Inspired by the other thread ....

Who is brave enough to take the challenge? Who dishes out crisps and penguins?

No judging just out of interest to see what the DC if mners really eat!

Obviously too late today for most, but tomorrow?

DD is fussy but we have a healthy eating policy in school. She HATES sandwiches.

She has either chicken goujons, pasta with grated cheese or something similar in her hot food flask.

She has "emergency" extra food in her bag too - which she was almost never eating but is on a growth spurt at the moment so eating loads again:
15g bag of popcorn
Nature valley oat bar (can't have most types as there is a nut ban in school for allergies)
Matchbox size box of raisins

At the moment, because she is so hungry (and in Y5 equivalent, where they have a more relaxed attitude), she sometimes gets a fun size bar of chocolate or pack of crisps, especially on longer days (afterschool activities).

She will eat an apple walking to school in the morning but not in school itself. We've gone through many phases of eating dried fruit over the years - mango was the biggest hit for longest, but also apple rings, figs, and Lidl's dried fruit mix (had pears, apples, raisins, mango and other bits in it). We've also had periods where crackers and cheese were acceptable, so snack packs of cream crackers, Italian crackers and tucs have all been regular items on our shopping list.

She was never a fan of yoghurt. We had a period of lunchables (only a couple of weeks though).

Her water bottle has always been either plain water or fruit squash, and she has had periods of liking innocent smoothies.

I work on the basis of making sure there is solid food there that she will eat, other food in her bag that she will eat if she's extra hungry but won't go off if it sits there for weeks, and having the odd treat (pretty much the same as at home).

Ds (9)
Pitta with ham
Plum
Orange
Packet of crisps
Baby bel

Dd (5)
Cheese sandwich
Plum
Orange
Mini apple pie
Baby bel

Teen dd just packed a cheese sandwich and a banana as she has a lunchtime club, but I suspect she will buy a snack at break.

ColourfulOrangex · 26/01/2017 11:13

DS 5 had
Soft cheese sandwich
Mini cheddars
Apple
Frubes
And a penguin
Oh and a bottle of flavoured water

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 26/01/2017 11:14

Dd 10yo pack lunch is almost always the same!

A tuna and sweetcorn wrap/ sandwich (sometimes has cucumber in as well)
Bag of crisps (Lidls own variety)
Piece of fruit (apple/satsuma/grapes)
A yogurt
A cereal bar/ chocolate biscuit.

I know its not the healthiest but I also think it could be worse!!

This has come at the perfect time as we've started packed lunches this term as ds yr7 was buying sandwiches from school instead of a dinner, and the ds yr5 has always wanted packed lunches anyway. I'm having to remember that I need to do a decent meal in the evenings instead of a light tea!

Yr5 boy had

cheese sandwich with 50/50 bread (or whatever it's called)
apple
actimel type yoghurt drink
small pot of grapes

Reading some of the others, maybe he needs more?

The big one made his own and I didn't check it today

DontOpenDeadInside · 26/01/2017 11:16

Dd2 (8) has:
Either ham sandwich (brown bread) or pasta with ham (sometimes an egg too).
Cucumber (4 slices)
Cherry Tomatoes (2)
Then whatever fruit we have. Usually grapes/melon/apple slices
A froob,
Flavoured water/vimto/fresh
Packet of crisps (she only usually eats half)
And a small chocolate bar/cake
Dd1(12, veggie) has:
Salad sandwich or pasta salad (with mayo),
Carrot/celery sticks with little tub of Philly,
Fruit (as above)
Crisps
Water to drink
I do put a treat in for her too, but it's hit or miss whether she'll eat it.(fussy as well as veggie)

bonbonours · 26/01/2017 11:18

8 and 10 year old here had wholemeal wrap with tuna and sweet corn mayo. Tupperware of veg eg celery cucumber carrot sticks. Blueberry muffin (small homemade) or chocolate biscuit. Younger one is hungrier and also has packet of chipstix and a cheese string. They don't have crisps everyday and I stopped giving them to 10 year old at all as she wasn't eating her veg whereas I know 8 year old will eat it all. They also took an apple and celery sticks respectively (they chose) for a break time snack. Older one only eats her snack half the time though despite me hassling her about it.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 26/01/2017 11:18

Grin Rufus thats my kind of lunch Wink

This thread has just reminded me that dd left her pack lunch bag at school on Monday and has been home with a sore throat/ headache ever since, can't wait to get that back...............

Tenpastlate · 26/01/2017 11:19

8 year old has:

Hummous + cucumber wrap
3 cherry tomatoes
2 big chunks of cucumber
Grapes
Digger bar (chocolate)
Carton of apple juice

Same every single day, though sometimes swap choc bar or add extra veg. It's all he'll eat.

DontOpenDeadInside · 26/01/2017 11:21

I'm a bit gutted mine aren't allowed to take hot food in. Dd2 loves HM leek and potato soup and it's pennies to make.

Lovemusic33 · 26/01/2017 11:23

My Dd has :
Ham sandwich
Mini cucumber
Cereal bar or kit Kat
Yoghurt
Apple

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 26/01/2017 11:33

Today both of mine (7 and 4) had

half a buttered bretzel,
a satsuma,
a little yogurt.

It's only a snack for them as they eat lunch at home. If it were lunch, it would be a WHOLE bretzel, a satsuma AND some chopped veg and the yoghurt.

babyblabber · 26/01/2017 11:34

DS brings

Tuna sandwich/bagel or toasted mozzarella sandwich with a scrape of tomato paste ("pizza sandwich")
Yoghurt
Cucumber slices
Banana/apple

Nothing but water allowed in school thank god and no junk food like biscuits, bars, cereal bars etc and "packets" (including lunchables & frubes) are discouraged. I never realised there's 3 teaspoons of sugar in a frube til the school sent out info on lunch stuff!

My kids get plenty of treats at the weekend so no way would I be sending in a treat every day but would be so hard if all their friends had them.

DMnamechanger · 26/01/2017 11:34

Another one with no pics.

My DCs' school (local primary school) in a fairly average/mixed area, not extremely poor, not incredibly affluent) is very strict:

drinks: water ONLY. Absolutely nothing else.

Break time: a piece of fruit. 3 days a week this is supplied by a local supermarket as part of an EU scheme.

Lunch: one or more rounds of sandwiches.

As a special treat things like mini Babybels are allowed, but we are asked not to give too much food as the idea is that the children spend 20 minutes eating and then go and play.

I should imagine that the quantities are not strictly controlled (you can eat as much as you want, but only fruit and sandwiches) and allowance is made for dietary restrictions, but the basic rules are very clear.

sianihedgehog · 26/01/2017 11:35

DS is 17 months, and goes to a childminder who works as a team with another childminder so there are 8 kids and two adults most days. They have dinners rather than lunches as the children prefer these to sandwiches.

DS lunch today:

  • Plastic tub with leftover mandarin beef and rice plus green veg
  • bag of red pepper and cucumber sticks for snacking
  • bag of mini wheats and rice cakes for snacking
  • banana

He only drinks water, so no drink needed.

NotThrowAwayMyShot · 26/01/2017 11:38

DS aged 12 today has taken:

Half a baguette with Philadelphia
Cheese & Onion baked crisps
Bunch of grapes
Flapjack
Oasis drink

AButterflyLightsBesideUs · 26/01/2017 11:58

My 5 year old today has:

Round of cheese sandwiches
Cucumber sticks
Apple
Mini chocolate snowman or santa or something (can't remember)
Water.

This is fairly typical. Sometimes if she's lucky she'll get a sausage sandwich instead (the favourite, but requires forward planning). If there's any cake around I'll give her a small piece of that instead of a chocolate.

EnormousTiger · 26/01/2017 12:19

My sixthformers make their own. One who is vegan took in a container with his beans, rice, veg meal he cooked last night which will last him for several days as he made a lot. They have a microwave oven in the sixth form centre. He took in 2 brown pitta breads too. His twin I did not notice but I think it was a pack of almonds, a cold Waitrose panini and presumably something he will put inside it at school.
We all only drink water.

DontOpenDeadInside · 26/01/2017 12:23

Just realised I had these pics from a packed lunch before Christmas. Our "elf" made it for dd2. Included "pink milk" that's a fancy fondant thing in the middle.

Mooey89 · 26/01/2017 12:32

DS 3 has hot lunch (left over slag Bol) and then cold tea, sandwiches brown bread with ham, apple, yoghurt, babybel and soreen malt loaf - he thinks it's cake but I pretend to myself it's healthy!!!!

MrsTarzan1 · 26/01/2017 12:35

when they do sports club (hot dinners at school) they'll have -

sarnie
crisps
fruit
yog/cheese
chocolate treat

user1472334322 · 26/01/2017 12:42

Ds1 (5yo) has hot dinners at school, I think it's jacket potatoes today! Ds2 (2yo) is at preschool today with a packed lunch.
Today he has:
A roll with marmite (he has a variation of this every day, sometimes sandwiches, but must have marmite in it!)
Grapes and blueberries
2 mini sausage rolls
2 biscuits

His preschool lunches are fairly similar each day, depends on the fruit we have in.

I'm at work today so I had a cup a soup, a cheese scone, popcorn, an apple and a small choc bar.
Dp makes his own lunch on occasion too. Sandwich with cheese, tomato and salad cream, soreen loaf, fruit and biscuits.

HalfwayToFifty · 26/01/2017 12:48

2 packed lunches a week. Tuesday and Thursday. Always the same as he's so fussy/won't try anything new.
Ham sandwich, white bread, no crusts
2 small yogurts
1 satsuma
Handful of grapes
Slice of brioche
Occasionally an apple if not been eaten after breakfast.
Juice to drink
