Appalling that these things can be laughed off, like when Laura Kuenssberg questioned Theresa May on how Trump's stance on terror is alarming for UK citizens, and Trump made a joke out of it then May laughed it off.

Wtf is funny about this? It makes me feel physically sick

cozietoesie · 03/02/2017 19:41

There are a great many people who actually believe, as Gospel, what the National Enquirer writes. I wouldn't knock yourself, M0stly. Smile

amispartacus · 03/02/2017 19:41

They passed it off as a joke

There are so many things that people believe because they want to believe it. You see it on here.

Sources should be checked. Polls checked. Data checked. Fact checked. References checked.

There are plenty of people who will REPEATEDLY say the same thing about a group as it suits their narrative.

I do wonder how many posters on MN are from places which try to undermine people, split groups and promote division.

Ch 4 news seems v odd this evening. The Turkish 'coup', seemed a very un coup y to have it live on terrestrial TV and other things seemed weird about it. BBC has been like Lord haw haw for years.

Guess what, poll wants Barack back.

I've said before, there are some posters on the Trump and other political threads who are apparently so passively supine that I've met stromatolites with more get-up-and-go.

amispartacus · 03/02/2017 19:49

So......The Dodd-Frank rule on Wall St.

Seems like it involves regulation on Wall St and banks and lending....
And the regulations are being 'relaxed' - the ones introduced by Obama.

Any economists got any comments on this?

amispartacus this thread is such a relief after that frankly ill sounding claig poster on previous trump thread, who I presume was being paid for posting evil rubbish. It's a funny old business all of this.
MN has become a political medium. I suppose like the old communist party you'd get spies, agents provocateurs and informers. We have our own special mn ones. Interesting times.

amispartacus · 03/02/2017 19:56

I'm confused about Australia.

Trump called the deal stupid and said so on Twitter.

Then:

At a National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, Mr Trump said people should not be worried about the "tough phone calls" he had had with world leaders like Mr Turnbull and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Taking to Twitter on Friday night, he then switched to calling the conversation "very civil".

"Thank you to Prime Minister of Australia for telling the truth about our very civil conversation that FAKE NEWS media lied about," Mr Trump said. "Very nice!"

Or was it a heated exchange?

I really really hope Spicer learns it's Turnbull, not Trunbull. Or Trumble

Still haven't caught up (still need a summary!) but thought you would appreciate this from the town a few over from me. I think they are hoping it will be popular!

Indeed. It would be interesting to see who was behind the keyboard.

Well that's just unfair, IWish. Don't they know that Ralph C Nesbitt's combover is real! Grin

M0stlyHet · 03/02/2017 20:04

Oh there are definitely astroturfers on here. I have a subject I have a professional interest in (and a rule never to post on - because I keep my professional and mumsnet lives separate, beyond saying very broadly that I'm a research scientist) and you can definitely see paid astroturfers at work. (In fact books have been written by award winning journalists on the astroturfing industry in that area!)

itsawonderfulworld · 03/02/2017 20:07

Can't keep up with you guys so maybe this has been posted already, but it's too brilliant not to share again:

Move over Netherlands, it's definitely Switzerland second!

If you liked the Dutch clip (or even if you didn't) you absolutely have to watch this. It's the best ad. Oh yes. It's big. Gonna be yuge!

cozietoesie · 03/02/2017 20:09

Now that was a meaning of a word I had to look up. Smile

Destinysdaughter · 03/02/2017 20:10

Ooh how do you know if a pp is an "astroturfer"? Never even heard that term before!!

Claig was vv odd indeed. I reported her posts a few time as I felt she was spouting propaganda but her rabid posts were allowed to stand. She seemed unhinged. So do we now think she was a paid propagandist?

Chilling...😱

cozietoesie · 03/02/2017 20:10

The Swiss 'Second' video was my favourite. Smile

PseudoBadger · 03/02/2017 20:11

On PM tonight, where they are doing a feature on the first 100 days of The Donald, he was discussed in a comedic manner.

Destinysdaughter · 03/02/2017 20:12

Yes, Switzerland vid was already posted as was Germany, Belgium, Portugal and Lithuania! But they're so good, always worth posting them again in case pp have missed them 😀

Lweji · 03/02/2017 20:12

I suspect a few popping in other threads atm.

GingerIvy · 03/02/2017 20:13

I'll admit to not knowing what astroturfing in this sense is either. Confused

amispartacus · 03/02/2017 20:14

Astroturf
Nudge politics
Divide and rule
Gaslighting
Cognitive bias
Confirmation bias

I love talking to my Dad about this. He hasn't really heard of many of these.

I assume everyone on this thread can be trusted and has no agenda.......

  1. After repeatedly lying to the public about Iran's own money returned to them, Trump announced sanctions on Iran today, pleasing Netanyahu
  2. Kushner-architected provocation of Iran, which Trump teased during the campaign, is now in full swing
  3. Kushner-directed Iran sanctions have 2 key goals: (a) Boost family friend Netanyahu whose views on settlements align with the Kushners
  4. (b) Sanctions are meant to help Russia by forcing Tehran back into Moscow's orbit while increasing oil prices
cozietoesie · 03/02/2017 20:16

Assume nothing, ami. Do your homework and speak honestly. That's about all you can do. Smile

amispartacus · 03/02/2017 20:16

Ok...own up.

"State-sponsored internet sockpuppetry is a government's use of paid internet propagandists with the intention of swaying online opinion, undermining dissident communities, or changing the perception of what is the dominant view (often via astroturfing)"

I wonder how many DM comments reflect the real view.

The Independent comments section is amazing - so trolly.
