to still be cross about the outcome of the EU referendum?

I'm still so angry and can't forgive those who voted to leave. After the result there was much talk of how the two sides must put aside their differences but I don't feel there has been any attempt to try to appease the 48.1% of people who voted to stay. I also want to rip the head off any one who says it's the will of the people. They should be legally obligated to say it's the will of 51.9 % of the people who voted. If the vote had gone the other way you can bet that UKIP would still be making a huge fuss about it but remainers are expected to "just get over it"!

Stop being so goddamn fucking rude. How can you ever expect people to ask questions, educate themselves, if you just snort, belittle and call names?

I agree. Someone asked for clarification- and was open in saying they are willing to be corrected or to be informed.

Why alienate someone who is open to learning and who is willing to be told they don't have the facts correct? What good is the name calling doing?

We haven't left yet, we haven't triggered article 50. The referendum was advisory not binding. We don't have a direct democracy.
This is a brilliant article for those who want to continue to work against leaving: www.theneweuropean.co.uk/top-stories/this_is_a_c_grayling_s_ultimate_guide_to_defeating_brexit_and_why_the_eu_is_worth_fighting_for_1_4844381

DebbieDownersDesperatelyGraspingAtStraws,

What happened in Brussel sounds sadly similar to the way British authorites ignored warning signs leading to the July 7th attacks.

Following your logic, this should call us all to immediately disband the UK.

ScruffbagsRUs · 25/01/2017 12:52

Just seen this video. It makes for some interesting points on Brexit.

Nice.

Musicinthe00ssucks · 25/01/2017 13:11

day after the vote the UK hasn't collapsed
Because we haven't left the EU!

So why are people up thread thrashing and moaning that their lives and their children's lives have been ruined forever and they will never get over it? Why are people using examples that Companies are moving abroad when they haven't yet? It's all conjecture

TSSDNCOP · 25/01/2017 13:17

I voted Remain. I took DS9 with me to the Polling Station and explained that in a recent General Election people had voted in a party that had promised a European Referendum vote. It was a yes/no decision and the side with the most votes would determine what happened next. I explained how democracy works, that it often doesn't happen in many countries and why we are lucky in the UK that we have the right to be heard.

The vote did not go "my"way and frankly I was amazed. But for all the reasons I explained to DS it is what I must accept.

I don't think either side was honest in the run up to the vote, I am not sure either are now.

But the point is that democracy was served and you just can quibble with that or you open a far, far bigger can of worms.

Plus, any vote in Parliament must surely reflect the way that an MP's constituency voted because like it or not that reflects that constituencies opinion. If my MP voted against the opinion of his constituency I would do my fucking nut and he would not get my vote again.

DebbieDownersDesperatelyGraspingAtStraws,

Here we go again with the insults if people disagree by the mocking of names for a "laugh." Just why? What in your head thinks that's the way people will come around to your way of thinking?! Confused
Can you seriously not see that the constant mocking, alienating and shouting down is what is driving people away and to alternative views?

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 25/01/2017 13:22

Erm it's not all conjecture. We are at the beginning of an economic cycle. The pound has crashed this triggers inflation. The job market stagnates, price of goods and services are increasing. This is happening now. The effects aren't being felt yet as we are on the cusp but the poor will be poorer and the poor will be bit he hardest as their money will not buy as much in real terms.

This is not conjecture. It is sound (and basic) economics. This is entirely off the back of Brexit. The pound was strong the day before the vote, inflation low.

Aspiringcatlady · 25/01/2017 13:23

I feel exactly the same.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 25/01/2017 13:30

Remain voters, remoaners, are so nasty on MN!

Leave voters by contrast are just desperate to have a sensible debate here about the eu, immigration and the economy.

Stop whining and get over it.Biscuit

Grin

Such double standards.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 25/01/2017 13:32

It will all take so long to really bite, and be so over-determined by the time it does, that I doubt Leave voters will ever have a moment where they think 'fuck! We fucked everything for everyone, including ourselves!'

Or you hear rationalization like 'well, HSBC are probably just angry about the vote and being peevish'. And presumably Leave voters didn't want their children and grandchildren to work or study abroad anyway.

glitterazi · 25/01/2017 13:44

Stop whining and get over it.biscuit

grin

Such double standards.

That's not personal insults, though is it? Mocking names, saying "dearie me" and "educate yourself!" when someone asks questions and blatantly wants to be educated otherwise wouldn't have bloody asked in the first place, is hardly the same as a general saying of stop whining and get over it.
To blatantly disregard a result, want it overturned as it didn't go the "right" way, shout down and call people thick, completely flies in the face of everything you presumably are for - freedom of speech, democracy etc.
So, yes, some people really need to accept that they can't always "win" and stop being such bloody sore losers.
I say this as a Remain voter as well, even if people choose not to believe me!

Deadsouls · 25/01/2017 13:46

No I don't think YABU.
The whole thing is idiotic and didn't need to happen.

Musicinthe00ssucks · 25/01/2017 13:53

So why are you contradicting yourself with your "That's because we haven't left yet" comment, to the comment that the UK hasn't collapsed?

There is also the fact that the economy grew by 0.6 percent during the period July-December.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 25/01/2017 13:57

Personal insults should be reported and deleted. It's not difficult. Confused I must have missed them on this thread.

I don't want to disregard or overturn the result so I dunno who you are talking to there either.

I do understand tho 'dearie me' 'educate yourself' very very bad things to say- 'stop whining', remoaner, 'sore loser' etc all perfectly acceptable.

HookandSwan · 25/01/2017 14:01

You are being unreasonable we live in a democracy and people voted as they saw fit.
Ppl who voted to leave don't want or need your forgiveness...

I'm so beyond fed up of the nastiness that has sprung from this brexit vote.
I've seen ppl call others racist, idiots, that they deserve to die. And I'm over it. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and a fair vote and that's what happened.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 25/01/2017 14:02

Music - it's because the UK manifestly hasn't 'collapsed', yet at the same time, the pound did crash, and this was because of the referendum result and the uncertainty and fear it caused in the markets even before Brexit happens.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 25/01/2017 14:03

o why are you contradicting yourself with your "That's because we haven't left yet" comment, to the comment that the UK hasn't collapsed?

The economy hasn't collapsed! I didn't contradict myself. The economy isn't on the verge of collapsing - the crash of the pound, the rise of inflation, the increase in the consumer prices - that is a gradual process that will affect the poor first.

There is a big difference between a collapsed economy and an increasing CPI (consumer price index).

If A50 is triggered then the pound will definitely decline further. It fluctuates on the whim of politics right now in this volatile time - in times of economic stability the pound doesn't swing on the whim of the PM's speeches!

birdybirdywoofwoof · 25/01/2017 14:03

Yes, what's happening to Gina miller is horrendous I'm sure we all agree.

IloveJudgeJudy · 25/01/2017 14:04

Haven't RTWT, but I feel like you, OP and many of the first couple of dozen posters. DS1, for example, is studying abroad with Erasmus, which is mostly EU based. My younger DS probably won't get the same chance. When I visited DS1 the people in that country I spoke to and the media were nearly all sorrowful about the vote and couldn't comprehend why we'd voted that way.

Two of my DBS voted leave, but for political reasons; those won't be addressed as won't most of the reasons people voted leave. The NHS won't be better off, we'll still have many immigrants.

I felt very down after the vote and tbh I'm not sure I'll ever get over it. I loved being part of Europe.

Musicinthe00ssucks · 25/01/2017 14:05

I'm not denying that the pound crashed but all the negative 'project fear' and Brexit bashing in the media et al is certainly not helping is it?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 25/01/2017 14:12

I loved being part of Europe.

We still will be part of Europe. We aren't changing continents!
