Is MN website insecure again? Anyone else got this?

MsJamieFraser · 17/01/2017 21:07

I'm using MN on my Chromebook, its telling me the site is insecure, as does my iphone when I am using it, I have a logo which is a circle with the letter i inside.

I've goggled the icon, and it states that I am on a insecure site and could be hacked, I've ran my computer protection and I am fine, I have cleared cache.

Its only on MN that I have this logo, everything else I use is secured with the HTTPS green lock.

After the hacking scandal, I'm wondering if MN has applied for their security certificate to make to run the website securely? because I have tried everything else and that's what google is saying that MN is not secure?

FFS. I'm not lying, imagining it, or clueless.

The site has recently not been secure. I'm not the only one to have said it.

TheWoodlander · 18/01/2017 11:25

I've just looked again - it is now https and secure on the log in page. But it wasn't when I checked yesterday. V weird.

Btw - I also get the thing where the page 'jumps' - often just as I'm trying to click on 'Active' - the end result is that I end up clicking on the advert above it. I thought it might be deliberate Wink but it is v annoying.

prh47bridge · 18/01/2017 11:30

I am not saying you are lying, imagining it or clueless. I am saying that some browsers will warn that Mumsnet is insecure even if the login form is actually secure.

Look at the source code for the login page. If it says '

WellErrr · 18/01/2017 11:35

Yes, you ARE saying I'm clueless.

It was http, not https - as I have repeatedly said. This means that it was NOT SECURE.

WellErrr · 18/01/2017 11:36

I've also said, along with others, that RIGHT NOW it is secure.
But before, a few days ago for me, it WAS NOT. I do understand what 'secure' means in this context.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/01/2017 11:38

WellErr Not saying you are clueless. Bridge is saying that while the login page is insecure the actual boxes that you out your username and password into are secure.

This is very bad practice though, and login pages should always be created so that the browser recognises them as secure to save this sort of confusion and uncertainty.

WellErrr · 18/01/2017 11:51

Yes. It is exactly as you describe it Its - now.
Before, BEFORE - the ENTIRE THING was insecure.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 18/01/2017 12:06

Slower than an arthritic snail at the moment....

BeyondTheStarryNight · 18/01/2017 13:18

If it wasn't insecure, it's weird that it is coinciding with porn and spammy redirects. Which would suggest it is insecure, no?

extrabiotin · 18/01/2017 13:23

@Agerbilatemycrdigan

Thanks for the confirmation of that, was just about to ask you all if you were experiencing a mega slowdown too.

Brieandgrapes · 18/01/2017 13:32

If it's secure why did I get pop up porn when using MN on my iPad last night? There does seem to be something odd going on that MN IT should look into asap.

mathanxiety · 18/01/2017 17:47

I went on www.isitdownrightnow.com/mumsnet.com.html because it took so long to get the home screen. Response time was 2.05 minutes for this site.

wasonthelist · 18/01/2017 17:56

Still slower than a slow thing, never mind MNHQ will be along with another patronising comment in a day or two (maybe).

Lynnm63 · 18/01/2017 18:19

I don't have a lock, every other site I go on has a lock. This site is so slow whereas other sites are much quicker. Pages are still super slow to load and I'm getting loads of adverts and redirects. I'm on an iPad on safari not the app. Haven't had porn....yet.
I wasn't really using mumsnet regularly during the last attack, I'd lurked but hadn't joined.

atheistmantis · 18/01/2017 18:22

Chrome (laptop) and Safari (ipad) are both telling me that the site is insecure.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 18/01/2017 18:34

Noticeably slow here, too (Chrome).

Have also been redirected a couple of times, but their attempts failed before I could note details.

Never had any problems before on this site. In fact, it's normally above average speed.

Having read everyone's security concerns, I double-checked that my anti-virus/ malware/ phishing protection (Norton 360, always excellent) wasn't flagging up anything. Nothing dubious to report so far, but it does repeatedly warn me it's an unsecured site.

Not sure if I need to do anything else? Or avoid Mumsnet until more info available? (Am admittedly tech clueless).

No unsolicited porn at least!

Please reassure us, Mumsnet Tech Dept.

SpartacusWoman · 18/01/2017 18:50

I'm on ipad using safari, got a few timeout errors last night but today has been fine for me, I also havent had any porn pop ups but I think that may be down to weblock.

Was really slow this morning on chrome on android most of the day though.

echt · 18/01/2017 19:25

And the font's just changed.

Boogers · 18/01/2017 20:39

LouMumsnet thanks for the link and all but in the nicest possible way I'm not reading 263 posts on a two week old thread. Something is obviously wrong with the Mumsnet site. This has been going on for a while. Many users have taken screenshots and described exactly the problem, including the device and browser used.

You may assert that passwords and personal information is safe but this was also said in the Jeff attack, and look what happened there.

Mumsnet is slow to the point of early 21st century dial up. You're losing clicks (and revenue), not us. We just give up and read something else.

Are your tech team actually addressing the problem? And yes, I have turned my phone off and back on again!

JennyHolzersGhost · 18/01/2017 21:24

Just posted this on the 'slow' thread but posting here too:

MN - I've said this before and so I hesitate to say it again in case you ban me for nagging Grin but, very succinctly:

  1. you have a communications problem;

  2. you have a tech problem.

Please let me know if you are actually listening to us and I will elaborate. Otherwise I'm not typing it all out yet again.

wasonthelist · 18/01/2017 21:49

I don't care if I get banned for nagging - site's pretty much unusable anyway.

TheWoodlander · 18/01/2017 22:14

It is unbearably slow tonight. ~And I mean unbearable. I keep giving up and closing the whole thing down Shock Then I try again, a while 2 minutes later - same again.

The ads are really annoying, jaunty, moving, taking up practically the whole page, tricking me to click on them when the screen "jumps" - I know I could put adblock on, but when I tried that, I wasn't able to watch 4OD Angry

PerspicaciaTick · 18/01/2017 22:18

I'm usually pretty supportive of MNHQ moving in their mysterious ways, but this time I'm not impressed. Everything external to MN says "this site is insecure" and I am trying to be responsible and cautious. So far MNHQ are saying "it'll be fine, no problem, just ignore the warnings you are getting".

Why should I ignore the warnings? Why is MN a special case where it is fine to ignore warnings that I take seriously for other sites?

Oldieandgoldie · 18/01/2017 22:18

Literally just got redirected to porn site...'would you like to share my photos?'. Was so unexpected I closed site down without screen shotting..sorry.
On iPad.
