Is MN website insecure again? Anyone else got this?

MsJamieFraser · 17/01/2017 21:07

I'm using MN on my Chromebook, its telling me the site is insecure, as does my iphone when I am using it, I have a logo which is a circle with the letter i inside.

I've goggled the icon, and it states that I am on a insecure site and could be hacked, I've ran my computer protection and I am fine, I have cleared cache.

Its only on MN that I have this logo, everything else I use is secured with the HTTPS green lock.

After the hacking scandal, I'm wondering if MN has applied for their security certificate to make to run the website securely? because I have tried everything else and that's what google is saying that MN is not secure?

Are "they" after our passwords again? What do they do with them

People unfortunately often use either the same or very similar passwords across various sites. If they can get into people's email, for example, they can get into a hell of a lot of other things because of password reset facilities sending new password links to said email.

MsJamieFraser · 18/01/2017 00:17

Just to clarify I am not saying this is a phishing attack, it just feels like this is another attack, and MN went very quiet then, lots of threads been reported, however no feedback on them.

Does not help either when we are being told the site is secure when evidence states otherwise.

Jamie - I get green, TLS 1.2 - but very slow for me too.

Champagneformyrealfriends · 18/01/2017 00:21

Not showing as secure on mine either.

Lynnm63 · 18/01/2017 00:23

I don't seem to have any lock symbol. I'm on an iPad, should I have one and if so where should it be?

PaulAnkaTheDog · 18/01/2017 00:28

I had to login either yesterday or the day before. I put it down to my iPad maybe having an update but just thought I'd mention it on this thread.

MrTumblesbitch · 18/01/2017 00:34

I also don't have the lock symbol anymore. I was on the list of passwords taken last time so changed my log in info to a completely different email address & pw I use just for mumsnet. Still makes me twitchy though. Any update from tech?

BeyondTheStarryNight · 18/01/2017 00:39

Lynn, it'd be in the address bar...

Hang on, shouldn't it be https all the time now? Most other websites seem to these days. I'm not really sure what the benefit of this is, but it makes sense - especially as you have a username entry form on the comment box!

Especially alarming if it's not https on the login page, though.

BeyondTheStarryNight · 18/01/2017 00:40

...see, none for mumsnet

I am also finding the site very slow today. I am on a PC, Windows OS.

I have Kaspersky and it hasn't given me any notifications.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 18/01/2017 00:58

It has been slow here too for a couple of days, and getting the double tappy thing.

On a chromebook.

kali110 · 18/01/2017 00:59

Really slow for me lAst few days, often says can't connect to server.

DailyFaily had the same thing, you've won a free iphone.

Brieandgrapes · 18/01/2017 01:10

Its been slow for me too. But I just clicked on a thread and a porn site came up. Shock I couldnt use back arrow, had to close the window and reopen. Something going on that needs fixing!

PerspicaciaTick · 18/01/2017 01:12

When I use Google Chrome on my laptop, then I get the weeny (i) symbol saying that mumsnet is not secure.

When I use Internet Explorer on my laptop, I don't get any symbol but the login page is http NOT https.

I have just noticed that I have the same issue with ebay. However Facebook, Amazon, Parentmail etc. are all still showing as secure.

prh47bridge · 18/01/2017 01:18

the part of the site where you enter your password and user info has been upgraded to https and is secure

That is grossly inadequate. All the websites I've set up use https for everything. Anyone visiting one of my websites on http gets bounced to https. Anyone visiting on https gets an hsts header which tells the browser it should only use https. It makes man in the middle attacks much harder. It also prevents intruders looking at browsing activities of users, which allows them to build up pictures of their behaviour and intentions, and potentially to strip away their anonymity.

You clearly have SSL certificates. I do not understand why you don't secure the whole site. It should not be difficult. In this day and age it is really an essential.

TheWoodlander · 18/01/2017 01:22

I'm pretty sure the log-in page should be secure, and was last time I checked (after Jeff's hacking).

I just checked again - it is not secure.

tobee · 18/01/2017 01:31

Reading this thread I realise I've noticed three odd thing (use an iPad mostly, btw)

  1. incredibly slow
  2. when I go to talk topics (not using app - safari) I find the topic I want and, as I go to touch it, the screen sort of jumps down a bit and I've pressed on a wrong topic iyswim
  3. when I was reading a thread a couple of days ago I could see the edges of a film/advert/trailer playing sort of underneath the thread text.
HelenaDove · 18/01/2017 02:02

Im getting the i too. Thanks for posting this thread Jamie. Thanks When i go into fb or Twitter it shows as secure with a green padlock symbol.

You were right Its showing i on here for me too. I just didnt notice.

Oh God we arent going to have to go through the same shit as 18 months ago are we.

SomethingLikeFlying · 18/01/2017 03:02

Ok something really weird is going on.
I changed my password just to be on the safe side. Logged out. Tried to log back in again using new password and it wouldn't accept it, but accepted my old one that I had just changed.
I tried this twice and on both occasions this happened.
Just to be clear, it was secure when on the password reset page as it had a padlock and https in the address bar.
WTF is going on??

SomethingLikeFlying · 18/01/2017 03:10

Is it best to just use the app now for browsing and posting on threads? I don't trust it on the website.

MsJamieFraser · 18/01/2017 05:59

I don't want to use my iPad/iMac as I use them for work ad seems those who are using iPads are getting pop up porn.

I brought a Chromebook to avoid all of this.

Also MN when I am using Chromebook I can getting multiple blank white screen pop ups.

OrraBoralis · 18/01/2017 06:48

I'm using Chrome on my desktop and it is showing as not secure here. No problem with the speed although as a PP mentioned when I am going to click on read 100 messages it kinda jumps and I end up clicking on Advanced Search.

MsJamieFraser · 18/01/2017 06:50

Can those who are getting the insecure website, state what device they are on?
