to be pissed at my husband for not telling me when to stop shopping?

So my husband and I had an agreement three years ago that he will set aside £900 per month for savings immediately. And that he'd tell me if I'm going overboard with spending. Since I don't manage money well, he takes care of it.

Anyway admittedly sometimes I go overboard (although I return a lot of what I buy) but I keep asking him and he just says he has money.

So now I just found out all we have is $2500, which will go to card payment and my summer class tuition fee.

His salary is £49000 net. We rent, we don't have a car, we have no kids. He has no vices, although he did have a tooth implant and root canal procedure last year which cost a lot.

I don't work but I have an internship that pays a bit, which I put in a savings account - so essentially that's our only savings.

I am pissed because I wasn't expecting this. So if he gets sacked from his job for any reason we won't have money.

Is this thread for real?

OnionKnight · 19/01/2017 07:04

Okay, where is your internship money and why are you not contributing with that? It seems terribly one sided TBH.

Rickandmorty · 19/01/2017 07:05

You don't have enough money to be buying £1000 of frivolous items each month and saving £900. You can't do that.
Are you in the uk? There are a lot of places that you can do money courses to learn how to budget.

OnionKnight · 19/01/2017 07:05

It sounds like you are addicted to spending money, that is a dangerous path to go down and you need to take responsibility.

MadHattersWineParty · 19/01/2017 07:06

I'm not great with maths or money OP.

However I do know if I buy something like a $1000 leather jacket, I've probably 'gone overboard' and I'd be spending my own money and still think that

Kathmandu12 · 19/01/2017 07:06

Because he said put it in my rewards savings account. I did not decide this - he did.

If you do not believe, it's fine.

Stop saying you are "bad with money". It's simple adding up. You just add up the prices of the stuff you buy. Set a limit. Stop when you've reached it. What on earth is hard about that? "Money" is not some mysterious entity.

LemonyFresh · 19/01/2017 07:06

Why don't you cut up the credit card and take out a certain amount in cash, then you know how much you're spending.

Rickandmorty · 19/01/2017 07:06

Just seen you're not in the uk but my point still sgabds

Kathmandu12 · 19/01/2017 07:06

Rickandmorty

It's in AUD, not £. I'm in Australia.

It's better to focus on how you deal with your own situation onwards, it doesn't matter what this or that anonymous individual here on mumsnet thinks of you. You can't change the past, only change your behaviour in the future. Good luck with the book.

RebelRogue · 19/01/2017 07:07

Bad with money translates into i'm lazy and can't be arsed to take responsibility. So you expect your OH to. This is stupid...

Kathmandu12 · 19/01/2017 07:07

Stop saying you are "bad with money". It's simple adding up.

I meant, when I like something, I impulse buy.

From a 49k salary covering 2 people you thought there was 2.5k left over each month? But that's 30k a year. So 19k covers tax and all essentials?

Doesn't stack up

rollonthesummer · 19/01/2017 07:08

This is not his fault-it's yours! Stop blaming him as it makes you sound about 12. Cut up the cards and just pay for things in cash.

Kathmandu12 · 19/01/2017 07:08

Yes, I agree.

OnionKnight · 19/01/2017 07:08

Okay your money is in a savings account? I presume you haven't spunked it? In which case you're only bad with your husband's money.

Bluntness100 · 19/01/2017 07:08

He said that's my happiness - shopping.>>

WTAF. 🙄

Sorry op, this is one of the more bizzare threads on here and that's saying something,

Rickandmorty · 19/01/2017 07:08

Yes. So if you get 49000 net dollars and you spend 1000 on tat and 900 savings you still need to keep a look on finances for the rest of the month. Yes, it's a good salary but you can't just spend spend spend and expect someone else to tell you when to stop. You do need to grow up and take responsibility for your own actions.

MadHattersWineParty · 19/01/2017 07:08

So what are you going to do OP?

Kathmandu12 · 19/01/2017 07:09

From a 49k salary covering 2 people you thought there was 2.5k left over each month? But that's 30k a year. So 19k covers tax and all essentials?

2.5k AUD.

Salary is £49k NET.

OP posts:
Kathmandu12 · 19/01/2017 07:10

Yes. So if you get 49000 net dollars and you spend 1000 on tat and 900 savings

No, basically we get around $7000+ net per month. The rent is around $1600, bills are around $800.

This is ridiculous. You sound like a five year old child. My 13 year old manages his money better than you do. Stop being such a spoiled princess and take responsibility for yourself. Why should your DH manage your spending habit. Manage it yourself!
