to still be cross about the outcome of the EU referendum?

I'm still so angry and can't forgive those who voted to leave. After the result there was much talk of how the two sides must put aside their differences but I don't feel there has been any attempt to try to appease the 48.1% of people who voted to stay. I also want to rip the head off any one who says it's the will of the people. They should be legally obligated to say it's the will of 51.9 % of the people who voted. If the vote had gone the other way you can bet that UKIP would still be making a huge fuss about it but remainers are expected to "just get over it"!

Were you on the earth shattering research team that researched the perfect cup of tea?

That one element

Thats an example of belittling

TheElementsSong · 26/01/2017 17:59

Awww, TheElementsSong, you're the "epitome" of the remainers.

I know, birdy Grin

^^

Yabbadabbo2 · 26/01/2017 18:01

Honestly its embarassing
Did people lose jobs whilst we were in the eu? Yes
Has the pound been lower whilst we were in the eu? Yes
Has inflation been higher whilst in the eu? Yes
Are there new oppurtunities to come in ghe future? Yes
Will there be challenges? Yes
Does being hysterical and anti Democratic help? No

TheElementsSong · 26/01/2017 18:04

Sorry Rufus it doesn't count as an example of "belittling someone who dares to have a different opinion" unless one of my new gurus of correct behaviour says so.

pipsqueak25 · 26/01/2017 18:07

yabba thanks for pointing out things people seem to be ignoring.
good to see corbyn now getting his mps in order too.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 26/01/2017 18:09

Aahhh

Its a brexit etiquette thing

I see

Hey wrong

Yabbadabbo2 · 26/01/2017 18:11

pip
Actually let slide my personal favourite earlier of brexit fucking kids lives up. Get a good education and highly skilled and there will always be oppurtunity. Not sure how being in the eu made having success 100% possible 100% of the time?

birdybirdywoofwoof · 26/01/2017 18:11

Does being hysterical and anti Democratic help?

That's certainly not respectful or considerate to remain voters. You don't know if I'm hysterical or not so that's a nasty put-down AND a generalization. Also what do you mean by 'anti-Democratic'? Do you mean the courts?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 26/01/2017 18:11

I honestly and truly cant see where anyone has been hysterical or anti democratic on this thread

birdybirdywoofwoof · 26/01/2017 18:13

I find being the thread police a bit boring though. I dunno how the others can stand it.

TheElementsSong · 26/01/2017 18:14

Let's be clear, "hysterical and anti Democratic" is not belittling anyone who dares to have a different opinion. OK?

Yabbadabbo2 · 26/01/2017 18:14

Also what do you mean by 'anti-Democratic'? Do you mean the courts?
I mean the failure to accept the majority of the british electorate who voted wish to leave the eu, but so many do not accept it and think the 48 have precedent over the 52.
Are some remainers hysterical damn right they are.

Yabbadabbo2 · 26/01/2017 18:17

Opening gambit
I'm still so angry and can't forgive those who voted to leave
One meaning of hysterical
irrational from fear, emotion, or an emotional shock.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 26/01/2017 18:17

Honestly, it's embarrassing that people ignore the fact that jobs are being lost because of Brexit, inflation is rising because of Brexit, the pound is at a 33 year low because of Brexit, future opportunities are declining because of Brexit, there is nothing to offer America to negotiate with (because of Brexit - er, we were the "door to the EU" we ain't right now) - it really is embarrassing.

Especially the fact that the country is teetering through the uncertainty and slipping down the GDP rankings.

Yes, the economy has grown because people are in abject denial about the extent of the uncertainty of the future of this country and have continued spending as if things will continue on as they have been. They won't.
Being realistic is not being "hysterical" nor is it un-democratic to not want to watch this country become an offshore tax haven for the rich and the rest of the country relegated to poverty or JAM.

It is a tragedy that doesn't have to happen and I won't quit working against it or talking about it just because others want to deny the reality that is right in front of them.

The loss of the best and brightest EU researchers is sad and a great loss to this country.

There is something very wrong with being unable to stand being in an equal relationship with your country's neighbours. The British (well, mainly the English) have a complex about not being Top Nation anymore. That's where Brexit comes from. The UK couldn't stand being in Europe because it was one of 28 who all had equal status.

As for whether it's a good idea or not, currently the UK is staring at a possible return to terrorism in Northern Ireland that WILL spill over to British towns and cities, purely as a result of Brexit. A woman died violently during the campaign; more innocent people will die across the UK, particularly in Northern Ireland where Leave won. That doesn't matter to Brexit supporters. Nor does the Union with Scotland. If being best means being alone, then that's what it takes.

The only people I know who voted for Brexit are Oxford-educated and work in the City and they voted for it because it will be much easier to manufacture to a lower safety standard and to diminish workers' rights, all of which means making more money. The rich will get richer, the poor will get poorer. So feel free to line up with the millionaires, the actual racists of UKIP and the far right, and suck up to Donald Trump, and watch the NHS get carved up between big US healthcare providers, and say goodbye to fripperies like maternity leave and holiday and limitations on hours you're expected to work and environmental protection, but don't expect me to support it.

We won't lose the brightest and best they will still be able to come and work. Again last time i checked we did not outlaw immigration?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 26/01/2017 18:23

Yep

Will give you anger as that is an emotion

Irrational is a bit harder to prove

Your irrational is not necessarily my irrational

Flugelpip · 26/01/2017 18:23

Dammit, I mean Remain won in Northern Ireland. They knew.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 26/01/2017 18:23

Hysteria is irrational.

Fearing losing your job because of brexit is rational. Worrying about your family is rational.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 26/01/2017 18:24

The refrerendum was not legally binding. It was not a mandate. It was advisory.

No one is obligated to trigger A50. It is not undemocratic to work towards securing the future that has been put under threat by a slipshod, ill-thought out vote.

It is undemocratic to tell people to "get over it". It is undemocratic to tell people to "deal with it and accept it"

it is the very nature of democracy that we don't have to "just accept" an advisory vote.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 26/01/2017 18:26

Yes, and do you know why yabba? Do you know why?

Do you know that it will be grinding to a halt?

Do you know that?

It's not magical thinking. I said that the economy had grown in my post.

pipsqueak25 · 26/01/2017 18:26

there is the aspect that a lot of you won't remember life before the eu as you weren't born or were children. therefore cannot possibly know what life was actually like apart from what you have read or been told. [hard hat at the ready] Smile

Bluesrunthegame · 26/01/2017 18:27

Must confess I haven't read the entire thread, but I have read quite a lot. I'm really really unhappy about Brexit, I'm writing letters to my (remain supporting - or so she said) MP, talking to friends, watching the situation closely and intend going on at least one more march. I think it's a disaster, I think we will feel the effects for years to come and I think people will look back in years to come and wonder why we did it.
