Insulted over a tin off beans in supermarket

Ahhh in Aldi this morning the queues half way up the isle I'm third in line and standing there minding my own business. When a lady barges past the people behind me and says " I'm just going in front off you because I have only this (points to a can of beans) " i said " no sorry you are not pushing in front off me or anyone else we all have places to be you will have to line up like everyone else" well that didn't go down too well she started shouting that she had a job to go to and if she didn't get out the shop in 3 minutes she would miss her bus blah blah blah I'm disrespectful and she thinks I need a personality transplant & liposuction!! Before I had the chance to say anything she was escorted away from the tills by the security guard and a member off staff to see what the problem was. During that time I had paid for my shopping. Was outside the store waiting for the bus and see her get into a car and drive off. I thought eh she made this big scene over a tin off beans and a late bus but yet left the store with no beans and drove off ?!! Got home told my friend and she said I was out off order for not letting her go before me! Was I in the wrong?

She was out of order. I wouldn't have let her either with that attitude, if she had asked nicely then yeah I would've.

I normally offer people to go in front in these situations. However, if someone assumed they could barge in front I wouldn't have let them

Wow that's so rude! If I see someone behind me has one item & I had lots of items I will sometimes offer to let them go before me. But it's completely different to offer than have someone demand it!

The way she spoke to you is unforgivable & she sounds horrid!

I usually let people in front if they only have a couple of things. But she was awful in the way she went about and expected it. Perhaps it's an experiment

If I'd noticed that she had just one item, I'd've suggested that she go before me, and if she'd asked nicely I would also have let her in front of me.

But that approach...wow!

In Lidl I've had a tin waved in my face and have them push to the front. Tin of peas too, well worth the rush.

IMO it is incredibly rude to ask to go ahead of someone else, even more so to expect to go in front/push in. I would offer to let someone ahead of me if i was last in the queue and had a fair amount of items, but if there's someone else behind me already i wouldn't offer to let them ahead as it's not my place to allow them ahead of someone behind me. None of us know the circumstances of anyone else in the queue, whether there is somewhere they need to be, if they have a disability etc that causes pain when standing, and lets face it, nobody likes waiting.

I've been in a situation where there was a bit of a gap on the conveyor belt between me and the person in front of me, but i was fully stood in the gap between two tills half way down to the actual till. I was almost done unloading my basket and a much older, larger, intimidating man physically pushed his way past (practically through) me and put his stuff down on the belt in the gap between mine and the person ahead. He even shouted his son to "Hurry up and come and put the rest of the stuff down!" and pushed my stuff back to make more room for the rest of theirs. I have social anxiety and felt way too intimidated to say anything, and my OCD was going crazy feeling contaminated because he'd physically brushed against my entire body pushing past me because the lane was narrow and he was over weight and was visibly grubby with dirt and smelled quite bad. Thankfully he'd pushed my stuff back by pushing the divider, if he'd touched my actual shopping i'd have had to leave it and the shop, i couldn't have bought it after he touched it. Cue dousing myself in disinfectant spray before i could get in the car.

She was the unreasonable one. Usually I'll let someone go in front if they only have a couple bits or if they ask, I have no problem letting them go before me. I'm usually in no rush. But if someone was to just presume then I'd tell them no too.

Another if I noticed then yes..If someone demanded then no...

She sounds quite barmy but Aldi etiquette is always to let people with a basket or one item go in fronT. Tis the Aldi law.

Thank you for the responses. I have previously offered others to go before me if they have one or two items and I have a whole trolley full or you can see they are struggling with young children/ elderly etc. But to demand to jump in isn't right! Really so much fuss over a tin off beans

Again if I had a lot off items I would off offered but I had milk, 2 onions and some cheese not even a full basket.

She was a crazy lady for sure. I also let people go in front of me and people often reciprocate if I have one thing. It seems to be a feature of Aldi and Lidl !

Sometimes I will offer to let someone go in front if I have a full trolley and they only have a few things, once I have asked as I was running late - I was very apologetic about asking though, if someone attempted to barge then hell would freeze over before I let them go before me. YADNBU

Once when I got to the checkout there was a pile of shopping on the conveyer belt and nobody beside it. I waited a few minutes and then asked the wombat the till if she knew what was happening. She had no idea so I moved all of the items to the end of the conveyer and had almost unloaded my fairly full trolley before a woman appeared with an armful of shopping and started having a go at me for queue jumping.

Eventually she gave up demanding I repack my trolley to let her resume her spot and unloaded her armful of shopping. Then she disappeared agin! My shopping went through and I was paying and she still had not reappeared so when a guy appeared behind her shopping and asked me about it I explained. He waited, I paid and then he did the same as me. Once more she appeared with an armload of goods and went through the same routine with him. He stood his ground. By this time I was amused and hung around at the packing area. Yep...she unloaded and wandered off again.......I think she was 'saving' her space at the checkout.....

What a carry on! Ridiculous.
I would normally let someone in front if they just had a couple of items but people demanding puts my back up.
A woman once asked me if she could go ahead of me in Aldi because she had to run for a bus and she only had a couple of items. I let her as she had asked politely.
15 minutes later I was walking past McDonalds (which is only a couple of minutes away from Aldi) and saw her sitting there tucking into a burger!! What a cheek!

Was once at fracture clinic with ds2 when a young couple came in creating a fuss about how they needed to be seen first , in a hurry cos they had to pick kids up from school. I was as it was the middle of summer holidays. Anyway they got rushed through while everyone else who were there before them sat and waited patiently. After a long wait we were seen and leaving hospital I noticed very same couple sat in their car chilling, enjoying a spliff...... some people are self important arseholes

YANBU, I too offer people to go infront but its a gesture of kindness not a right, this reminds me of the thread where people 'reserve' tills, I'll never understand people.

I had a couple in front of me in the Co-op tell the man with one item behind me to go in front of them.

After he'd gone ahead they asked me if I minded . "No, just as well really", I said with a smile & they had a real go at me, with him calling me a bitch & his wife trying to shut him up

I didn't mind at all & would have let him go in front of me but not them - it was my choice to make, not theirs!
