Ana, I'm a lawyer. I just chose to get more work by publicity and it was never very hard - just push yourself on to TV news, write articles, give talks in UK and abroad but I would only known by people in my field. There will be just as good lawyers doing what I do totally silently except perhaps being on their firm's website, who sometimes aren't even on linkedin but do just as well.
I am currently sitting rather nicely on Barbuda on holiday entirely along so not exactly hunted by camermen, laughing as I type.
It;'s just been a good way to be paid for my marketing whereas other people have to pay for adverts. Instead I give a talk, write an article, write a book and get paid and that brings in clients so it's a very nice full paid circle in a sense. although I've 6 webinars to prepare for and then record not long after I am back which I am not going here. That will have to wait.
The economic/financial question of what people earn who are "famous" is fascinating. Some are famous on youtube with so many followers they make a lot of revenue. Others seem famous and people assume they are rich but they are just famous with not much money, not that money or fame for that matter make people particularly happy. It is the freedom from the telephone and doorbell this week which is nice, being free of someone wanting something from me and wanting to be with me almost every second of the day (which of course does not just apply to people in demand for work but any parent, male or female - it's not a special issue for peole who are fairly well known in their work).
If any mumsnetter wants to be "famous" it's not that hard to create that if you can find a niche and then you just keep plugging away at it on and on day after day like most success - mostly effort and very hard work.
