Why will my 10 month old not fucking sleep!!! She's not slept more than an hour in 5 months and I'm losing my mind!!! She's treating bedtime like a nap and is up until midnight every.single.night. I'm so fucking frustrated. I've tried it all and no joy. Not a minute to myself ever.

Over the past 3 weeks she's zipping through milestones. She's started to crawl, pull herself up, wave, point out things. I know it's a big amount of things to start doing in a short space of time but still Confused

She's been asleep an woken twice in the past 1.45hr Sad it's going to be another looooooonnnnggggg night. Poop 😞

I sympathise OP. Have an almost 5 month old here who won't go more than an hour. And to top it off he's found his high pitched screaming voice during the day.

I hate teething. And bloody viral infections.

Here's to lots of strong coffee wine tomorrow Brew

Both of mine were like this! Got better after 12 months but they didn't sleep through properly til they were 2.
I did gradual retreat around 16 months. Just kept
Laying them down and shushing. Never left the room.
Controlled crying was way too harsh and cruel for me.
They are both good sleepers now. It will improve!!

cheekybean · 12/01/2017 23:11

Ive just had the same with my four month old. He was waking every 45 - 60 minutes. He was bf during the day and hungry baby ff at 10.30.

Since wednesday, i have expressed and bottle fed every four hours' with the 10.30 feed of formula. DS slept through last night for the first time in eight weeks.

He was hungry, when i breastfed him off the breast, he would get snoozy, he got distracted etc etc. He woul make one feed run into another and i got fed up of wasting the day on the settee. In the end i realised he was hungry

Snifftest · 12/01/2017 23:13

I have the same issue. I even turned to controlled crying. It didn't work and now there's nowhere left to go.

sleeplesshell · 12/01/2017 23:24

There are so many of us Shock oddly makes me feel better. You would wonder about evolution- I know babies wake often biologically but you can't help but wonder did any cave men just say to a baby right that's it enough with you out you go Wink

4-10 months were the pits for sleep if I recall then gradually started sleeping better. I cosleep and still breastfeed in the night at 17 months but usually only once now. Have you considered a sleepyhead? She's waking up because she wants you, and a sh is a useful substitute. Roughly doubled time in between wakeups. The gentle sleep book and the no cry sleep.solution are my go to books and I use tips from both. I also hired a gentle sleep consultant to.tell me what to do and I'm wondering if that should be your next port of call? Let me know if you'd like me to message you details. I'd really recommend her. My experience has been that you can do things to encourage longer gaps between wake ups and get a reasonable night's sleep without cc or night weaning.

OohNoDooEy · 13/01/2017 13:15

Unless she's really crying, I'd leave her to it. It is fine for her to be awake in her cot - you don't need to be there to watch her practising to crawl in a gro-bag!

It could be possible that you're over stimulating her, especially with bum patting etc - that's usually for babies under 6 months.

I'd probably do the disappearing chair/gradual withdrawal if I were you.

Lunalovepud · 13/01/2017 21:23

I am with you!

Only my LO is 18 months old and still wakes up at least twice per night. We have tried EVERYTHING. Left to cry it out, he will have a massive tantrum, thrash around and bang his head against the cot / walls / whatever for HOURS and then will vomit everywhere.

I spend a lot of his wake up time cuddling him and trying to persuade myself that 5 hours sleep is sufficient for an adult and that I should value this precious time together as he will soon be too old etc, which is clearly nonsense! I have though, become amazingly good at dozing on a dining chair with no arms without dropping him / falling off so new life skills and all! Wink

I am expecting again and am hoping that the next one will be a better sleeper... Fingers crossed!

EsmesBees · 13/01/2017 21:46

Lots of sympathy OP. I honestly believe that some babies are just 'better' at falling and staying asleep than others. I was one, and even now at my grand old age it takes me 20 mins or so to drop off and I wake up lots in the night. So it's probably nothing you've done, and just how she is.

sleeplesshell · 13/01/2017 22:08

Ok night 4 --- she's been ASLEEP since 7:15 and it's now 10pm ShockShockShock

I tried the multi sensory room advise further down. Lavender spray on her mattress, constellation light thing, fed her there and put her in her cot and not a peep since 😳

I did also give her some nurofen as I think her teeth are at her. I'll post how long she went in the morning.

Luna 5 hours would do for me! Tho you need to get yourself a Lazy Boy instead of that dining chair, it doesn't sound too comfy!

Bettyspants · 13/01/2017 22:12

Same thing with my co sleepers! Bit of a phase for middle child, it got better. I briefly tried cc and found it to be incredibly distressing and against all my instincts. I don't know how people can do more than a minute. The moving chair method (or you moving out of the bed) may be beneficial or even saying no to nighttime feeds and having a cuddle instead. Research on stress responses during cc also put me right off

Anatidae · 13/01/2017 22:15

Cc didn't work for us. It made things worse I think (sigh) as he was so afraid of being left.

Ds is 15 months and has always been a shit sleeper. We've had the sleep folks from the hospital out and they couldn't help either,

Anyway, what did help a bit was this:

Daytime naps: done in a large playpen downstairs, so I can settle him the sneak off (yes I know you're not supposed to sneak off, nothing else works.)

Nighttime: feed, bath, teeth then feed/cuddle to sleep. Dh does first wake ups until midnight. They will howl but it's not like they're alone - someone is cuddling them (it's just not someone with boobs.) then feed when I go to bed. Dh then sleeps with him in the spare room.

Id also get more protein and fat in that last meal - butter in the porridge or similar.

It sucks. I've not slept for over a year now

fuxxake · 13/01/2017 22:18

Yay OP! Hope it lasts all night. Get yourself some sleep quick!

Mine teething too and threw up after her feed so slow going down but also not a peep from her since. I, however, am not taking my own advice re sleep, I am on the wine which I shall no doubt regret in the morning or sooner if/when she wakes WineGrin

StorminaBcup · 13/01/2017 22:18

Sleeplesshell that's brilliant. If nothing else it's a night off. Really hope it's the sensory routine and not the nurofen, it's my last hope of sleep!

Luna a dining room chair?! That's a skill!

Bettyspants · 13/01/2017 22:20

Anatidi completly agree , I'd rather a child cry whilst I'm cuddling them to sleepthan cry and be left to sleep. Fair enough it may well work for some but it would be a method I would try again. I did find that my ds would wake up and be distraught that I'd left him so would repeat the process until he ended up co sleeping as well . I got a bigger bed.

Lunalovepud · 13/01/2017 22:26

fuxxake sometimes it's even 5 CONSECUTIVE HOURS! I swear that the fact that happens a couple of times a month has prevented me from going completely batshit mental. Wink

I'm currently investigating lazy boys. Grin

AuditAngel · 13/01/2017 22:28

DS (12) was a rubbish sleeper. I would get to the stage of being unable to sleep. He still finds it hard to settle down, but, approaching the teenage years means he likes his bed in the mornings.

You have my sympathies.

DD2 still co-sleeps, she's 6

Lunalovepud · 13/01/2017 22:29

storm I know, right? And it's a rickety Ikea fold up one at that! I might do a YouTube tutorial. Wink

StorminaBcup · 13/01/2017 22:31

Luna that's nuts! I'll set up a crowd-funding page for Luna'sLazeeBoy Grin
