to still be cross about the outcome of the EU referendum?

I'm still so angry and can't forgive those who voted to leave. After the result there was much talk of how the two sides must put aside their differences but I don't feel there has been any attempt to try to appease the 48.1% of people who voted to stay. I also want to rip the head off any one who says it's the will of the people. They should be legally obligated to say it's the will of 51.9 % of the people who voted. If the vote had gone the other way you can bet that UKIP would still be making a huge fuss about it but remainers are expected to "just get over it"!

OP posts:
TalkinPeace · 25/01/2017 21:31

OK, would the anti EU Tories have quietly accepted the result?
Would Corbyn have accepted the results
or would they have campaigned for another vote as they have done year in year out for effing ages

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/01/2017 21:32

And Farage IS a swivel eyed loon

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/01/2017 21:33

Who knows? There is no way of being sure what people would have done. Again, what does it matter?

TalkinPeace · 25/01/2017 21:39

livia
Brexiters are telling Remainers to suck it up and accept it
when its abundantly clear - based on decades of evidence - that they would not have followed their own advice.

The Red Tape that folks like Rees-Mogg want abolished are what the rest of us call employment rights

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/01/2017 21:42

From what I can see most Brexiters (on here) would like remainers to be civil and stop with the stereotypical name calling and bullshit.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/01/2017 21:42

But does it actually matter? We don't know what the reaction would be , and if they had lost and whined then they would be no worse than the remainers who are doing it now.

LellyMcKelly · 25/01/2017 21:43

I'm still upset. I would be happy to be convinced and reassured of a golden life outside the EU, but I haven't heard a single argument beyond 'taking back control', 'protecting borders' and 'sovereignty of parliament (even though there was uproar from the Brexiters when TM tried to evade that)'. All vague, woolly statements, that mean nothing beyond a rampant xenophobia. We are going to make ourselves poorer. We are putting our jobs and homes and pensions at risk. We are being stripped of the right to freely trade, travel and work in other countries. It's mind bogglingly stupid.

myshinynewusername · 25/01/2017 21:44

If the people at the top wanted everybody to vote for the status quo, they should have made it worth voting for.

It certainly wasn't worth voting for if you live in our forgotten corner of the England.

You are blaming the wrong people, OP. Its the politicians you should be upset with. If they hadn't spent the last few decades neglecting at least half of the UK, people wouldn't have been so angry with the state of things and would have been more willing to trust Cameron and co when they said that staying in the EU was the best thing for everyone.

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/01/2017 21:45

We are being stripped of the right to freely trade, travel and work in other countries.

But this isn't true.

TalkinPeace · 25/01/2017 21:48

I used to work in customs clearance.
I can picture exactly how damaging a "hard brexit" will be on food and manufacturing and clothes and industry.
The service sector will have to relocate to the mainland to meet deadlines.
The British seem to forget that free movement cuts both ways
because French hypocrites like Rothermere or Yanks like Murdoch feed them utter lies.

People like David Davis have absolutely no clue how the EU or other parts of trade work.

The UK has always traded with the whole world
once it is outside the EU negotiated agreements, trade will be set back decades.

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/01/2017 21:54

But we will still be able to trade freely, travel and work in other countries.

I'm not saying that Brexit (in whatever form) won't have an affect.

But to state that we can't trade, travel and work in other countries is a blatant lie.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/01/2017 21:55

Like a PP said, direct your anger to the politicians on both sides - unless of course you feel better about taking it out on the nasty racist voters who are sooooooooooo mean

TalkinPeace · 25/01/2017 22:00

But we will still be able to trade freely, travel and work in other countries.
Where is your evidence for those assertions ?

India will not give a free trade deal without reciprocal visa rights
ditto Australia
ditto Canada
The USA wants to be able to sell GM corn, antibiotic beef and buy the NHS and will still restrict visa numbers

if the UK does not allow freedom to work to the rest of the EU, it will not reciprocate

The UK has the most expensive work and tourist visas in the world.
Other countries will reciprocate in kind.

FrancesNiadova · 25/01/2017 22:05

I'm gutted. Still, who needs any sort of Court of Human Rights? Donald' s our friend, taking back control... Confused

GraceGrape · 25/01/2017 22:06

Do those remainers who still feel bitter about the result forget that the EU has only existed for 23 years, and that the UK was fine (arguably better) before its formation?

The UK was widely known as "the sick man of Europe" before we joined the EEC, due to our dire economy, which was why we were so desperate to join.

ManaFleet · 25/01/2017 22:07

Absolutely with you OP. I cannot forgive the utter fuckwittery of voting out then wailing about it the very next day with

"But it was just a protest vote"
"But I didn't think they would win"
"I was just angry"

All these people deserve our anger.

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/01/2017 22:09

TalkinPeace

So you are saying that we will be able trade with other countries as part of trade deals and that we will be able to travel and work in other countries as long as we have the correct paperwork.

So we aren't being stripped of anything, there are just going to be different terms attached.

WrongTrouser · 25/01/2017 22:15

Lelly There have been countless posters on MN articulating well thought through arguments for leave. If you search the internet, there are many articles and blogs likewise. There are even some books.

WrongTrouser · 25/01/2017 22:18

Strange how the polls pretty consistently show that people haven't shifted from 52:48 though, isn't it?

TalkinPeace · 25/01/2017 22:20

Yes, there will be trade.
Initially under the WTO rules with standard tariffs.
So anything imported and exported across the channel will return to
the good old days of C88 and T2 forms.
the joy of demurrage
the hassle of deferrment VAT
the stress of turnout and tally
and journeys from Germany to Birmingham changing from one day to five or six days

the fact that lettuce that currently flies in customs free from Spain will be delayed for a day or two and cost 10% more because of the tariffs
and another 10% more because of wastage

British people really do not understand the hassle they are about to face.
I only became British recently so have had a lifetime of it.
Hence why I voted to hopefully not bring it back

jellyfrizz · 25/01/2017 22:22

The same pollsters that said it was definitely going to be Remain?

Pluto30 · 25/01/2017 22:28

Welcome to the real world. You don't get to take without giving in return.

Australia have said they are willing to increase trade and work out some sort of deal, but you're having a whinge because it doesn't come without the UK having to reciprocate?

sluj · 25/01/2017 22:31

Wow. There are an awful lot of people on here who say they are leaving the UK because they believe a disaster is about to happen. I'd like to ask genuinely if anyone has started the process of relocating? We've had 6 months so I'm thinking a lot of people must be quite advanced in their plans to leave. Anyone ?

WrongTrouser · 25/01/2017 22:43

The same pollsters that said it was definitely going to be Remain?

If "shy leavers" are still a factor (as they seem to have been just before the referendum) then the proportion of the population supporting leave has probably increased.

YourOtherLeft · 25/01/2017 22:46

Brexit is a gateway policy to an increasingly right-wing England. The biggest single demographic who voted Brexit is people with right-wing politics. "Liberal" is a proxy term for "centrist". The EU is a broadly centrist organisation, which is the real reason many right-wingers voted us out, and why right-wingers across Europe want their nations to do the same. A lot has been said about trade deals, but the reason TTIP has failed is because Europe is not right-wing enough. We will get trade deals outside of the EU, but they will be less favourable for the typical employee or public service user than would otherwise have been the case if we had remained. The right-wing narrative is that bringing money into the country is all that matters, and so Brexit is not a problem. But what is the value of money to the majority if it is concentrated in the hands of a small number of people? A vote for Brexit was a vote to increase the gap between the rich and the poor in the UK.
