Out of interest, ami. Has anyone assessed - by some means - how permanent these Issues are likely to be? I would have thought that views about potential immigration problems and American 'hospitality'' could persist for a very very long time.

I predict that if the numbers of US soldiers returning home in dignified transfers increases, Trump and his team will manage to spin it to their advantage, even if those deaths are due to poorly planned operations and shoddy intelligence. They will use the bodies of dead soldiers as a patriotic rallying point to justify whatever security measures, or military escalation they deem necessary. They will spin it so that anyone who criticises their plans is being disrespectful to the memory of the dead.

I really dread to think what will happen if a US soldier is captured by Daesh - the footage generated by that would give them the excuse for whatever escalation they wanted, and you just know that Trump would tweet a link to the terrorist's barbaric footage.
Sorry to get so dark so soon on the thread. Sad

I can well believe some people would say that. On Twitter, you can see people's profiles. One guy I saw was a US Marine officer. Picture in his uniform. Member of NRA. Proud Republican. God fearing. Pro -Life. Anti socialist. A walking, talking stereotype.

Meanwhile. Beyonce is pregnant so that's a nice distraction for some papers.

On the way home, I just wondered what home life was like as war was developing. It's amazing how things are going in as normal, trivial things are being reported etc.

It makes me wonder too what life was like during WW2. There were battles being fought but at home, people were working, The economy was running. Adverts were being made. Life went on - although the war obviously affected everyone.

I didn't expect to have these thoughts so soon after Trump was inaugarated.

It amazes me there are still people out there in the NRA, god-fearing etc.
I'm aware I am lucky in that I'm in the most liberal city in the states, I'm white, working and with a very Western sounding name.
Unfortunately, there are SO many people here who are not. And its really fucking unfair. Soon to get worse for them, no doubt.

Hopefully you'll be allowed here and back home to Australia. Australia and the UK are allies. Even though you gave us Kylie and Jason Grin . We have a very strong bond - and I bloody well hope Theresa May recognises that.
