02/2017 14:44

Wear what you like. As previous p said, age is nothing , but a number!
