To think dogs should stay on leads if in a child's play park

would it be u of me to phone the local council and ask if a sign be put up for dogs to be kept on their leads in my local play park? There is a spacious field on the other side of the gate but people still let their dogs run around where there are children playing. I think this is wrong and I'm sick of my dd being too scared to go to the park because of the dogs!

Is it a fenced off play area? because I'm sure it is illegal for them to be in there at all.
I always put my dogs on a lead near children's play equipment even if it's an open park.
Deidre I feel sorry for you, I always thinks there's something very sinister about people who don't like animals: our small dog is currently snuggled up on the bed with our 5 year old. They are best friends and it's lovely to watch

I always think there is something very sinister about people who don't like animals ??? Why? I am not a fan of animals per and I know lots of people, including my own son, and both my grandchildren, who have had bad experiences of dogs.
We currently have my DD's 13 year old springer living with us. After 4 months DS can tolerate being in the same room as him, and the DGC will stroke him, but none of them go near dogs at any other time. The DGC were frightened by a strange dog jumping up at them in a playpark and the irresponsible owner thought it was funny that they were frightened.
I don't think dogs should be off the lead in children's play areas.

Dogs shouldn't be in a children's play area on or off lead. Even without fencing, any reasonable person should realise it is not a suitable place for them. My son is disabled and doesn't have reliable behaviour around dogs. He should be able to go into a children's play area without my having to worry about that danger.

noenergy · 27/01/2017 07:05

There r many people who just aren't animal people.

And of course there r the idiotic dog owners who find it funny if u r frightened of their dog!! While the dog is jumping all over u.

Dogs shouldn't b in the play park area but I think they do need to be able to run around in open grass areas.

'I always think there is something very sinister about people who don't like animals

Oh fuck off you weirdo.'

Nice response and kind of proves the point really.

Wilywizard · 27/01/2017 07:10

I have never seen a dog owner laughing at someone being frightened of a dog.

I have dogs and I agree they should not be allowed in a playground.

Those concerned of parasites in dog faeces, please campaign with the same vigour against cat shit as well.

AtSea1979 · 27/01/2017 07:16

Yikes some rude people on this thread.
I'm not a fan of dogs and I wouldn't like the idea of them peeing etc where kids play. OP YANBU, you can ask the council but with so many cut backs I doubt this will be a priority for them.

AtSea1979 · 27/01/2017 07:17

chardonnay there isnt a legal requirement to clean up cat shit so what exactly would you campaign?
Also I've never seen the news where a child was killed by a cat.

uncoolnn · 27/01/2017 07:18

I have a dog and if I had to walk him through a children's play park it would be on a short lead so I could keep him close to me and be in control of him. He's only off lead where I know there's no one about.

Deirdre you are disgusting.

Wilywizard · 27/01/2017 07:19

I posted some stats on infection from these parasites the other day on another dog bashing thread. I will try and find them.
It was incredibly tiny risk. I totally support them not being in a children's play area but not because of that.

Though my local post office had a toddler do a poo on the floor last year which the mother left for staff to clear up so I am not in to demonising dogs humans tbh.

JennyOnAPlate · 27/01/2017 07:19

Yanbu. If it's a fenced off play area dogs shouldn't be in there at all, lead or no lead.

Wilywizard · 27/01/2017 07:20

Yes, suggesting that dogs be killed and made in to a Korean virility soup is pretty rude.

She was posting with regards to parasites being used as an argument?

Toxocariasis is very rare – there are approximately two cases of illness due to infection per million of the population a year. On the rare occasions when human infection occurs, it usually only causes mild, flu-like symptoms. Toxocara antibodies are present in fewer than 2 in 100 healthy adults in the UK, who have previously been exposed to infection with no ill effects.

Last year, my mum saw a man do a poo on the pavement outside a local tearoom. He didn't clean it up either.

boshintang is a Korean dog soup - DeirdrePewtey should be ashamed of herself but I bet she wont be

scottishdiem I also have pugs but I find the opposite with people wanting to pet them all the time, 2 of mine are happy with that but my rescue one is still getting used to people, and gets scared they she gets too much attention I keep them on the lead all the time in public parks but then we do have an area that's more doggy friendly, people who don't have/like dogs don't tend to go there.

Dogs should never be off the lead in Childrens' play areas

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 27/01/2017 07:30

Oh, and I agree, dogs shouldn't be I fenced off play parks. And also that there is something very odd about people who hate animals.

Wilywizard · 27/01/2017 07:30

Saskia just seen your post, I couldn't believe it, in the queue, we all were very British and looked away. Not the toddlers fault but was stunned that it was left for staff to clear up.

MuseumOfCurry · 27/01/2017 07:33

Surely dogs aren't allowed in children's play areas in the first place, so your letter to the council should focus more on enforcement of existing laws?

We have a huge problem in our local park with human poo, sadly. Apparently if you smoke crack, you'll need to take a poo in pretty short order.

MuseumOfCurry · 27/01/2017 07:34

Britain is a nation of dog lovers. I think the dog haters need to come to terms with this.

CantChoose · 27/01/2017 07:35

You are sort of right about there being something sinister about people not liking animals, see the article below.
There is a definite difference though between not being keen on animals and actually harming them though.
I don't really like dogs, would definitely not be keen on them in a playground. But wouldn't harm one.
Wishing they were killed and used in soup? Not sure which side of the line that would fall...
