To think dogs should stay on leads if in a child's play park

would it be u of me to phone the local council and ask if a sign be put up for dogs to be kept on their leads in my local play park? There is a spacious field on the other side of the gate but people still let their dogs run around where there are children playing. I think this is wrong and I'm sick of my dd being too scared to go to the park because of the dogs!

CherryChasingDotMuncher do you think he possibly had an ed or food phobia? I have a food phobia with certain foods and on some days i'd rather not eat anything as it makes me fed up!

I adore dogs (more than most people!) but I agree with you.

I have a French bulldog and I have him off lead where I can but if I spot kids appearing in the distance I put him straight back on. Dogs jump up, accidentally scratch faces, knock people over, mucky people's clothes ... it just isn't fair to impose them on other people and to have them off leash in a play park is just madness.

I think you'll find it has been the law for about thirty years that dogs are not allowed in the children's play areas of parks anywhere in England (not sure about whole of UK) whether on lead or not

As the proud owner of both a dog and a child. I don't think dogs should be in children's play area at all off a lead. However I do feel that as parents we have a responsibility to adequately supervise our children sound dogs. Not to let them go lolloping up to a dog, not to hug a dog and to check with the owner that it is okay to touch the dog. 😁

YANBU, they shouldn't be there in a kids playground in the first place lead or no lead. I don't like dogs, I have a phobia of them since I was attacked by one, no massively strong feelings if they're running around an ordinary park and not touching me, don't give it a thought apart from when I'm dodging dog shit on the school run.

However I can't stand people who let their dogs come to pester you and frighten your child 'just being friendly' sorry, but no thanks, we were having a picnic once and a dog wouldn't go away, owner showed up about 5 minutes later not bothered that her dog had been running all over our picnic and really upsetting my child, we could see her walking around the cycle track not really giving a fig.

Well, I don't think a single dog owner has come onto this thread to say that they'd be happy to see dogs in a children's play area, so hopefully this will reassure the OP.

YANBU. Dogs should not be off leash in public parks, especially with little kids who may not yet know how to safely interact with dogs (or who can be easily bowled over by one). To flip it, kids also don't belong in dog parks! Grin
