I'm not a prude but really?

To think this window display is inappropriate?

Meh I'm not an ice cream or paperchase fan so I'd most likely walk past without so much as a second glance.

Anyone who starts a sentence with "I'm not a prude but..." is a fucking prude! Non-prudish people don't have to try to convince others & themselves that they are not!

CockacidalManiac · 01/02/2017 15:10

I was so disgusted I put my foot through the window, and sent Paperchase the bill.

TheAntiBoop · 01/02/2017 15:19

It's a pretty easy one to explain to a 7yo I would have thought. It's an ice cream and you lick ice creams so just a silly poster.

I've had to try and explain much worse than that!!

SherlockPotter · 01/02/2017 15:28

How is it inappropriate? It's an ice cream cone... that way it keeps the children and adults happy without all the special snowflakes whinging!

But fair play to Paperchase, they had to remove the 'inappropriate' valentines card (even though they were on the top shelf and clearly labelled they were rude).

wonkylegs · 01/02/2017 15:40

Doesn't bother me in the slightest
Kids won't get it or care (I have an inquisitive 8yo so I know the pain of the many many questions that get asked all the time, but I don't think this is a problem)

JustSpeakSense · 01/02/2017 15:43

It's cheeky, made me smile.

If a younger child asked...well it's about licking ice creams obviously.

Life's too short to get worked up about things like this fgs

AssassinatedBeauty · 01/02/2017 15:44

I don't mind it at all. It's a cheesy joke that children won't get, there's nothing offensive visually.

JustSpeakSense · 01/02/2017 15:45

I'm not a prude

...yes dear Grin

grumpypuss · 01/02/2017 15:46

YANBU.

Unnecessary. It wouldn't go over the head of my dc (7) who would say that it doesn't make grammatical sense and ask why it says Lick me until ice-cream. It's krass, I can't stand ads drawing unnecessarily on sexual innuendo. Somebody licking somebody else until they scream is really not what I like to be reminded of when doing my buying pens and birthday cards or just walking past a PC shop window.

Anyway PC is overpriced and probably desperately trying to appeal to their various customer segments.

Not sure how well they are doing currently but they failed to be bought last year.

"Paperchase, the upmarket greetings card chain, has taken itself off the market after failing to fetch the right price from bidders.
The retailer, which has 130 UK stores and outlets overseas including in the United Arab Emirates, France and Germany, had been put up for sale by its private equity owners last year for around £150m.
Rival retailer Card Factory, which listed last year, was understood to have considered making a bid for Paperchase. US private equity firm Paladin was also reported to be interested in the business as well as Quilvest, the owner of Yo!Sushi, which manages the wealth of Switzerland's Bemberg family."

as i said yanbu.

FreedomMummy · 01/02/2017 15:52

I don't have too much of an issue with the window display as the pun will go over kids heads and none of the words are rude or crude.
However, the other link to the cards I do have massive issue with as my 5 yr old can read all the words and I don't want to have to try and explain some of that to her yet.
Equally YANBU for not liking it necessarily as that is personal preference.

Maudlinmaud · 01/02/2017 16:06

CockacidalManiac Grin

pipsqueak25 · 01/02/2017 16:11

i find such things rather pathetic, it's hardly funny so why bother ?

SherlockPotter · 01/02/2017 16:15

pipsqueak because people have a different sense of humour to you? I giggled (out loud) when I saw this at my local Paperchase earlier...

QuimReaper · 01/02/2017 16:16

It doesn't offend me, but I find this kind of weak grubby innuendo marketing really tacky. For some reason it's particularly bad when it's greetings cards. It sort of falls into the category of Simpsons Porn for me - it just isn't funny enough, and I think it's the kind of thing my Uncle Ken would like, and I somehow can't unsee it.

To be fair though, I'd probably not especially register this: it's not in the same league as those I LOVE ANAL cards they pulled.

TarragonChicken · 01/02/2017 16:23

Doesn't bother me in the least.

I'm not a prude...
We may have to disagree on that.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 01/02/2017 16:24

I file this under 'things that make me eye roll and say 'Ew'.

Tacky, boring, innuendo describes it pretty well too.

Only1scoop · 01/02/2017 16:25

Saw it the other day
My 6 year old would see an Ice Cream saying 'lick me'
Nowt to explain

SamineShaw · 01/02/2017 16:29

Yeah so perhaps I am a bit of a prude but I've nothing against innuendo in the right company and context (my office is rife with it!!). I do still think it's a bit much for a high street window 🙂

Kids won't get it! ( took me a bit too get it Grin )

JamieXeed74 · 01/02/2017 16:48

If it had said, "smear me over a body, then lick me", you might have had a point but its an ice cream cone. You lick ice cream cones. YABU and Pruddish.

grumpypuss · 01/02/2017 16:48

"For some reason it's particularly bad when it's greetings cards. It sort of falls into the category of Simpsons Porn for me - it just isn't funny enough, and I think it's the kind of thing my Uncle Ken would like, and I somehow can't unsee it."
^YY cringe, yuck. I agree this sort of 'joke' appeals to some who find it witty and appealing. Everyone is different, however. It's just the times we live in sexting, porn all omnipresent. In my opinion this sort of ever present sexual innuendo can put a lot of pressure on young people and, in the end of the day, it is just an ad to sell stuff, not a poster for a Tantra workshop so it's drawing on sex for a commercial purpose. It really is a cheap shot fwiw. I accept that others find it cool and funny.

Lehinch · 01/02/2017 16:51

I think it's gross.

pipsqueak25 · 01/02/2017 17:46

sherlock, yes many people will have a different sense of humour to me, that's okay but i find this sort of so called humour up there with little kids giggling over words like 'wee wee' and 'bum', hey, i might be considered a prude i'm cool with that.Smile

Shammz · 07/02/2017 22:15

I think it's disgusting. Subliminally focusing on attracting children to this vulgarity. I've made an official complaint to Paperchase. Angry

SamineShaw · 08/02/2017 06:50

I was beginning to think I was the only one! Let me know how you get on Shammz, I got no reply 😡
