I recon there must be loads of famous people on here! Holly Willoughby - totally on here. Everyone from Loose Women - here! Are you a famous? If you are then NC and then post and NC back - I'd love to know!

Fizzy you may have outed yourself with your username - you might want to do something about that? Unless you aren't the Very Famous Person I think you are?

AlreadyGone · 18/01/2017 22:19

Fizzy is it possible to not attract press attention? That isn't a single attempt st victim blaming!! Just a genuine question. There are so many well known actors and musicians who just never feature in the gossip collumns. They seem to be those who don't feature on twitter or instagram, don't take their kids to film premieres, don't do reality TV, don't have their PA call the paps for an 'impromptu' holiday snap etc etc. Isn't it a case of give them nothing and eventually they'll go away?

But I guess if we're talking about those who make money from being a 'celebrity' alone then I guess that intrusion is the very essence of the job.

I think it depends if your 'in fashion' at any one time. Today's news tomorrow's chip paper and all that. We try to maintain privacy but sometimes it makes things worse because then they want to know why you've gone quiet.

AlreadyGone · 18/01/2017 22:30

At some point though, isn't there a decision to be made on whether the followers=clicks=column inches=downloads=£££ isn't worth selling your soul for?

Once there's a house paid for, a trust fund for the kids, investments for the future etc then someone in that position could just perform their art without the other shit?

Perhaps I'm being naive.

Fizzymoon1234 · 18/01/2017 22:38

It's just not possible. Well not in my case anyway. There has always been a keen public interest in my personal life.

AlreadyGone · 18/01/2017 22:40

Move to Norfolk, Fizzy. Retire. come off social media. The press can barely even be arsed to make it up the A11 to photograph the Queen, I'm sure you'll be fine out here. Grin

Fizzymoon1234 · 18/01/2017 22:44

Sounds like a plan Smile

autumnglow · 18/01/2017 22:45

I used to know a group of famous people and was told there are those who court the publicity and you can choose to be in the press warts and all or not .
I've met loads of celebs throughout my life and crossed paths with rockstars to tv presenters I went to a very famous rock stars daughter wedding and couldn't believe who I was mixing with, that said I'm a nobody and my paths have never crossed with my pin ups take that or the late GM.

FeralBeryl · 19/01/2017 00:37

See my true sympathies lie with someone like Fizzy who (it sounds like?) has had this intrusion flung upon her from a young age.
It's bad enough if it's something you actively wanted initially but didn't realise the levels people go to, but to be born into something you have no control over would be horrendous Flowers

AutumnalLeaves38 · 19/01/2017 02:26

The issue which I'm curious to know more about, from an insider's perspective, is the protocol for protecting your young kids from media intrusion. Especially overly persistent/ aggressive Paps.

Not those taking mutually beneficial, pre-arranged, 'spontaneously captured' (ahem!) tabloid shots. Or at fair game public events like a kids' film premiere red carpet. Or even just run-of-the-mill snappers, sometimes a bit annoying yet only doing their job and who adhere to rules.

I'm talking about the darker, borderline stalkers so desperate to get their Celeb Family shots for megabucks they lose all scruples. Especially, it seems, if the story's salacious and worth good copy.

Random strangers shouting your name/ clearly provoking or upsetting your parents/ long lensing your family from every direction...must be completely terrifying for kids Sad

Plus any member of the public shoving their flipping phone at you, any time they fancy making a quick quid. Worse in a way?

If fame's only ever been their experience from very early on, I guess they're less bothered, but how does it affect DC new to it all? Can well imagine sensitive, shy ones being really troubled at times.

And why does the pixellating certain kids' faces to protect their identity (sensible, IMO) get flouted, depending on different papers/ magazines/ online outlets? Wouldn't there be a blanket media ban from the same family, backed up by legal action?

I always (probably naively) assumed there was some sort of legal opt-in/ opt-out list circulated to agencies before printing pics of under 16s?

Can't imagine celebs are thrilled by those really cruel, unflattering Pap shots of themselves (e.g body shaming beach or "blimey, hasn't he let himself go?" type), much less unapproved snide ones of their DC?

So many questions! Sorry. But it all truly intrigues me.

On the subject of tactics to encourage/discourage the paparazzi, there are some things you can do. Madonna used to have a single tracksuit outfit that she'd wear to leave the house if she didn't want to be papped (presumably she had a wardrobe full of them) and the paparazzi got to know that she wasn't worth following for photos because photos of her wearing exactly the same thing again were so dull that they had no market value.

However that will only take you so far - if you're in the eye of the storm then they'll crowd you simply because they want a photo of you that day that they can overinterpret as pregnant/angry/exhausted/on drugs/evil/saintly.

RubyReins · 19/01/2017 21:26

@ChickenVindaloo2 Intriguing! JKR's sister is my colleague, ergo you are my colleague too...! :)

ChickenVindaloo2 · 19/01/2017 21:34

RubyReins · 19/01/2017 22:21

When I was a kid I thought it would be great to be famous. The small amount of recognition I've had for my work has made me realize that in today's media climate it would be absolutely soul destroying (to me, at least). I would spend all day Googling my name looking for horrible things people had said and agonize over them forever. I'd probably have to stop using the internet.

Butteredpars1ps · 20/01/2017 12:36

I was wondering that. Ilove is it worth it?

missmarplesknittingcoach · 21/01/2017 21:08

My partner is from a northern town with an interesting history regarding a monkey. We are both "famous".

IamNotDarling · 26/01/2017 09:34

Hmmm, I've just looked at a list of famous people from Hartlepool and I don't recognise any names!

HatontheCat · 26/01/2017 15:33

Usingmyredpen has to be Sheffield and Arctic Monkeys.
