Inspired by the other thread ....

Who is brave enough to take the challenge? Who dishes out crisps and penguins?

No judging just out of interest to see what the DC if mners really eat!

Obviously too late today for most, but tomorrow?

Probably someone's said this already but I'm really surprised that people give their kids unhealthy lunch boxes because surely the main advantage of the lunch box is that, as it is eaten far away from us, we can't hear the whingeing about the absence of pom bears and fizzy drinks and chocolate? And then you know their teachers are going to see it too. So there's a big incentive to show off, with the pleasant side effect that they might actually eat something healthy if there's nothing else on offer.

An honest look at what your kids eat for breakfast, that's the proper measure of a try-hard parent. We usually manage to get them to eat some rice Krispies but there are those mornings when it all goes sideways and I'm like "you can eat a kinder chocolate bar in the car, just make sure you've finished it by the time we get in the Kindergarten so I don't get a lecture on the importance of healthy eating"

Juanbablo · 29/01/2017 06:36

toomuch, you surely can't really be surprised that people give their children unhealthy lunchboxes if it's true that you let your children eat chocolate for breakfast?

WreckTangled · 29/01/2017 06:39

Dd (6 and fussy)

Plain crackers
A little pot of humous to dip them in
Strawberries and grapes
A pulsin or oatie bar
Vanilla yoghurt
Water

Ds (4)

Couscous or a humous wrap
Strawberries, blueberries, grapes (whatever we have)
A yoghurt
A couple of crackers
A pulsin bar
Water

I'm quite surprised people put little chocolate bars etc in lunch boxes. Our school doesn't have a lunch box policy apart from no nuts.

toomuchtooold · 29/01/2017 06:52

Well Juan I was being slightly light-hearted, but yes, I am surprised, because as I said (slightly facetiously I grant you) in my post, the advantage of lunch is that as it is eaten away from you, there is no bargaining opportunity for the kids, they have to simply eat it or go hungry.

Juanbablo · 29/01/2017 07:43

I do see the advantage of this, you don't have to hear the complaining, but my children tell me that their peers get juice cartons and chocolate and crisps in their lunchbox. I thought what I gave was the norm.

MrsKoala · 29/01/2017 09:12

You also don't get to see them not eating any of it and just get to see it all in the lunchbox when you empty it out after school and know they go thru the day hungry every day.

isittheholidaysyet · 29/01/2017 09:24

Ds9

Fussy, this every day:
(One choice from each of the options, I rotate them)

2 rice cakes with butter on.
Cheesestring/piece of ham/hardboiled egg.
Red pepper/cherry tomatoes/carrot
Grapes/banana/2 satsumas
Tube yoghurt such as a frube.
Crisps/rice pudding/go ahead yoghurt biscuits.
Multivitamin fruit and carrot juice box drink.

AtSea1979 · 29/01/2017 09:29

Sandwich, crisp, frube and piece of fruit. High juice in drinks bottle. Can't believe people buy cartons for every day, that must add up.

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/01/2017 18:36

15yr old Dd's for tomorrow.
Pate sandwich on white, salt and shake crisps, mini smoked cheese, from age frais and mini pack of haribo.
She'll take her water bottle.
She wasn't meant to be staying here tonight so I improvised, but at 15, she's quite able to eat as much crap as she wants out of the house, so I don't worry too much, she's a healthy weight.

DD, DS and me have wholewheat pasta twirls with sliced chicken in a tomatoey, pepper, herby sauce I made today. I'll wash some watercress and cucumber and pop it in with it in the morning. We all have a strawberry Bonne Maman (sp?) yoghurt mousse for pudding.

Mine are not brilliant.

DS (6) has a Leerdammer sandwich (wholemeal bread), a satsuma, a carton of orange juice and either a KitKat or packet of Hula-Hoops. He refuses to eat school dinners.

BeMorePanda · 30/01/2017 14:29

today wholewheat pasta twists with tomato sauce in hot flask.
Sugar snap peas.
Pear.
mandarin

Goldenhandshake · 30/01/2017 14:33

DD (8) has a wholemeal roll with roast chicken, a baby bel, pot of 4/5 cherry tomatoes, a caprisun blackcurrant water drink and a bag of those 'pea snacks' from Aldi.

WreckTangled · 31/01/2017 07:19

Humous and carrot wraps. Actually looking at these now I feel they have way too much sugar in them Blush

DD age 4.5 has some variation on a cheese sandwich every.single.day! Today it's a cheese croissant... Sometimes we do rye crackers and soft cheese which she spreads herself.

Strawberry melon and kiwi fruit salad.
Celery and cucumber sticks with pip and nut maple peanut butter to dip.
Youghurt.
Babybel.
Water.

thedcbrokemybank · 31/01/2017 09:48

Mine have had today:
White wrap with mayo, chicken and salad
Actimel yoghurt drink
Cheese cubes
Pot of nuts, seeds, raisens and a few choc chips
Satsuma or banana

I think it is hard to get the balance of vitamins, not too much sugar and enough protein.

Rikalaily · 31/01/2017 10:04

Ds (14) and dd1 (12 in a few days) make thier own lunches. Dd1 makes a sensible lunch with a sandwich or salad etc. Ds takes mostly sausage rolls, cereal bars, crisps etc.

Dd2 (10) & dd3(6) usually have a wholemeal sandwich/sandwich thin most days, in the summer they take more pasta salads etc and sometimes soup in a thermos in winter. Dd2 prefers tuna or egg mayo fillings, dd3 is very fussy and usually has cheese spread and ham.

Today they have (I barely got any sleep)

Dd2 - Sausage roll & cheese and onion roll
Yogurt
Clementine & apple
Cereal bar
Choc biscuit bar
Monster munch
Bottle of water

Dd2 - Sausage roll
Cheese & crackers
Yogurt
Apple
Cereal bar
Choc biscuit bar
Crisps
Bottle of water

They have something from their box at break, they are always starving after school and moan if they have to wait the 10 mins til we are home so I pack an extra snack for home time. I'm not bothered by the amount of snacky things, they always have a good breakfast and a proper dinner, lots of fruit & veg (apart from dd3 who refuses almost all veg so have to sneak it in).

Clutterbugsmum · 31/01/2017 11:29

DS (nearly 8)

pulled chicken and cucumber wrap (wrap is wheat and white)
spiralized carrot
Yogurt
cranberry & raspberry juice
cheese cube.

DD2 (9 yrs)

Chicken & salad wrap
Yogurt
Babybel
mange and apple juice
spiralized carrot
baby tomatoes.

cirrus29 · 31/01/2017 12:01

...and here's my packed lunch, which I made at the same time!

LBOCS2 · 31/01/2017 12:08

4yo DD1 took to preschool with her:

A 'thins' wholemeal sandwich with naice ham in
A lobe of red pepper.
4 0.5cm rounds of cucumber
A pack of own brand baked mini cheddars
An apple
A lidded weaning cup of mini marshmallows.

She will definitely eat the sandwich, veg and marshmallows at lunchtime. She may take a bite out of the apple and it's 50/50 whether she'll eat the mini cheddars there or on the walk home.
