To be frustrated with the teeny tiny crotch sizes on women's knickers?

Having insomniac musings tonight.

Does anyone else find that knickers bought from high street stores must be made for female Borrowers, the crotch part is so bloody tiny! I relented and threw away 4 pairs today that are very uncomfortable. It's impossible to get a sanitary towel on most of them, and I'm sick of scuttling to the loo the pull out my 'front wedgie'. Who are these women with teeny tiny vulvas? I wouldn't dare wear a thong, the crotch parts are only about half an inch thick! Where can I buy a nice firm and ample gusset at the grand old age of 30?

OR

does no one else at all have his problem and I just have a very large vajayjay? Confused

M&S low rise short in multi pack are my go-to gusset of choice

What a lovely phrase. You've sold them to me, Audrey Grin

Amethyst81 · 18/01/2017 09:24

Granny pant wearer here! Good ole M&S full briefs in cotton. Not sexy in the slightest but comfy and good coverage and keeps away whispers thrush.

vixo · 18/01/2017 10:09

And this is why mumsnet is great! Lots of useful information on something you wouldn't normally discuss (well I don't, anyway - maybe I should raise the issue of narrow gussets in the playground next time I do the school run and see what everyone says!).

I'm an m&s multipack buyer too. Disappointingly though, my most most recent ones seem to be a different size/fit, despite saying they're the same thing and manage to be baggy around the bum whilst also still disappearing up my arse crack from time to time - a frustrating combination!

Purplebluebird · 18/01/2017 10:15

I am reasonably small, so the knickers are fine - but yes they won't fit a pad at all. I buy mine from Primark at the moment, they are sooo comfy. Always used Topshop in the past though.

Bloopbleep · 18/01/2017 10:20

I must have a tiny vulva as I can't say I've noticed this problem.... now the arse end, that's a different story.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 18/01/2017 10:20

M&S high legs.
(Although to my frustration, I can't get small cupped bras with matching full briefs). I don't care how pretty pants are if they keep disappearing where the sun doesn't shine.

Sainsburys full briefs were good when I had a new, tender CS wound!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 18/01/2017 10:22

My absolute favourites are M&S high leg seamless in black, not something I can always find in the right size (or even at all!) but they're the best. I don't like knickers that come up to or over my belly button, but I can't be doing with bikini knickers either. Can't remember what the in-betweens are called, is that the mid rise ones? or midis? Those, anyway - I like those.

DJBaggySmalls · 18/01/2017 10:22

I liked the low rise shorts but they rode up my bum when I wore jeans. Now I'm wearing George from Asda minis. They have a 2" gusset.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 18/01/2017 10:24

tesco shorts here too...and not the ones that say they are seamless either, because the have a seam at the waistband AND a seam at the gusset....one day I will crack and sue them for their outrageous lies!

the 2 for a fiver, usually black, sometime a vile nude (i do not buy those) sometimes you get a fancy colour or a sparkly waistband or even a pretty ribbon bow .

and do not be tempted to buy the ones in Peacocks that look exactly the same...they are not. They only stretch width ways and they will manage to roll up your crevices and down alllllllllll at the same time.

HardcoreLadyType · 18/01/2017 10:24

I wear Calvin Klein shorts. They are very comfortable, and because they are "designer" I can kid myself that they're not "granny pants". Wink

GeorgiePeachie · 18/01/2017 10:28

I don't care about bum coverage although I wear bikini briefs from primark most of the time. But its the gusset thats the problem, not the coverage surely.

I'm happy to wear a thong is the gusset is wide enough to cover.

Twoevils · 18/01/2017 10:32

John Lewis do a pack of 5 cotton briefs with good coverage and decent elastics. Nude or black only. My go to brief and you can pick them up in Waitrose.

My daughter will only wear M&S white cotton boys shorts (not baggy). They don't have the willy hole just an extra white panel at the front so are not too boyish when it comes to P.E. changing. They look comfortable and I wish they did them big enough for me to try.

whatsthebigdeal · 18/01/2017 10:38

Sainsburys, I buy the shorts, pack of 5 £6 (or £3 if you're lucky enough to get them in the sale)
Cotton, very comfy, lots of nice colours plain/patterns

1000hobnobs · 18/01/2017 10:45

Yes to the m&s short multipacks. Inoffensive, no wedgies. I run in them with no ill effect, they're fantastic.

MusicToMyEars800 · 18/01/2017 10:48

I agree, I don't like strings up my crack or thongs, they are uncomfortable and unhygienic! I like a good pair of laced brazillian knickers and French knickers are nice too, can't beat a good pair of apple catchers either, but I have the same problem where it becomes the great flap escape, I was convinced that I must just have a fat fanny Grin but I am glad to see I am not the only one

EggysMom · 18/01/2017 10:49

I'm having the opposite problem with Primark size 18-20 full briefs - the gusset is actually wider than a sanitary towel!

MollyRedskirts · 18/01/2017 10:50

I love this thread. This has been bugging me for ages.

I favour massive granny pants because the gusset is adequate, but I've recently lost weight and had to drop a size. The knickers aren't that much smaller but the gussets are. FFS, I lost a bit of weight off my stomach, my fanny is still the same edging size and always will be.

MollyRedskirts · 18/01/2017 10:50

Edging = effing

MollyRedskirts · 18/01/2017 10:52

EggysMom, they're the exact size and pants I was wearing for ages. I know what you mean, but I had horrendous periods and they were perfect for those massive Kotex pads.

SquedgieBeckenheim · 18/01/2017 10:54

Thought it was just me that had noticed this! Blush had to chuck the last lot of pants I bought as even though they're the shorty style they keep giving me a front wedgie!

roseteapot101 · 18/01/2017 11:08

sainburys granny panties are wonderfully comfy

mistressWiseGuy · 18/01/2017 11:11

I don't have a problem with front wedgies but I do find some pairs of knickers barely cover my pubes because they are too narrow over the crotch. Is this just me?

MrsHathaway · 18/01/2017 11:17

FFS, I lost a bit of weight off my stomach, my fanny is still the same effing size and always will be.

Well now. I wonder if actually my pelvis is wider post-DC (SPD/PGP and three vaginal deliveries).

And it's not even necessarily that the gusset isn't wide enough, but that it isn't the same shape as my body so it digs in there and doesn't cover there and that's before you even look at the shape of sanitary towels.

HairyLittlePoet · 18/01/2017 11:25

No to thongs
no to shorts
no to Brazilians

They all ride up, burrow, embed.

Who decided that women don't deserve comfortable bottom coverage? Seriously, why aren't the mainstream knickermakers producing knickers that cover front and back, hold a pad in place and don't burrow into crevices like some tropical parasitic larvae?

This is hardly a niche request.

MollyRedskirts · 18/01/2017 11:26

Heh, SPD put me in a wheelchair. I'm quite grateful my pelvis has recovered. I never even thought about it changing, but I did a lot of hard physiology. I don't think it's changed much.
