Inspired by the other thread ....

Who is brave enough to take the challenge? Who dishes out crisps and penguins?

No judging just out of interest to see what the DC if mners really eat!

Obviously too late today for most, but tomorrow?

An honest example of our 9 year old's lunchbox;

Turkey ham or chicken in wholemeal bread/roll, pitta or thins.
Cereal bar or a yoghurt
Apple or baby plum tomatoes
Carton of OJ

Gileswithachainsaw · 27/01/2017 18:00

Tuna and sweetcorn Sandwich (they share one. Home made bread so slightly bigger/thicker)

Cucumber
Pepper sticks

Plain popcorn (kernels popped at home so no salt or sugar just a little oil)

Homemade flap jack

Apple.

This is mine and my daughters lunch. In addition we both had mackerel, olives and berries. She also had 1 piece of Soreen. We have similar every day. Veg, protein and some fruit. Our carbs would be potato or small amounts of rice. Veg not eaten at lunch is eaten if hungry after school. No other processed food other than the Soreen (which is a Friday treat)

Pepperami is one of those things where I just cannot understand who likes this stuff! Salty, chewy, super-processed meat in a stick? Eugh. I'm amazed at its popularity!

Lndnmummy · 27/01/2017 18:13

DS has a roll with soft cheese, turkey ham and cucumber. Then small pot of cucumber and carrot sticks as well hummus. Another small pot of grapes/blueberries/apples. Then a home made bran muffin with banana. He drinks water (nothing else is allowed). All lovely food yes but it is the same every single day. He is 4 and in reception. We need to work on diversifying his lunch box but I also need to make sure that he eats.

ilovechocolate07 · 27/01/2017 18:18

I give a sandwich or a wrap. A yoghurt, fruit, juice and either a biscuit or crisps.

AntiQuitty · 27/01/2017 18:22

I took photos this morning for this thread! I highly recommend Yumboxes if you want Bento style. They are pricey but well made! Hummus sandwiches for 5 year old and tune + peri peri wrap for 12 year old.

No cooking facilities at 9yo DS' school, so he takes in a packed lunch everyday.

Today he had cheese sandwich on wholemeal bread, baked mini cheddars, 3 slices of chorizo, banana and a Jaffa cake bar. Plus a bottle of water. That's a standard lunch for him and he eats it all (one of those items will be chosen as his mid morning snack). I know it's not the healthiest. I go through phases of caring and then sort of forget about it.

eleven59 · 27/01/2017 18:27

Will probably be flamed but I'm surprised at the number of responses that include crisps, chocolate, biscuits....

WhirlwindHugs · 27/01/2017 18:29

5yo had:
half ham sandwich
Cucumber
Melon
Raisins
Cheese string

7yo had:
Ham sandwich
Cucumber
Melon
Grapes
Mini cheddars

Pretty standard lunches for mine. They get a cereal bar/biscuit type snack after school.

I'm a bit worried about some of your portion sizes! DD is 4 and when she goes to school she will have the free school dinners. But at home when we have sandwiches, she has 1.5 slices of bread. No crisps apart from at weekends sometimes but I am worried her sandwiches are too big if there are 8 year olds eating single slice sarnies!

SpamCat · 27/01/2017 18:49

My 3 year old does not like change and has exactly the same lunch every day. I do wonder if the staff think I have no imagination!
Cheese spread sandwich (1 slice of brown seeded bread)
Cheese string
Dairylea dunker
Frube
Pot of cut in half grapes or a banana
(Goodies Oaty bar for snack time)

Giddyaunt18 · 27/01/2017 18:53

Cheese string AND dairylea dunker AND cheese spread sandwich?

Giddyaunt18 · 27/01/2017 18:54

My DD would only eat ham in her sandwiches from age 3 to 4. She is now 13 and hates it! These phases pass thankfully!

Patriciathestripper1 · 27/01/2017 18:57

Dd age 10 has:
Salami sandwich (crusts cut off)
4 tuc biscuits
Small tub of grapes
Small tub raspberrys
Rice cake with choc top
Small munch bunch yoghurt
Apple
Bottle water

SparklyTwinkleGlitter · 27/01/2017 19:13

I could make a super healthy lunchbox but there's no point.
If I took a pic of before and after lunchbox, you'd be hard pressed to spot the difference. DS (7) rarely touches it.
He gets home about 3.05 and opens it then and eats a piece of carrot or half a ham sandwich. Refuses all fruit.
He also refuses to have the school milk at break so presumably lives on fresh air most of the time.
He won't eat much at tea time either.
I'm hoping this very long phase will end soon! Sad

kateandme · 27/01/2017 19:16

oh to go back to the days where kids had cheap ham, treacle or jam sandwhiches.no food police.
glass of milk
penguins kit kats.
cheese stick
bit of veg stick
cheapo tuck shop crisps!
Ribena!
sugar!
no yes no cant wont will should must have portioned crap
and they were happier and oooh less obese.and families were better.kids happier.everything better
so many rules.so many more problems
issues.les judgements.
hate this world sometimes

Busybee1234 · 27/01/2017 19:17

My 5 year old has
-Wholemeal sandwich with cheese / marmite & cheese / low sugar strawberry jam / hummus / honey
-fruit so apple chunks / blueberries / strawberries/ banana / kiwi / pear / melon
-a treat which is an organic mini natural or flavoured yoghurt / a couple of mini cheddars / a small biscuit / an innocent children's size smoothie
-a bottle of water
After a lot of persuading she is trying school dinners again, but prefers her lunch.

Busybee1234 · 27/01/2017 19:17

*lunchbox not lunch

Busybee1234 · 27/01/2017 19:19

Meant to say that my 5 year old has pretty much the same lunchbox contents as I was given nearly 30 years ago!

Geobaby · 27/01/2017 19:23

My 6 yo has:
Cheese and cucumber sandwich on whole meal bread
1 carrot
Massive chunk of cucumber
Occasionally, cut up grapes instead of carrot
Mini yoghurt
Mini cedars or Pom bears
Sometimes a mini peperami

OreoHeaven · 27/01/2017 19:31

Sandwich or crackers
Fruit YoYo
Banana
Apples in a packet (cut up)
Goodies Cereal Bar or Iced Gems
Packet of crisps
Sometimes yoghurt or raisins

ZippyNeedsFeeding · 27/01/2017 19:42

My 5 year old has pretty much the same lunch every day;

Cheese roll (wholemeal), or sometimes a cheese wrap
Fruit (today some blueberries which he ate, but sometimes other fruit which he tends to ignore)
200ml carton apple juice
Since it's Friday, today he had a homemade banana muffin as well. Chocolate, sugary drinks and crisps are all banned at his school so that does make it a bit easier.

Most of it isn't eaten anyway, since he'd rather be playing outside than eating. I can tell if playtime was rained off because his lunch box comes back empty. In fact the first thing he does when he comes home is to tell me that he didn't have enough time to eat his lunch so he had to leave most of it. I nearly complained to the school about him being made to leave his lunch, but his older brother told on him for pretending he'd finished so he'd get out early to play.

This was today's, luckily I had a photo I instagrammed this morning.

I quite often take photos of our lunchboxes Blush.

Food makes me happy.
