To say no to courier.

Amazon courier just asked to use the loo. I was alone in the house with a baby. I said no and immediately dropped a note to Amazon to say I wasn't impressed that it made me feel uncomfortable.

I feel a bit bad now...remind me that I did the right thing please?!

I see there are a few with the same line of thinking as the op on here. Good thing they are in the minority.

BertrandRussell · 08/01/2017 20:42

Don't worry, Aeroflot- I was just speculating about the OP's next move........

Littledrummergirl · 08/01/2017 20:44

When dh was a courier and his employer was messing with his route/insisting they used the route programmed by the computer, he would often have his half hour lunch break timed for the middle of nowhere.

Despite employment law saying employees should have access to toilet facilities, running water/handwashing facilities, first aid equipment etc these weren't considered important.
No risk assessments were carried out to ensure routes programmed by the handset were suitable for vans and had sufficient toilet facilities for drivers to use.

I am surprised the unions haven't challenged these breaches which seem to be industry wide.

I would have let the poor man use my toilet.

GinIsIn · 08/01/2017 20:52

So you complained about him, then hoped your complaint would be disregarded but emailed again to ask, which would glad up the fact you'd complained in the first place, then you raised queries with the neighbour and suggested they contact Amazon about the guy as well?! All because the man needed to pee? Jesus - you REALLY don't want him to keep his job, do you?! Hmm

MyNewUserNameIsSecret · 08/01/2017 20:53

I don't for one second think that the courier would loose his job because of politely asking if he could use someone's toilet. That's ridiculous. It makes for a more entertaining thread but it's a bit of a stretch.

Still don't let that get in the way of the faux outrage.

hibouhibou · 08/01/2017 20:57

I'm sure he was fine. Men can easily go behind a bush. You were right not to let him in, don't let other posters make you feel bad.

Mrskeats · 08/01/2017 21:11

She should feel bad. She may have deprived someone of their livelihood.
What part of that is difficult to understand hibou???

Mrskeats · 08/01/2017 21:12

He may loose his job because of a complaint though.
Jeez.

Mrskeats · 08/01/2017 21:12

*lose

ilovesooty · 08/01/2017 21:17

And still we have the naive and unworldly posters who think he's not at risk of losing his job. What fucking planet do some of you live on?

hibouhibou · 08/01/2017 21:18

MrsKeats

The courier has done nothing wrong andI doubt that Amazon would take the complaint seriously. People are over reacting.

myfavouritecolourispurple · 08/01/2017 21:20

Not RTFT but I'm not keen on this either. Apart from anything else, I don't like a stranger in my house when I've not been able to tidy up! Especially the bathroom.

I don't like businesses (cafes and the like) being precious about people using their toilets but a private home feels different.

I've never refused even though I don't like it but it does annoy me when they then leave the flippin seat up!

I would not have complained to Amazon though - as someone said, they are not a model employer.

myfavouritecolourispurple · 08/01/2017 21:21

This is Amazon we are talking about. In other circumstances you'd be right. I think Amazon are capable of most things related to their staff.

GinIsIn · 08/01/2017 21:21

hibou you don't even have to google it - PPs have already posted the links to articles on Amazon drivers' working conditions. You literally just have to click to see that actually people really aren't overreacting.... Hmm

Aeroflotgirl · 08/01/2017 21:21

Oh right Bertrand. 😃😁

Mrskeats · 08/01/2017 21:46

Amazon is notorious for treating its employees in an atrocious manner.
Even without that I just don't get the complaining. At all.

KeepingitReal2 · 08/01/2017 21:53

Would never let a essentially a stranger into the house to use the loo sorry
I live in Brum too many chancers and robberies round here

JensenAcklesUndercrackers · 08/01/2017 22:06

Having been victim to an assault after letting a delivery bloke in to use the loo, I would say YADNBU to have denied his request.
However, I do think YABVU to have made a complaint. Poor bloke was gracious enough to just say ok and walk away but you straight away sent an email to his employers?? I'm afraid that says more about you.

No need to be so unpleasant. I'd could ask the same of you? I don't think there is a chance he could be sacked because of it. He 'politely' asked to use the toilet.

1horatio · 08/01/2017 22:28

my

Not because of the politely asking. But because of the complaint.

MyNewUserNameIsSecret · 08/01/2017 22:35

1Horstio The OPs complaint was that he asked to use the toilet but that he was polite in doing so and when he was refused. i can't believe someone would get sacked for that.

1horatio · 08/01/2017 22:36

I do.

ilovesooty · 08/01/2017 22:38

You can't believe it?
You're wrong.

MyNewUserNameIsSecret · 08/01/2017 22:40

And I think you are wrong. But well done on replying without the insults.

Earlgreywithmilk · 08/01/2017 22:45

I would've said yes and then gone and scrubbed my toilet afterwards whilst seething at his cheek! I'm just too nice Halo
