About "friend's" racist Facebook post

A friend of mine has form for posting anti Muslim crap on her Facebook feed. A few arguments about it. Really annoys me but we've know each other for years and years and offline the subject doesn't come up and we get on really well. I'm going to just unfollow her but we will still be "friends" if that makes sense.

Anyway she posted a picture of a bacon sandwich saying this shouldn't be allowed to be offensive, share if you agree.

AIBU or is this complete crap? I don't have a Muslim friend I could ask but surely no one is going to be offended by that any more than I would be of a picture of their halal dinner?? Sorry if I am wrong and if I have offended anyone I apologise. I genuinely want to know if it is offensive or if it's just one of those stupid Britain First posts that make up that muslims are offended by such and such and then post it everywhere.

LOL why are these people so stupid. Muslims dont find bacon sandwiches offensive they find them gross.
There is nothing worse than an idiot saying their idiot opinion because other idiots will spread it.

As others have said - this is your friend in real life and it is racist. If she is a long standing friend you might want to try and argue the point with her but I've unfriended people who post this shit because I feel its a complete cop out to just hide it from my sightline when this low grade 'acceptable' racism does influence people and make life more difficult for its targets.

I live in an area with a high Muslim population. The various corner shops are run by Muslims. And guess what? They sell bacon! And morning rolls, so that you can make bacon sandwiches Wink

You need to call your friend out on her racism - whether it is conscious or institutional - both on any of her posts in Facebook and when you see her in real life. If it's institutional, she needs to be educated. If she gets upset, then she's maybe not as "lovely" as you think Sad - and therefore not a big loss. Especially, as you say, given the potential influence on your dd.

It never happened. A simple Google will tell you that.

When I lived in Whitechapel, an area of London with a high Muslim population. Some (not all) of the small independent shops didn't sell pork products, but only because there was such a low demand for them from the people that lived nearby. They did however sell alcohol, which is also haram, but they sold enough of it to justify ordering it in.

This is what I mean, people see what they want to see.

Olympia, please point out to your BiL that there is nothing whatsoever preventing anyone from eating bacon sandwiches in what he describes as a Muslim area, not that there is any such thing anyway. And, just for the record, there is nothing to prevent him eating one in areas with a high Muslim population. Nor has there ever been a case of a butcher being prevented from selling pork if they want to do so.

There is way too much consideration given these days to political correctness etc. This results in posts exactly like this, discussing whether a picture of a bacon butty could be offensive. I mean really, come on!

It is always worth remembering that just because someone takes offence it doesn't mean they are right.

Any chance of common sense prevailing for a change?

This would be the same papers who routinely tell us the number of immigrants is much higher than it is, that the number of Moslems is much higher than it is, that 'Christmas' has been banned in favour of 'Winterval', benefits fraud puts the country on its knees (despite being lower than in any other area of public spending), that deified a series of celebrity paedophiles...

If you've been friends for years and she hasn't shown behaviour like this before, has she recently made some new (awful) friends and being influenced by them?
I would speak to her about it - see if you can make her realise how silly and nasty she is being by spreading this stuff. By defriending her on fb, you are just ignoring the problem and Islamophobia continues...

madparent1 nobody was objecting to a picture of a bacon sandwich that is the point. The 'friend' was reposting fake news implying that there were objections to it (the implication also being that Moslems objected).

The discussion is about the racist intent behind the post as plainly noone gives a shit about the picture itself

I actually feel sorry for these Britain First types because they believe all that crap they read and get really upset and feel a genuine sense of victimhood. I used to go onto BF's fb page and link to actual facts under their stories (like for example if they said that 60% of Britain is now Muslim or something daft I would link to an actual stat from the census office). They blocked me.

I just went NC with my father who, except for other really gobshity things he did and is, also joined all racist and anti-Muslim groups you could even think of and posted and reposted loads of shit from them. He probably never met a Muslim in his life - he doesn't live over here and where he lives is the total sticks, where every foreigner is automatically frowned upon and expected to be some runaway criminal anyway. Talking to him is a lesson in futility. He has his truth and nothing can deviate from it.
Muslims dream about raping Christian women and cutting Christian men's throats. If women in European countries don't want to have anything to do with them, they break their knees or kidnap them. Immigrants are like dirty dogs who want to destroy the European culture. All of them, no exceptions.
Putin is a good guy, Trump is a good guy and they both want to save our civilisation from the tree-hugging idiots who are willingly going like lambs to be slaughtered by the bad Muslims.
It would be almost funny it it wasn't so horrific. They love spreading hate.

I had a friend post something similar on FB. I private messaged her asking her to remove it as it was very offensive and rasict. She removed it and hasn't posted anything like that since.

I've got the same situation with a family member. Worst part is I'm married to a Muslim! I just unfollowed him as I don't want to see that on my newsfeed. Luckily I don't actually speak to this person and with his views I'm glad I don't, unfortunately with all that's being said news people have very jaded views and this is what these posts are about. If she's someone who you see regularly then maybe mention to her how offensive you find the posts.

I'm lucky in that all my friends and family are broadly on the same political wavelength as me (with the exception of my partner's parents who are raging Brexiter Tories, but are otherwise incredibly nice so I just button my lip)

I wouldn't really want anyone like this as a friend though. It's both offensive an crass thing to have done.
