To think dogs should stay on leads if in a child's play park

would it be u of me to phone the local council and ask if a sign be put up for dogs to be kept on their leads in my local play park? There is a spacious field on the other side of the gate but people still let their dogs run around where there are children playing. I think this is wrong and I'm sick of my dd being too scared to go to the park because of the dogs!

Dogs aren't allowed in any children's play parks near me.
I think it's fair enough, there are plenty of fields and wooded areas people can take their dogs for walks.
children's play parks should be for children.
it's not fair if children who are afraid of dogs have to miss out on going to the park because dogs are there.
also if these dogs belong to parents, and the parents are busy pushing their child on the swings or something, then many dog poos can be missed for children to step in.

OddBoots · 27/01/2017 07:42

Are you talking about a fenced area with swings and slide type stuff or do you mean a grassed section on which children play football and chasing games?

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 27/01/2017 07:47

I think the problem with cat shit is much beige than the dog one.

Most dog shit gets picked up. No cat shit ever is and lurks in gardens and green spaces. I know there is no legal requirement, but it's morally wrong.

FiaMarrow · 27/01/2017 07:47

I have never seen a dog owner laughing at someone being frightened of a dog

I have, several times. Including the charming woman who laughed AND tutted at DD as she clung to me crying her eyes out. She was 4 and the dog was bigger than her and had charged up to her nearly knocking her over.

I'm sure it was only being friendly though eh Hmm

I like dogs generally, it's the irresponsible owners that annoy me. Our village is littered with dog shite - although having read previous posts, I'm now equally suspicious of toddlers Wink

PinkSwimGoggles · 27/01/2017 07:48

yanbu
dogs should always be on the lead in public and never be in a children's play area.

Costacoffeeplease · 27/01/2017 07:55

Where's the op?

Or is it just another goady dog hating threadHmm

chloe19856 · 27/01/2017 07:57

Oh my goodness! Deirdre you are appalling. My only problem is the fact there is a perfectly good field a few steps away yet people still being their dogs where children and babies are playing**

PastysPrincess · 27/01/2017 08:00

The play park near me is fenced off and has signs prohibiting dogs but people still let them in. Last time I went someone had left dogs mess right at the bottom of the slide which inevitably got stepped in. I'm only grateful he didn't go down the slide and sit in it. It's not dogs I dislike, it's irresponsible dog owners.

charlestonchaplin · 27/01/2017 08:07

There is nothing inherently wrong in thinking dogs should be eaten. The outrage is ridiculous. Use your brains! We eat cows and other animals, what's different about dogs? Basically, you see them as furry toys, which is a selfish and arguably perverse use of animals. So the objection is cultural, and your culture of not eating dogs but eating other animals isn't superior to cultures where dogs are eaten.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 27/01/2017 08:10

YANBU.

I love dogs and I have the worlds soppiest, most child loving mongrel. He is not allowed in the kids play area because of the risk of him getting over excited (he loves chase and is a big dog) children being scared by him or most likely him peeing where a child is going to play in it.

WaitrosePigeon · 27/01/2017 08:16

Dogs should also always be muzzled and wear a nappy. Horrible creatures, I don't understand why it is deemed acceptable to have a biting shitting animal around decent people

Grin

Haven't seen a MN full on nutter for a while! The nappy really made me laugh.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 27/01/2017 08:21

YANBU, you do get dog owners who think it's a privilege for their dog to slobber all over you, I'm extremely nervous of dogs (especially big ones) and have had several people laugh at me as their dog jumps all over me and I panic. I'm so silly apparently he's only saying hello Hmm

I don't think there's anything sinister about people who aren't animal fans, however I'm very dubious about people who claim they prefer dogs to humans. Remember that horrible thread a while back where someone asked if they'd save their dog or another person's child from a fire and dozens of MNers couldn't see the problem with saying their dog. IIRC someone said they'd save their horse before they saved their own kids Shock

Also 100% agree with this

Hope all those outraged about the dog soup comment are vegans

EurusHolmesViolin · 27/01/2017 08:26

Indeed, I always think there's something very sinister about people who think there's something sinister about other people not being keen on animals.

Also, Deirdre is blatantly a troll. You're only giving her what she wants, people.

user1479548603 · 27/01/2017 08:48

Costa - Deidre is not unhinged. she has said :-

Dogs are horrible (her view to which she is entitled)
Dogs are smelly (yes they are)
Dogs shit on the pavement (yes they do)
Dogs bark incessantly (yes they do)
Dogs bite children (yes they do - and also adults by the way)
Dogs should be illegal (accept that this is controversial but not a reason to diagnose mental illness given the smell, noise, shit and danger)

NotStopped - agreed that this is because owners let them - but so what? They still bark, shit, spread disease and bite.

My own view - slightly less extreme than Deirdre but I'm sure will be seen as completely mad by dog owners - is that if you want a smelly, noisy, shitting, dangerous animal then fine. But you should have to take it to obedience classes and have a sign on your front door saying that you have a dog. This is to ensue that any shit left on the road can be posted through dog owners' letter boxes..

Oh and don't ever say to me that 'It's only being friendly' when your out of control animal has knocked my toddler over into a pile of the dogs' own shit and then started licking its face.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 27/01/2017 08:51

I feel so sorry for some posters here.

You really don't need to...

How would you know which household's dog was responsible for the mess? I'm guessing you wouldn't be planning to DNA test it Grin.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 27/01/2017 09:07

Can't help it.
I'm nice that way.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 27/01/2017 09:14

Do you mean they play area with the swings etc OP? I assumed that dogs weren't allowed there anyway? I have a dog but wouldn't dream of taking him in the children's bit

Several of my local play park areas don't have fences. I think it is so they blend in better with there environment. They are wooden and natural material playgrounds.

Sometimes dogs that are going past wander on and the owners call them off. That is not a problem. Some people with children bring their dogs on and have them running around with their children. That is very inconsiderate whether or not there are no dog signs.
