Inspired by the other thread ....

Who is brave enough to take the challenge? Who dishes out crisps and penguins?

No judging just out of interest to see what the DC if mners really eat!

Obviously too late today for most, but tomorrow?

Felicia - of course, let me just check with my mum though as it's her recipe and I think I got the quantities wrong on mine! Blush

NeverEver - ah, thanks! Smile He's a really nice kid, he's really into recycling and his mum brought him round when we moved in to ask if he we'd be happy to let him help sort our recycling, and he does it every week so packed lunches are the least I can do! Plus I've learned lots about what I can and cannot recycle so it works brilliantly all round! Grin

Other thread. Particularly loved disgrunted lunch box for a teenager.

AnnPerkins · 26/01/2017 10:18

DS 7yo today had:

1 wholemeal banana and dairylea sandwich
1 red pepper cut into strips
1 satsuma
1 packet sweet & salt popcorn
1 homemade gluten free cheese scone with spread (left over from DH's dinner)
1 Soreen maltloaf (because I know he won't eat the scone)
Orange squash (hi juice)

And some carrot sticks for breaktime.

FizzBombBathTime · 26/01/2017 10:19

Flouncing I think you're right, what would you suggest?

I'm thinking... A pack of pall mall menthols?

Trinpy · 26/01/2017 10:21

My ds is almost 3. Today he has:

ham sandwich
banana
raisins
yogurt
bottle of water

Sometimes it's a cheese sandwich, different fruit and rice cakes/goodies crisps/flapjack instead of the raisins. He could probably eat a bit more tbh but he comes home immediately after lunch so he can have a snack when he gets in.

Thebookswereherfriends · 26/01/2017 10:22

Marmite sandwich on wholemeal bread.
satsuma
Pineapple chunks
Two small organix gingerbread men

DD is 4.

Juanbablo · 26/01/2017 10:22

Today it was ham wraps for both, carrots for ds1 and cucumber for dd, strawberries for dd and grapes for ds1, yoghurts for both. It's a variation on the same things most days. Always the same veggies but the fruits vary and different wrap/sandwich fillings.

yumyumpoppycat · 26/01/2017 10:23

Thing is I give chopped veg and berries and grapes to my 2 dds but this part nearly always comes back home for the bin which is a waste. DD 2 will make her own lunch sometimes and leaves out the veg but would put in fruit, she would also add hula hoops or sunbites which I would save to have at home where noone can see them . Both girls like humous wraps or cheese sandwiches, chicken at a push, and would have pasta or pizza leftovers. mini sausages would also get eaten but I worry about them going off. They would usually have some kind of granola bar.

DS 11 at highschool wanted packed lunch today as low on funds for buying at school - I had time so made it

  • cheese sandwich wholemeal bread 2 slices of cheddar, red pepper slices (should have added cucumber and carrot as he will eat these), nature valley peanut protein bar (not keen but he will eat it), a bag of sunbites, water. He may buy a slice of pizza aswell. He always has cheese and bread in one form or another, other than fish and chips on a friday.

Nod to healthy eating

Meat - ham or mini pepperami sausage or chicken pieces
Dairy - Mini baby bel or other cheese
Veg - Carrot sticks or sometimes lettuce or cucumber
Fruit - usually an apple
Carb - crisps or sometimes crackers or rice cakes

No treat as I'm a mean mummy. And dd is a bit overweight. She was more so when I was really very poorly but I'm a bit better so tackling this. Always a fine balance.

Breezy1985 · 26/01/2017 10:25

My 11yo DS has today -

Cucumber and Carrot sticks
Cheese Sandwich
2 frubes
Pepperami
Pom bear crisps
Capri sun

FizzBombBathTime · 26/01/2017 10:26

Now THAT is classy, Flouncing

Magicpaintbrush · 26/01/2017 10:28

My DD (8) will usually have ...

a wrap with cheese or sometimes turkey,
grapes
an apple (doesn't always eat it)
raw carrot sticks (doesn't always eat them)
a bottle of summerfruits squash
A packet of Bear claws/paws OR a school bar
Either a cheese string OR a Babybel OR a packet of pombears.

However today is a bit different and she has got pot of peaches/pears for pud, and instead of the pombears/babybel/cheesestring she has got two plain crackers with a Light Cheese Triangle.

btfly2 · 26/01/2017 10:30

Excuse my ignorance, I Know this is a thread about packed lunches, lunch box food and I can see many school age children with them in the messages and I was wondering what about the school meals? I thought once at the school most of the kids and parents go for the school's menus (exceptions of course for allergies, etc) Is it because kids preferences, cheaper than the school ones or healthier? Am I missing something? ( please note I'm not a UK mum but yes living here) thank you

catsarenice · 26/01/2017 10:30

DD aged 9 today has 1 slice brown bread marmite sandwich, apple & grape bag, babybel, small banana, small pack of breadsticks. On a Friday she has crisps and I buy her a bar of chocolate on the way home from school. Try to do healthy pack lunches to make up for the crap she eats at home!

maddiemookins16mum · 26/01/2017 10:30

DD (12) has a half and half wrap with grated cheese and pickle/shredded lettuce. An individual greek yoghurt with the tub of honey on the side, a mini bag of hula hoops and a pear (which will be in her lunch bag still at 4pm). I also put in three sweets from the tub of celebrations left from Christmas (which I do every day until they run out).
I'll get my coat now 😳.
Disclaimer: she had a banana with porridge for breakfast.
Some days are better than ithers to be fair.

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 26/01/2017 10:33

I think I might win for the unhealthiest lunchbox!

DS16 is autistic so his lunch has been pretty much the same for the last 11-12 years:
Ham sandwich (was jam up to 12 months ago so this was seen as a huge step in the right direction!)
Frube - has to be strawberry
Mini roll - has to be Cadburys
Crisps (quavers, wotsits or similiar)
Bottle of water - again, this is a recent improvement, it was Fruit Shoot (no added sugar apple and blackcurrant ONLY!) for years.

NoCapes · 26/01/2017 10:34

DS(7) has -
Cheese sandwich (1 piece of bread folded over)
1/2 a packet of crisps
Cucumber chunks
Grapes
Frube
Weak juice in his bottle

Yesterday it was -
Dairylea sandwich (1 piece of bread)
Mini sausages (5 or 6 I think)
Cheese pastry puff twist (bit like a breadstick)
Cucumber
1/2 an apple (sliced)
Weak juice

His lunch boxes are so boring but he has pretty bland plain tastes and he eats it so meh!

ruthsmumkath · 26/01/2017 10:34

9 yo ds-

Chocolate spread sandwich on brown bread (1 slice of bread),
Crisps
Chocolate biscuit
Frube
Apple juice carton
Grapes
A carrot (peeled)

6 yo dd

Ham sandwich (on brown bread)
Chocolate biscuit
Crisps
Dunker
Frube
Grapes
Carrot.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 26/01/2017 10:36

btfly- I have twins in juniors and it would cost be £2.50 a day each for school dinners which is just too much. Packed lunches are much cheaper.

DS3 is is Reception so he has school dinners - normally ice cream mashed potatoes according to him! Grin

Thanks Fenella appreciate it.

BowiesBlueEye · 26/01/2017 10:37

DS 5-

Ham sandwich
Skinny sweet popcorn
Satsuma or banana
Carton of apple juice
(Would be milk if I could find cartons)
Mini sausage rolls or cocktail sausages

He was having a chocolate topped rice cake too but I got told off for that Blush

He won't eat cheese or yoghurt. It's a pain I the arise.

PaulaBBB · 26/01/2017 10:37

This is a pretty standard lunch with us. One fruit, one veg, a yogurt, a treat and a 'main'. They normally have a bottle of water too, although once a week get a carton of orange or apple juice. Empty lunch boxes every day.

My phone obviously doesn't like the word arse.

GoesDownLikeACupOfColdSick · 26/01/2017 10:38

DD is only a toddler, but when DBs and I were little, we had packed lunches. Older DB got things like sandwiches, crisps and homemade chocolate peanut butter bars. By the time I came along, she'd read something in the paper about how to give kids healthy school lunches, much to my disgust. So a typical packed lunch when I was 5-11 would be:

Sandwich (2 pieces of wholegrain bread, cheese or Bovril or egg mayo or ham or chicken)
Low fat crisps
Banana or apple
Orange or apple juice box (the multipacks also had tropical juice there which we weren't allowed because it had added sugar)

I remember being seriously jealous of my friends who would get Flakes and all sorts in their lunchboxes.
