To think This Morning was wrong to shame this woman?

Sorry, but what business does he have to decide what someone spends their benefits on? So what if she bought a bottle of Prosecco?

He says he doesn't care about the Prosecco but it's so obvious that he does. This is a man worth £2million sitting in his ivory tower and shaming a woman for buying a £4.99 bottle of Prosecco.

Is this what this country has become? A country where we deny people any pleasure or fun because they are on benefits?

gets popcorn and hard hat for OP

Errrrr he is a journalist. If you actually watch the This Morning interview it was very balanced.

It wasn't just about the Proseco --but that would get in the way of your outrage wouldn't it-

Nell51 · 07/01/2017 13:13

I saw the interview on the show. He didn't care that she spent the money on prosecco but it was the manner in which she said thanks to the tax payer that riled him.

EggnogChai · 07/01/2017 13:14

Of course she can spend her xmas bonus on processo but 'cheers to the taxpayer' is an inflammatory comment that's a bit out of order wouldn't you say?

MrsMattBomer · 07/01/2017 13:15

PigletWasPoohsFriend

In what universe is Phillip Schofield a journalist? He used to be on CBBC presenting with a bloody Gopher puppet! He's hardly Jeremy Paxman, is he?

£2800 on Christmas gifts??? Ffs

MrsMattBomer · 07/01/2017 13:16

I saw the post and thought it seemed genuinely like she was thanking people.

I know if I had to rely on benefits I'd be thankful to the taxpayers for paying towards that system.

She's the twat

CannotEvenDeal · 07/01/2017 13:17

YABU even Grin

WorraLiberty · 07/01/2017 13:17

I think it's pretty clear that the woman's dickish comment "‘So cheers to the taxpayer for my Christmas gift’", was what got his back up.

You can't see that, OP?

TitaniasCloset · 07/01/2017 13:18

This is all to promote her books. Whatever they are about. I'm sure she is glad of the publicity..

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/01/2017 13:19

She spent £2,800 on her kids Christmas presents because she wants them to have the same Christmas as when they were rich?

How's that teaching her children to behave responsibly?

She's the twat.

Allthebestnamesareused · 07/01/2017 13:20

This woman is apparently a publicity seeker. She has been on one of those other benefit shows and so on and is really not very pleasant. I am afraid I can't feel sorry for her!

amispartacus · 07/01/2017 13:21

I think that women is going to be in financial trouble - she's used credit cards and loans to pay for Christmas and is hoping her book pays for it.

Those bills don't go away.

SparklyLeprechaun · 07/01/2017 13:21

Yabu, he did nothing wrong, and it clearly wasn't about the prosecco, it was about a very crass comment she made.

CaraAspen · 07/01/2017 13:22

No he isn't, OP. His view would be similar to any other person who heard someone say the "cheers "thing. If she had said "Thanks to...", that might have had a different tone.

AgentCooper · 07/01/2017 13:22

Hmm. Whatever the ethics of buying prosecco with benefits, when I was unemployed a few months ago I was really, really struck by how much daytime TV has turned into bear - baiting. This Morning, Loose Women, it's like the Mail brought to life, stoking hatred.

CannotEvenDeal · 07/01/2017 13:23

I saw the post and thought it seemed genuinely like she was thanking people.

Somehow I don't think that when she was a teacher she cracked open a bottle to thank her headteacher/governing body/local authority.

SouthWestmom · 07/01/2017 13:24

He sounds like a twat over egging a point tbh.and wtf people in benefits don't know they get £10 at Christmas? It's automatic, you dont go cap in hand to the benefits office and ask nicely for it!

He knows fuck all from the sound of it.

Astro55 · 07/01/2017 13:25

But Phillip hit back: “It doesn’t sound like that. It sounds like ‘Cheers! Here’s what I bought with your money

It's the attitude - how many working people got a taxpayer bonus??

amispartacus · 07/01/2017 13:25

Can't pay, we'll take it away
On benefits......
Jeremy Kyle

It's awful. We mock the Victorians for their freak shows and the Romans for what happened in the Collisseum but we still do it now. Humiliation in the name of public entertainment.

CondensedMilkSarnies · 07/01/2017 13:26

She doesn't come across well tbh . She keeps saying she's proud to be in benefits , does she mean grateful?

She also seems to have a funny eyebrow - which annoyed me Grin

SheldonCRules · 07/01/2017 13:26

Benefits should provide the bare minimum of food, shelter and heat. The very fact they fund so many luxuries shows they have become a joke at the expense of tax payers.

Servicesupportforall · 07/01/2017 13:27

I don't think either of them came out of it well. Davina looked embarrassed
