Just out of curiosity really because she and her voice make me cringe when i hear her on tv or radio.

Love scots though please don't get me wrong.

it's the rabid twats with extreme views that get airtime Yes, we are now back to NS! I know that's not what you meant but I can't resist it.

dementedma · 04/02/2017 18:13

I hate the way female politicians have to endure comments about their hair, clothes make up etc. So to redress that balance can I say that I dislike Nicola Sturgeon's policies intensely. Wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw a clootie dumpling. But, due to my line of work, I have met her several times and she is always immaculately groomed, smartly turned out and looks fab.
Does that help?

SheSparkles · 04/02/2017 18:18

Can't stand her or her politics

SpangledBoots · 04/02/2017 18:24

I get that she's focused on her cause and I do think she comes across as quite direct compared with other politicians.

As a non-Scot living in Scotland, however, I struggle to fully respect her because I don't see her or her party putting the bulk of their energies into anything other than a drive for independence (or whatever the next best thing is).

As it stands for me, she makes me feel unwelcome but is happy to take my money.

Nothing about her represents me which is unfortunate because I think she'd achieve so much more if she didn't lead a one issue party.

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 04/02/2017 18:26

Wankers Grin but out of all the politicians with extreme views (Farage and Trump being the most high profile I can think of) she's nowhere near as scary!

watfordmummy · 04/02/2017 18:27

Nope she's a joke!!

WankersHacksandThieves · 04/02/2017 18:41

Saor. I disagree, I think she is worse as she pretends to take the moral high ground whilst also allowing no dissent of any kind. I find her sleekit and deceitful. I don't find trump or farage the same. they are truly awful but what you see is what you get, the aren't trying to hide or coerce their supporters into complete compliance.

Spangled agree, It's like we are paying her to run the country but she is spending most of her time pursuing a cause instead.

It would be like me spending my time at work campaigning for the local council while being paid to a job for my company.

Scaffleen · 04/02/2017 18:46

I think she's great. I voted no, I always hated the SNP but I'm so glad she's our first minister. In my opinion she's the only one who has Scotland's best interests at heart. I was devastated after brexit. Scotland has no voice and never has. I'll vote yes next time. She's a civic nationalist and I think a lot of people misunderstand and believe she's a ethnic nationalist. Unfortunately SNP are still plagued by a small proportion of ethnic nationalists who give it a bad name.

Olddear · 04/02/2017 18:51

She's just Alex Salmond in a dress and jacket. They even have the same mannerisms. And I really, really dislike Alex Salmond.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/02/2017 19:13

I also wanted to say that whenever any of these threads come up indy or SNP supporters always come on and instantly go on the defence saying tell me why the union is so good etc but the thing is we aren't trying to make massive changes to your way of life therefore we don't have to. If you are pro union and not going to vote yes you are likely to be happy or not massively unhappy with the status quo therefore we don't need to give you a counter argument

Yes, exactly, I'm happy with the Union. It's up to them to convince me why I should break that up. Never heard any convincing arguments.

Calyx72 · 04/02/2017 19:22

Brexit is going to be a massive change to Scotland's way of life.

nooddsocksforme · 04/02/2017 19:33

havnt read the whole thread (17 pages) . I think Nicola is an intelligent capable politician , and sadly there are very few people who could be described in that way nowadays. However her constant preoccupation with having another referendum in Scotland when it is patently obvious that financially its the wrong time gets on my nerves . I would love an independent Scotland but we are not quite ready. They also cave in too easily to local issues and need to be more ballsy and less parochial

Yes of course Brexit is going to be a huge change but just remember back in 2014 there was no grantee an indy Scotland would gain membership to the EU but many people were okay with that being a possibility and a risk worth taking but now it isn't a risk worth taking for Britain and poor wee Scotland is being dragged out of the EU even though 1m Scotst voted to leave Hmm

FoofFighter · 04/02/2017 20:44

No I don't like her very much. I don't vote SNP. ignores that not everyone living in Scotland is Scottish and we also have a vote and a view!!

CaraAspen · 04/02/2017 20:45

"FoofFighter

Oh jolly good.

http://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/top-stories/brexitwilllwipeukkoutoffhistoryittwillnoolongerbeetheukk14873001

Brexit is the material change Nicola Sturgeon is talking about. If she didn't keep on about it she wouldn't be fulfilling her mandate.

WankersHacksandThieves · 04/02/2017 21:20

Hmm so if Brexit will be catastrophic for Britain (a smaller entity leaving a larger one) Why would Independent Scotland (a smaller entity leaving a larger one) be good for Scotland?

Why is being governed in conjunction with 3 other counties a worse thing than being governed by a body of countries that we don't get a vote in? I'm ignoring MEPs as they are about as useful as a chocolate teapot and more remote than westminster MPs.

I'm not seeing any logic.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/02/2017 21:22

Wankers what you state is your interpretation of the facts, other will see themselves differently, and you will never agree with each other Wink

WankersHacksandThieves · 04/02/2017 21:22

she wouldn't be fulfilling her mandate.

But she isn't fulfilling any mandate in relation to running her parliament properly and the promises made to sort out poverty and social justice and education etc etc etc.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/02/2017 21:22

Them, not themselves

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/02/2017 21:23

But she isn't fulfilling any mandate in relation to running her parliament properly and the promises made to sort out poverty and social justice and education etc etc etc.

Again, in your opinion.

WankersHacksandThieves · 04/02/2017 21:25

That's true it'sAll why don't they realise that their interpretation is wrong though? Wink

I may not like it, but I go along with the majority decision. Unfortunately not everyone thinks like that and just wants to manipulate things to their own ends and agenda.

Calyx72 · 04/02/2017 21:25

I think she (or Scotgov) are running the country better than Labour ever did and better than the Tories would.

The EU doesn't govern and wouldn't be taking ALL Scotland's money and handing a percentage of it back (and then allowing the media to demonise Scotland for that)

cheeseandcrackers77 · 04/02/2017 21:26

Well can I also say she stood in the GE of 2015 saying a vote for the SNP is not a vote for independence knowing full well a referendum on the EU was coming.
To be frank she manipulated the remain vote in Scotland by saying if England votes leave and Scotland votes remain then that would tiger indy 2. Would be very interesting to know what the vote would have been if she hadn't said that.
