to still be cross about the outcome of the EU referendum?

I'm still so angry and can't forgive those who voted to leave. After the result there was much talk of how the two sides must put aside their differences but I don't feel there has been any attempt to try to appease the 48.1% of people who voted to stay. I also want to rip the head off any one who says it's the will of the people. They should be legally obligated to say it's the will of 51.9 % of the people who voted. If the vote had gone the other way you can bet that UKIP would still be making a huge fuss about it but remainers are expected to "just get over it"!

What WrongTrouser said. It's pathetic - what are you all doing to actually change things?

birdybirdywoofwoof · 25/01/2017 17:41

No, nor is it terribly respectful to be told remainers are all whining, crying, sitting on their arse. As for your anecdote about the sex offender, I mean wtf? Did anyone actually say to you no remainers are cunts? It would be a peculiar argument.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 25/01/2017 17:42

what are you all doing to actually change things?

Several remainers have posted actions to take on this thread several times. I posted a link and someone else posted direct action steps and someone else posted a march twice.

tangerino · 25/01/2017 17:48

FWIW I'm still absolutely furious, terrified about the economic and social effects, and horrified about how low the standard of debate was on both sides. Plus flabbergasted by the ignorance constantly on display from pro-Leave MPs since the referendum (IDS, anyone?) Feel as if our country has been handed on a plate to a bunch of right wing idealogues who don't give a damn about the poor sods they conned into voting for them.

I don't blame the Leave voters particularly. Politicians and tabloids have been using the EU as a whipping boy for decades. How Cameron thought he could expect everyone to vote to Remain, given that, plus years of austerity, plus general worries about migration of all kinds (EU, non-EU, refugees etc, which Farage etc shamefully sought to conflate), plus a Labour leader still living in the 70s/80s, I have no idea.

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/01/2017 18:11

birdybirdywoofwoof

Have you forgotten the threads calling brexiters names? (justified by remainers that said it was ok because they were angry)
Have you forgotten the vitriol that was and still is being spread about brexiters?
Have you forgotten the remainers threads of "we are over it, why won't brexiters talk"? Then those that did got ripped to shreds.
Or the threads by remainers moaning that brexiters weren't showing them respect?

remainers on MN lost the moral high ground on respect and name calling along time ago.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/01/2017 18:46

I was making the point that just because some people on each side are cunts, doesn't mean that they all are. Sorry if that was too complex a concept.

I voted stay and wasn't happy with the result but I don't think that everyone who disagrees with me is evil or stupid

Pluto30 · 25/01/2017 18:48

Yes but we are going to be on outside - we won't be able to benefit from being part of a greater whole.

Many countries aren't a part of the EU and seem to be faring well; some states within the EU have plunged deeper into decline since 2008; some states within the EU seem to have all the responsibility of pulling the others out of the shit.

There aren't only benefits to being in the EU, and not being in the EU doesn't mean that you won't find a new set of benefits.

fakenamefornow · 25/01/2017 19:41

None of these things give them the right to call me and other leavers racist, just because we voted leave.

Most leave voters I know ARE racist though. At a guess I'd say about 60-70% of them. Some of the comments I've had to listen to-

The sooner they all go home the better.
They should shut down all the mosques, they don't have any churches in Saudi Arabia.
They (Polish people) just come over here and sign on.
They (Romanian people) just chuck rubbish out all over the street like animals.
They (Polish, again) claim CB for kids they don't even have.
Some towns in England are 95% forgieners now.
They won't learn English and expect us to learn their language.

I could go on but I think you get the picture.

Not to mention all the British first shite they share on the internet.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/01/2017 19:43

So 60-70% of the leavers that you know? And how many millions of people does that entail?

fakenamefornow · 25/01/2017 19:59

About 8, all my older family. I've posted about their racism a few times over the last year. I even thought about going no contact with my mum because I hate her racism so much. They've always been racist, my whole life, their friends were as well when I was young. I remember one of them telling me when I was young that I'd probably end up with a 'big black man, because you love them so much' and then the room fell about with howls of laughter.

Actually, thinking about it some other people I know have said quite racist comments post referendum. Not out-and-out racist, just a bit questionable.

WrongTrouser · 25/01/2017 19:59

Then call those people racist for saying racist things. Don't call other people racist who haven't said or done anything racist.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/01/2017 20:00

So 60-70% of 8 people are racist so that means everyone else is? Hmm

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 25/01/2017 20:00

Then call those people racist for saying racist things. Don't call other people racist who haven't said or done anything racist.

^ this

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 25/01/2017 20:02

Most leave voters I know ARE racist though. At a guess I'd say about 60-70% of them

Since how many out of 17million do you know then?

Are you also saying that none of those that voted remain are racist?

Timetogetup0630 · 25/01/2017 20:05

I too am still angry and depressed.
It's a horrible mess and It's going to take another 50 years to sort out the details and re-draft all the legislation that affects our life Day to day.
My OH Is a US Citizen. I don't even feel I have the option to move to the USA now that lunatic is in power.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/01/2017 20:06

Piglet She has a sample of 60-70% of 8 people so it's pretty conclusive HmmGrin

Olympiathequeen · 25/01/2017 20:08

But Remainers don't show any signs of just getting over it!

They go on and on. They name call people who dared to express their democratic right to vote Leave.

They talk themselves onto some spurious moral high ground.

And bring expensive court cases which will ultimately change nothing. lawyers did well out of it though

Post threads in AIBU despite having a Brexit section all to themselves to bemoan their fate to like minded Remainers. and bore people like me to death

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/01/2017 20:10

Still at least that nice Mr Corbyn, so beloved on MN, is fighting for the Remainers.. oh wait....

WrongTrouser · 25/01/2017 20:11

A few definitions, in case they are relevant to this discussion.

Bigot:
A person who has strong, unreasonable beliefs and who does not like other people who have different beliefs or a different way of life

Sterotype:
A stereotype is a preconceived notion, especially about a group of people

Racism:
Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

extrabiotin · 25/01/2017 20:13

The Brexit has really worked.

In ensuring the UK will be forever a divided country.

And there will be no way back from this division, unless in ten years time everyone is super wealthy and protected by similar directives that exist now.

Olympiathequeen · 25/01/2017 20:24

Extra. We are not super wealthy now within the EU? Why would we be super wealthy outside?

Can't our government manage health and safety, food standards and other directives? Maybe with less beurocracy and more consultation (which we get little of now). To be 'directed' by unelected members is not something I want anymore.

fakenamefornow · 25/01/2017 20:26

Piglet She has a sample of 60-70% of 8 people so it's pretty conclusive

No, the 8 people are all proper out-and-out racists, I know a few more people above that number who also voted Leave.

Most leave voters I know ARE racist though. At a guess I'd say about 60-70% of them

Are you also saying that none of those that voted remain are racist?

I can't think of anything overtly racist the Remain voters I know have said. Not that I can remember anyway, I'll have a think.

Yes, most leave voters I know are racist, I don't claim to know all 17 million of them.

Olympiathequeen · 25/01/2017 20:30

60-70% racist? You must know some pretty sad people.

So you know me and know I am a racist?

Despite fighting for equality and supporting anti apartheid movements since I was a child?

Some totally ridiculous statements are made on MN but that one takes the Biscuit

TalkinPeace · 25/01/2017 20:31

Farage said in May that 52:48 would not be a mandate

hold him to his word

Pluto30 · 25/01/2017 20:31

fake It's not racist to want stricter controls over immigration and proper vetting of immigrants... But carry on.
