Because 24 hours is a long time in US politics

I can't open that News Shopper article, for some reason, Zebra, but if you get the News Shopper, you're not far from me, and I am pleased to say that my Tory MP was one who spoke against the ban in parliament.

FuzzyWizard · 01/02/2017 07:01

These threads are great. They are just about keeping me sane.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 01/02/2017 07:01

Thanks for keeping us all updated.
The othering that is taking place is very worrying. Surely, Farage can't get in?? Who on earth would vote for him now? His supporters during Brexit must realise he told a pack of lies.

HardcoreLadyType · 01/02/2017 07:05

That Danish ad is lovely. It's got me in tears.

BigBadgers · 01/02/2017 07:11

Nice new thread for a new day of crazy!

Does Gorsuch still need to go through the senate for approval?

TheDrsDocMartens · 01/02/2017 07:23

Way behind on this. Can't keep up at all.

Anyone seen the tv comedy Braindead? It's very close to reality now ...

NoCryingInEngineering · 01/02/2017 07:33

Finally got to the end of a thread in time to comment!

Gorsuch will still need senate approval I think. Last night was just the big Candidate Reveal wasn't it? I have no idea what he is like in terms of constitutional law position, which is likely to be important, though he's almost certainly a 'pick the bits of the Bible that suit me' religious nut-nut.

The thing that really blows my brain up about US politics is its tendency to descend into competitive religious hardlining. Which of course has no similarities to anything currently going on in certain other countries of a different religious persuasion. .....

And sorry to disappoint boldly, but I think many Farage supporters feel quite comfortable with what's going on and just wish May was being quicker to get on with it. And will blame any less than optimum outcomes on the delay or anything else they are told to

Timetogetup0630 · 01/02/2017 07:35

Morning folks.
I too have become thread obsessed.
Feeling very gloomy today and I am reluctant to get out of bed.....

Cheered up by that Danish video though.

Lweji · 01/02/2017 07:39

Sorry if someone has posted this as I haven't been able to completely keep up, but Angry

Patriot Barbie asking for journalists to be fired! Bigly SAD.
Dangerous times.

M0stlyHet · 01/02/2017 07:40

Yes Gorsuch needs senate approval but the most the democrats can do is filibuster.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2017 07:42

I think the best way to not get dragged down by it, is to try and come out fighting and kicking - in a peaceful, non aggressive sort of way. Attending marches, getting involved in politics, writing letters, organizing groups and action.

But duvet days are also needed. Especially if you can step away from the news for a day or two. I'm contemplating maybe nominating Sunday's as no news days.

AndHoldTheBun · 01/02/2017 07:52

Checking in to thread 7, hello everyone.

Ratbagcatbag · 01/02/2017 07:54

Just placemarking to follow.

Lweji · 01/02/2017 07:58

This bit sounds promising, but it may be just to make Democrats happy.

""A judge who likes every outcome he reaches is likely a bad judge," said Gorsuch, saying he did not approving of judge's stretching the law for their own ends."

Roussette · 01/02/2017 08:00

Thanks ami

I posted this on the previous thread re the Supreme Court judge (sorry for repeating) and it looks like I was right! (not that I know anything...and I'm rarely right!)
"From what I've read (and it's just an amateur take on it...) there is a slightly better choice (Hardiman), a medium to poor choice (Gorsuch), and a horrendous choice (Pryor) are the 3 in the running. If Spicer is so convinced he will get more than enough Dem votes, I assume they are going for the medium to poor choice (whereby everyone signs in relief it wasn't the vile Pryor)."

So we have the medium to poor choice. DT probably knows he wouldn't get his first pick Pryor in. I think he is going to keep pushing the boundaries and just hope everyone toes the line because of 'protest fatigue'. Maybe this bloke is the start of that tactic

M0stlyHet · 01/02/2017 08:03

D'oh early morning brain fart - when I said the devil incarnate was Perry, I meant Pryor. Not with it yet.

Roussette · 01/02/2017 08:04

Thank you all for all your links and posts. I just think we could have lurkers looking in and if we inspire just one person to go and march we have done something good.

Also it keeps me sane! Ungoogleable... I can't talk to my DH about this. He probably agrees deep down with most of what I think but he is just passive, because that is just him. I accept that because I'm not going to start rowing with him about it and try and change his character. On the big things he is in agreement.

Ratbagcatbag · 01/02/2017 08:19

Rousette, I tend to watch stuff and not protest, but from this thread and all the information I'm finding out, I've signed the petition, written to my MP and looking to see it there are any local protests I can support. So it is making a difference.

Chippednailvarnishing · 01/02/2017 08:23

Just watched the unveiling of Gorsuch, it reminded me of a slimy old bloke announcing the winner of Miss World.

Funny that.

Roussette · 01/02/2017 08:28

Exactly Ratbag. I think of these threads as information and discussion because trying to make sense of the madness that is going on is very difficult. It's inspired me too.

Chipped Agree. Was it just me or was it like the bloke from XFactor with those long drawn out vowels... "Ladies and Gennnnnnttttttllllleman... The Prsssssident of the United Staaaaaaaaates".

He's not on a bloody gameshow. Fat orange wankerng fart.

(I do find a string of expletives about him helps my blood pressure from time to time Grin)

Roussette · 01/02/2017 08:29

Talking of wanking (sorry to lower the tone).

I saw a tweet yesterday saying "I wonder how many rooms in the White House he's wanked off in". Made me laugh because oh how true this probably is!

Sorry folks Blush

Chippednailvarnishing · 01/02/2017 08:31

Ugh.

I bet he shouts his own name in the vinegar strokes.

lampfromikea · 01/02/2017 08:33

UnGoogleable
Does anyone else feel this clusterfuck is seriously seeping into upsetting them in their daily lives?

I have seen that a lot of people responded in the affirmative to this, but I have to be honest and say no.
That's not to say that you're all wrong, but here's my perspective on everything-
I've had doomsday/death anxiety for pretty much my entire adult life. It started in yr6 learning about ww2 and just carried on. Recently, I seem to have made my peace with all of this and have a much more positive view on everything.
Whilst immersed in these threads and reading the real-time updates of this shitstorm, yes, it does make me worried and anxious and afraid for our entire way of life. BUT when I step back, take a break and do something else I have to remind myself that, while it is all of those things that I felt before, it's also changeable and predictable and positive things can come out of all this.
Think about the huge resistance movements that are springing up. Maybe I give people far too much credit, but I believe we are more well informed and vocal now than we have ever been, therefore it can't end in the doom and gloom that so many people are 'predicting'.
I'm not naive and understand the gravity of the situation, but I have to not let it affect my daily life as I would just be hiding under the duvet all day crying!

Or summed up by OYBBK a few posts back!

Roussette · 01/02/2017 08:34

Thanks lamp that's an enouraging post.

The Guardian seems to think this twitter account may be real. RoguePOTUSStaff. I'm going to keep looking in on it.

lampfromikea · 01/02/2017 08:40

Ha just read back over my post and it's not predictable in the slightest! I meant unpredictable of course!!!
